Why does no one really like the 20" AR15s? I think they look pretty great, granted I have no experience with them. It seems like there's a lot of hate on them.
>>
>>29110389
Have you served?

No?

Then buy a normal rifle and don't try to be something you are not and will never be. Unless you like getting your fucking ass kicked at the range

Go copy and paste your cancer elsewhere, fag.
>>
>>29110389
Because if you can carry 20 inches they might as well be pushing .308.
>>
There's a cult following. 5.56 seriously shines out of a 20"er, but just about no one makes them because everyone is obsessed with 14.5 and 16" REMEMBER THE BASICS OF CQC.
>>
>>29110389
I really don't see the need for it. The improvement is marginal from a 16 inch barrel

What hate?

>20" AR? Discuss Rifle vs Carbine length

There's really not that much of a difference. A 5.56 bullet is just as effective from either a 20 or 16 inch. You're doing it all wrong if you're getting a 16 inch carbine length instead of a midlength.

Where?

I had an M16A4 clone I built off of BCM parts that I later turned into a M16A5 clone.
Then I bought an 18" SS BCM upper for a Mk.12 inspired build to swap out with the 20".
Eventually I just pieced it off and sold everything except the lower because it didn't do anything my 14.5" or 16" midlengths didn't do except be heavier, longer, and just generally more unwieldy.

I might eventually buy a Colt A4 or FNH A4 just to leave bone stock for a "just because" M16A4 clone, but to be honest I can't see any practical use or reasoning for me wanting another 18 or 20" AR. There's just nothing that they do that a 16" or even shorter can't do just as well from my experience.
>>
>>29111715
>M16A5
Wait what
>>
>>29111801
It was a proposed A4 upgrade/improvement program by VLTOR to replace the A2 stock, rifle length receiver extension, and buffer with a proprietary carbine receiver extension and buffer.

It never went anywhere since the USMC was poor and just resisting the inevitability of adopting the M4 as standard.

It was really the coolest concept/final evolution for the M16, but again, M4>M16.
>>
>>29112042
Sounds pretty cool, does VLTOR still sell the stock they were going to use?
>>
>>29112078
you're looking for the h6 buffer kit
damage industries makes them but they're out of stock right now

I bought my AR used for a decent price, came with some nice furniture, and it has a 20" barrel. It's just too long. Maybe it's because I'm used to M4s with a 14.5" barrel, but I'm not a huge fan. Don't get me wrong, it's a great rifle and accurate as fuck. But it's really front heavy. I'm in the process of building my next one, gonna throw a 16 inch barrel on there, without a muzzle brake.

Uh no, rifle is fine.

Gee I wonder why?

Same guy. I'm about to buy a Mosin from Southern Ohio Gun. I just want it as a piece of history, ya know?

I've got an A1-pattern with a 20" 1:9 barrel and I like it best. I don't see any need for a shorter barrel, ARs are already small and light.
>>
>>29111654
18 inch rifle length is a smoother rifle. To get that kind of recoil in a 16 inch you would need to use intermediate length which is hard to find.

I have zero intention of clearing a room with a rifle ever. In a realistic home defense scenario if a two inch barrel difference matters you've taken the wrong approach.

Mah nigga, I had an A1 knock off but turned it into an A4.. thing. 20" 1:9 as well.

>>29110389
20" Rifles are sexy and fun, and rifle length sight radius and gas/buffer systems are GOAT.
>>
5 and half inches, or 4 and a half inches due to my longer md, is significant.
It handles better, for me. I willing to lose that bit of velocity. Since this is not my service rifle, the only realistic scenario Id use this rifle is inside my house, and 4.5 inches makes a difference there
>>
>>29113845
Some of us shoot for sport, rifle length sight radius is awesome for high power style shooting.

>And thus god said, this is the dissipator, and it was so.
>>
>>29110389
Well obviously you're just using it for outdoor target practice, so the slightly (5-8%) higher muzzle velocity and reduced bullet drop might make a tiny difference at very long ranges.

I mean, we're not talking practical defense, right?

If you want a short barrel AR-15 for home defense get it into another caliber other than 5.56.

My home defense and truck gun is a .300 blackout pistol AR. Might get a ATF stamp so I can have a SBR.
>>
>>29113984
>that abomination
Oh FUCK no!
>>
I prefer 20" ARs myself. A little extra velocity, but otherwise you don't gain a ton honestly. I just like the way they look and feel with a 20" barrel.
>>
>>29110770

This.

Its all preference but IMHO a 16" AR is accurate and at the range the extra velocity a 20" barrel will make a difference you might as well be using a heavier .308 round.
