Fucker had it coming.
Don't fly shit like that on someone's private property.

These stupid little pricks with drones are annoying as hell.
>>
>>28726636
Problem might not be the shootdownnon its own but afaik most states have laws wich forbids people to shoot the weapon around in town area (if your life isnt obviously in danger amd similar situations).

I am from austria so correct me if i am wrong but that could be a problem, right?
After all you shoot a bullet wich wont stop magically after hitting the drone and may fall on someones head.....
>>
>>28726847
Use a shotgun loaded with rock salt and an old pillow for a suppressor.
>>
>>28726856
Shooting a pellet gun in the air can still qualify as shooting a gun in the air. Changing the load on a shotgun probably won't matter. You're still firing a gun

Yes, I believe the guy was busted for discharging a firearm within city limits but also because it’s illegal to shoot at any aircraft, of which drones qualify as.

Dunno what the solution to this is, as I see that even Cabela’s is now selling drones with video cameras, but people have a right not to be spied upon while on their own property.

you'd lose your drone in the process

OR

you could tie a long rope to your own drone, with a weight at the bottom and fly above the invader, then tangle its rotors with the rope and fuck it up

reminds me of the battle kites we had when I was a kid, you tie a razor to a long string and try to cut the other kite to pieces with it

>>
>>28727413
Other problem is a weighted rope is a damn dangerous thing to fly in the air, if it lands on someone's head with the weight you are fucked.

A better idea would be someone rigging it up to drop a sheet on the drone.

if the drone/camera is in public space then you're entitled to take pictures of whatever you want provided it isn't for commercial use. state by state laws on peeping tom shit vary so you *may* be subject to that if they can prove you're using the drone specifically to gain a view you otherwise wouldn't have legally (ie to creep on girls).

if the drone is in private space without permission, yeah shoot away.

It depends on the hit. What if you glued a piece of balsawood on the bottom of your drone- pointing downwards, like the keel of a sailboat? That would be enough to fuck up the other drone's rotors, while not being too heavy for your drone or presenting a danger if it fell off.

How can Joe Schmoe the redneck who lives 8 doors down from you figure out it was you who jammed the airwaves to make his drone come crashing down?

From his perspective, he was just flying over your neighbors house, and saw his drone drop out of the sky.

I feel you man. There are far too many cringe worthy gun owners.

To really embody what a gun means, you must treat your weapon with a spiritual reverence. Because it represents the ideal of a man, and the power to defend your country, and loved ones.

Hell, look at the picture they took of it when it was in the sky (note: way the fuck up there), it isn't even oriented in a way that would be looking at them or their property.

The logic of "if it stops moving at any point I can shoot it" is childish, sometimes people just want to get a view of the surrounding area, and motion adversely affects video.

>Visible from public property = fair game.

Can’t provide a cite and ain’t going to look it up, but the courts have ruled that a cameraman or photographer can’t film or photograph a “common citizen” without their permission, unless it can be justified as a “newsworthy event” (i.e. someone arrested for murder doing a perp walk).

If it’s not a newsworthy event, the subject of the film or photo must be a “celebrity or well know personage for which there is public interest”, which is how the paparazzi can legally film someone like Britney Spears in her backyard, but not you or me.

Even on public property, a common citizen can only be filmed or photographed if they are not the specific subject of the shot, such as one person among a bunch of people standing around watching a parade on a public street.

Drone Shooter Dude could have legally sued Peeping Drone Guy and won, had he somehow been able to know where the guy was and called the cops on him, etc.

>I'd sooner get my shotgun out and blast it out of the sky in one shot then stand in my backyard lobbing a whole bag of peas at a flying robot.
And you're the kind of person that makes gun ownership a continued struggle in the civilized world. If you crash it with peas or paint, you have complete deniability. If you shoot it, you're gonna end up like the guy in the OP and get on the news and in "trouble" for it.

Or you could build a drone hunter drone and deploy it to defend your airspace. Can't be that hard to attach something to a drone that could be trigger to sabotage other drones. Maybe even just a net it can release on command.
>>
>>28732113
If you look at the court case and the decision, you'll see that using birdshot to take out a drone and getting away with it now has precedent.

In 1946 the Supreme Court acknowledged that the air had become a “public highway,” but a landowner still had dominion over “at least as much of the space above the ground as he can occupy or use in connection with the land.” In that case the court held that a plane flying just 83 feet in the air—the commotion was literally scaring the plaintiff’s chickens to death—represented an invasion of property. The justices declined to precisely define the height at which ownership rights end. Today, the federal government considers the area above 500 feet to be navigable airspace in uncongested areas. While the Supreme Court hasn’t explicitly accepted that as the upper limit of property ownership, it’s a useful guideline in trespass cases. Therefore, unless you own some very tall buildings, your private airspace probably ends somewhere between 80 and 500 feet above the ground.
>>

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>>
>>28733791
And there's no way that home owner was hitting a drone at 500ft with buckshot. Most likely the drone was within his airspace and he defended his right to privacy and not having his home or daughter recorded without permission.
>>
>>28733886
Sure, if it's defined at 500.
But it could be 80.
>>
>>28733791
Dronefag was violating at least one law by having his drone hover over the house. Drones are not allowed to hover above buildings. Dronefag broke the law and invaded someone's privacy. If his drone was so expensive he shouldnt of been hovering over private property. In the report it says he hovered above the home then left and returned so it was not an accident he explicitly piloted his drone back to the home.
>>
>>28733980
That's a safety guideline, not a law.
>>
>>28733895
It depends on the area. In most places, it's 500 feet. If you want to know more, it's here:

No but the way its described it sounds like he's just hovering and its admitted he had a camera on it so he had to at least record a little bit of the home plus the daughters photo shows it hovering. If drone guy was just flying by or something then yeah home owner fucked up. But if the home owner is to be believed and it came back to hover then that's what he had to be doing. Why else would drone guy come back over the home?
