It's actually due to a few lemons they had with bad extractors (QC issues). It has been fixed for a long time.
W. German Sigs are carbon steel though and while someone will post the memes with the rusted Sig mainspring but any gun will rust if abused enough. See pic related. Carbon steel rusts if you look at it wrong.
It's real but overblown. I would carefully inspect any gun of theirs before purchasing.

One thing to note with exeter sigs, you need to absolutely grease the rails. The slides are a lot tougher than the frame rails when you compare it to the slides of the german sigs.

What Sig really needs to do with the E2 grips is introduce them in 3 sizes. I love the E2 grips, they feel way better than the VP9, however I couldn't use them very well because they are way too small around the thumb notch. If Sig introduce a Large version I would throw away all of my CZs and replace them with Sigs.
