Ok /k/ what type of gun should I get for my first gun?
>never shot guns before
Please help
>>
>>28723653
Ruger 10/22
>>
10/22 or a marlin 60
something in 22lr.
or 9mm handgun if you want. my first gun that I actually shot was a 92fs.
>>
>>28723660
Il do some research thanks
>>
>>28723670
Looking for a pistol mainly for defending myself
>>
>>28723653
If you are into semi auto and or tactical shooting get a ruger 10/22.

If you are into long range shooting and are into granpa guns get a marlin xt22 tube mag.

If you want anything bigget it depends on where you live
>>
get one of those $500 AR-15s
>>
>>28723690
Home defence or concealed carry?
>>
Honestly I thought you guys would have laughed at me for not knowing what to get
>>
>>28723727
Both
I'm looking for something 100$-250$
>>
>>28723653
9mm is always a good choice. .380 is a great too. everything else about the weapon is mostly going to be on personal taste.
>>
>>28723762
Well what do you recommend
>>
>>28723750
p64, or anything else chambered in makarov.
p64's not that fun to shoot, because the recoil is pretty fucking snappy, but it's a great carry gun, and it's in your price range. and it's surely one of the highest quality guns in your price range.
>inb4 hipoint
hipoints are fucking garbage for cc.
>>
>>28723750
...not a pistol. At least not for concealed carry.

Hi-point. Id get the .45 seeing as how they only use single stack magazines anyway. Everyone else is gonna say 9mm, but thats not alot of 9mm. You need at least 12 rounds, imo, which isnt worth much.

But, like im sure everyone else will tell you, save up for something in the $400-$500 range.
>>
>>28723809
>You need at least 12 rounds, imo
for what reason do you need 12 rounds? why did you come up with a completely arbitrary number? why not 11 or 13?
>>
>>28723660
This, 22 is great for starting
First gun I used was a Remington Model 597
highly suggest that as well, cheaper than the Ruger 10/22 if price comes more down to your first gun
>>
>>28723750
Ah a real challenge then.

Honestly at that price range it is slim pickings. Not only that but you will NEED to take some classes and spend at least 100$ on ammo to practice with before you should carry, as every gun owner should.

It seems stupid but if you've never shot a gun there is no way you can rely on it to protect yourself. You can rely on a gun to escalate conflicts no matter what but you need to know what you're doing for anything else.

Tldr;

> go to gunshop and ask for cheapest handgun they have... Or... Go to gun store order a walther ppq or glock 19 and take a cc class and make at least five range trips. Total cost 1000$.
>>
>>28723821
Honestly, just off the top of my head.
I thought you might run across more than one bad guy, and op is likely to miss his fair share, especially if he gets a hi-point for concealed carry-god awful choice op, dont- and the single stack 9mm hipoint mag is only good for, what, 8 rds? Fuck that, glock mags hold more than double that, which is a major selling point for 9mm. Ammo capacity.

I dont know, nothing in particular, just a million thoughts that passed through my mind, and arrived at 12.

I said my opinion wasnt worth much, what do you want from me?
>>
Thanks every one I will take everything into consideration thanks /k/ a magical place.
>>
>>28723875
>I dont know, nothing in particular, just a million thoughts that passed through my mind, and arrived at 12.
yes, that's why I called it an arbitrary number.
>>
>>28723708
This is the answer.

Everyone will say a 10/22, sks, or mosin. Mosin is no longer a good deal. SKS is overpriced too and quite mediocre. 10/22 is underwhelming, but gets better with more and more upgrades.

I bought my first 2 weeks ago. Got a PX4 and took it to the range today. its lovely.
>>
>>28723861
Thanks anon
>>
>>28723653
cheap milsurp
12 gauge
22 if you can find ammo
>>
I went to a range, tried out a bunch of handguns and after lurking /k/ for a while, decided on a Steyr M9-A1 and building my own AR.

Fuck the shallow end.

Get on the diving board.
>>
>>28723905
No problemo. I hope you never need it and have lots fun!
>>
I might just get a 10/22 but I really want a pistol
>>
>>28723893
>Mosin is no longer a good deal.
$150-200 is still a great deal for what you're getting.
>SKS is overpriced too and quite mediocre
in the US, yeah, you're correct. sks is pretty much canuck only now.
>10/22 is underwhelming
it's a plinking gun. what do you expect from it?
>>

It's not the "end-all-be-all" of gun ownership. It's fine for kids that are 12, but if someone's buying their own gun, they might as well get a REAL gun for $100 more -- and, depending on where he lives, he'll have a much easier time finding non-gouge pricing on .223 than .22
>>
>>28723950
Mosin is a no go.
Russia is using its ×54r at the moment, and its price is inflated all to hell.

If anything the sks is the most bang for your buck, but its rapidly blurring that line, its not worth $400.

