I picked up an Eddystone M1917 Enfield for $550. Barrel is pitted but the rifling is strong, and there aren't any cracks on the receiver ring. Probably going to get a Criterion barrel if the current one doesn't shoot well.

How'd I do? Pic related is her.

What the fuck, france.
It's hard to keep a straight face thinking that french authorities fear criminals doing bayonet charges with milsurp rifles.

You can still own them in their original calibers, they just require a more stringent license, or so I've heard. They did just remove 8mm Lebel off of the "military caliber" list. So they're easier to own now.

>>28737505
Even if it shoots badly with the original barrel (which it won't) putting on an aftermarket barrel will kill the value of the gun.

38 carbine. mismatched bolt, but still has the flower.

I won't mess the metal up, but the stock is free game. Numrich didn't even do a good job inletting, shit was chainsaw level precise inside.

Intact mums aren't exactly rare by any means (though less common on carbines) so I hope you didn't buy it because of that and hope you got it for cheap.

The stock finger grooves weren't cut deep or wide enough either.

"Haven't seen one in a while"

It feels like enthusiasm for milsurp was steadily dying down for several years now. I think it's mostly because the price multiplied since the last few years.

I remember having MOIST NUGGET LOVE and SKS threads back in the 2000's because they were so fucking cheap (same with other milsurp rifles). Now it seems like milsurp is only bought and appreciated by history buffs and hipsters; it's not the common man's option anymore (they will now just buy an AR, new production bolt rifles, etc.)

Notice how half of posters in Milsurp threads are now actual milsurp collectors and history enthusiasts; it's not like the old days when everyone in /k/ joined and posted their milsurp and noobs asked about how to buy a Lee Enfield or SKS, et cetera.

Just sayin man. OP's statement just reminded me of the current state of firearms.

That's because Obama cracked down on American milsurp in August 2013. And the UN has been trying to convince countries with milsurp to destroy them so they can get aid.

He signed an executive order banning milsurp firearms from the U.S. that were given through lend-lease from coming back. Before that, there were only 1 or 2 ways for them to be exported back to us, and now there are none.

Those M1 Garand and M1 Carbines given to the South Koreans during the Korean War are never coming back.

Military surplus.

Used by the army, so it fits the definition.

Not to mention that it's irrelevant if it saw combat or not.

>Those M1 Garand and M1 Carbines given to the South Koreans during the Korean War are never coming back.
That is 100% incorrect.

Guns given to other countries under lend-lease is the property of the US Army. Those guns are taken back by the US Army and are given to the CMP. The guns you are referring to are the ones that the US Government gave to them, but not under lend lease. Those cannot be imported back to the US, but there are some that can and those are the ones that were bought from the US Government. Those have all but been imported.

It doesn't matter anyways. The Korean used and abused those M1s. They're all trash.

Traded an ishapore a2 for it. so technically cost me 250. I definitely got the worst deal in the trade, but i had two a2s so i didn't mind too much.

I need to stop taking pity on abused milsurps. pic related in my next project, got a giant slab of europoor beech that i just need to carve into the proper shape and do my damnedest to color match the piss poor stain the italians put on it.

Yes, you do. For that Carcano it would be best to try to make a foreend and splice it onto the original stock.

I have no idea on Canadian prices.
An actual original Mle 49-56 in 7.62NATO is very rare, but there is a couple known in the US that were imported. Most are just aftermarket conversions of 7.5 to .308 that are shitty. Century hacked up a lot of them.

SKS are still cheap in NZ. Comparatively. You could get a secondhand ruger 10/22, or a neverused norinco SKS. Which would you get? I know my answer. Norinco may be Chinese cheapshit, but its still an SKS, so its still reliable.