10/22 is where its at for a first gun.
>>
.22 being a good starter caliber is a meme. .22 is for people who just want a beefier air rifle. It gets boring SO FAST.
>>
>>28723971
.22 isn't a toy.

Where i live it's more popular than crossbows for
Poaching.

What fun should I get?
I'd like to get a semi auto under $700.
I've only shot my long gone R8 and AR before.
It will be for range time and nightstand security.
>>
>>28723861
This anon right here. If you don't know what you're doing, a gun is a lot more likely to get you into more (presumably, you don't go looking do ya?) trouble than it's going to get you out of. Being competent takes time, and practice practice practice.
>>
>>28723979
>its price is inflated all to hell.
40 cpr isn't that bad. It's more than it was a few months ago, but it's still pretty fucking cheap compared to most other rifle cartridges.
>>
>>28724004
Only because it's quiet and can still kill critters. If the poachers weren't worrying about getting caught, they'd be using a real rifle too.
>>
>>28724031
It's still a 70% increase in cost.

Was gonna buy an svt (canada) until i asked the guy what a crate of ammo would run me.
>>
>>28724031
Oh, no, i was talking about the nugget.
There is another thread about the ammo supply getting thin though. Check it out.
>>
>>28723660
This. Its an inexpensive gun and fairly cheep ammo online too
>>
>>28723932
>build your own AR
Ive been thinking of doing this, But I buy mostly for a store of value and for fun on range days. If I build my own will it still be worth anything or just a fun?
>>
>>28724065
$150-200 isn't bad for a rifle that shoots a round capable of killing just about anything with a pulse.
>>
>>28724057
Well of course they would.

Im not sayin a higher caliber round wouldn't give better range and effectiveness but too many people are dismisive of .22 as a weapon and tool.

.22 can and will kill. And I'm sure it goes without saying that shot placement is more important than caliber no matter the gap.
>>
>>28724088
It will be worth as much as you put in. If you just want a plain ar buy a prebuilt. However, if you want something more customized to your liking build your own. If you want it, save up for it. Dont sacrifice your ideal build for something cheap now.
>>
>>28724101
You can get a modern bolt action that fires modern rounds for $150-$200 that will also kill anything with a pulse.
>>
>>28724166
>You can get a modern bolt action that fires modern rounds for $150-$200
really? what the fuck modern gun are you getting for that cheap?
>>
Look guys I just want a rifle or pistol for the apartment incase some dindu's tries to break in
>>
>>28724187
haven't you already gotten your answer?
>>
>>28724178
Alright, $280 for a savage axis. Brand new.
>>
>>28724200
Yeah but people are arguing I just want a gun people can agree on
>>
>>28724216
really? where?
>>
>>28724187
>>28724228
Mossberg maverick 88.
12 gauge 6 round pump shotgun. $180.
>>
I'm leaning towards the S&W Shield as my first gun buy. Any reasons not to?
>>
>>28724228
you have a very limited budget.
you don't have a lot of options in that budget.
wanting a gun for concealed carry limits your options even further.
>>
>>28724267
The add was for academy.
>>
>>28724228

>a gun people can agree on

where do you think you are
>>
>>28724228
>4chan, much less /k/ agree on anything
lurk moar.
>>
>>28724280
neat. that's a great price.
http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/savage-axis-308-win-bolt-action-rifle

I would still take a mosin for almost half the price, especially if I were on a budget, but that's a solid deal.
>>
>>28724309
But the ammo is spazing out right now.
>>
>>28724228
Like others have said you cant really cc responsibly for under 1000.

If you want a home defence only gun get a used pump shotgun. A rack of the slide and a GTFO! Will solve most burglaries.
>>
>>28724340
it's not. surplus isn't as easy to find, but modern shit is still readily available. .308 is cheaper right now than nugget food is though.

You cant legaly conceal cary with $150-$200 period.

Check out that maverick op.

And heres some reading for later.
>>
>>28724405
sure you can, in free states.
>>
>>28724276
Squishy trigger.
>>
>>28724427
True!

What state are you in op?
>>
>>28724438
is there a gun in the same price range you would recommend ahead of it?
>>
>>28724405
Well if you were to get an extremely cheap gun like a Lorcin and a generic holster you could make it work for under 200. I'm not sure what various states charge for fees to get a license, permit, or whatever its called in other states, but in my county in PA it was only $25 to get the license to carry. No classes or qualifying like some other states.
>>
>>28724619
No, and heres why.
Life is a trade, there is no god gun.
There are problems with every firearm ever made, thats why we keep making them. Thats a fine choice, and you picked it. Go for it.
>>
>>28724641
Damn. Its like $200 for a 5 year permit in OK. Like $60 for an 8 hour class.
>>
>>28724671
Shit, didn't realize it could cost so much in other states. Not sure what the wait time is either. I got mine a little over a month after I applied. Some counties give them out right when you apply.
