... about the same for inside a house

swords dont need ammo to work and can be hung on wall for decoration without people knowing its fully functional
guns need to be locked up when kids are at the house and some people freak out about them
about the only things swords have over guns in HD

Let's see, you're running up against a raging 6' 2" nig nog who's hopped up on meth.

Would you rather have?
A. A sword, which might mortally wound him, but he can keep on charging if you fuck up.

B. A handgun, preferably something like 9mm or above, which can stop him in his tracks depending on shot placement.

Well, it's true. This guy fought off 3 invaders who had 2 guns between them using only his katana.
>49 year old Dias Costa suffered a home invasion in his house in Cordoba, Argentina. Once inside the house, the three criminals armed with two handguns, started hitting Mr. Costa and his wife. When they tried to enter his son’s bedroom, Mr. Costa grabbed a katana sword he had hanging on a wall and attacked the criminals, cutting them in their hands, arms and face. The fleeing criminals left in a vehicle along with an accomplice that was waiting outside but the driver crashed shortly after due to blood loss. The four criminals continued their escape on foot, but the blood trail was so big cops only had to follow it to a nearby house to capture the attackers.

Getting stabbed or slashed is usually worse than getting shot. Wound channels and tissue damage from a bullet are much cleaner, and usually bleed less (depending on what they hit) than a slash or stab due to how awkward and unclean the cuts usually are. I'd much rather get shot with a handgun than stabbed.
That being said, if someone's threatening my life I'd much rather be able to reach out and touch them from further away than they can touch me.

Certain shades of light can also fuck up your sleeping rhythm, I forget the name, but yeah.
Banning lights at night is stupid but there are a few con's. Pros outweigh them by a long shot but still

I have pitfall traps and pranks laid around my house for home defense.

Otherwise, the sword or a gun leaves a mess; absolute stealth and chloroform is what I prefer. I have the Gimp in the cellar too.
>>
>>28656188
Between those two options? A sword. I carry a gun every day but at inside the house range a sword is much more likely to quickly stop him. That's why my home defense gun is an AR--handgun rounds are anemic, there are tons of cases where people kept fighting after being repeatedly shot with handguns, even after taking 5 rounds of .357mag to the chest. And handguns aren't easy to use under stress.

Now, a more reasonable intruder is more likely to bail at the sight of a gun than the sword, but your example was the coked out monster.

40k fags say this because their game gives an advantage to swords and melee weapons over guns in close combat.
>>
>>28656188
Not him, but I'd honestly take the sword.

On a personal level, I've never shot at a person but I've fenced so I've got more confidence in my sword skills than aim.

On a more practical level I might miss a lot and run out of ammo or get tackled from behind or forget to load my gun. Because I'm a moron.

With a sword I can keep taking swings at my opponent until one of us is dead, switch grips if grappled, or batter away with the pommel or sheath.

Why do you assume that burglars don't carry guns? One shot from any handgun is gonna knock the mall ninja right out of you. I know this is poor quality bait but still. There is a good reason the swat team doesn't kick doors with swords.
>>
I'll take a gun anytime.

I am far more well practiced with it and it doesn't require the room or effort to swing. Those are only a couple on a long list of reasons a firearm is superior.

>The incident occurred at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday, when a 21-year-old resident of a home on Ravenwood Run in the Cedar Creek subdivision heard the sound of breaking glass, then grabbed a sword and went to investigate, police said. The resident found one of the suspects standing inside his home and the other just outside the doorway, at which time he chased them with the sword.

>Several police units soon raced to the scene when other neighborhood residents called 911 to report seeing two males being chased down a street by someone with a sword.

Crossbow.
Imagine getting a 3 inch wide hole punched through your rib cage or gut from a bow with a 200 lb draw.
Downside. It only gets one shot, so I hope you're accurate.
Upside. You can smear blood thinner, poison, or feces on the bolt it if you are feeling particularly malicious.

Hey, on this topic, does anyone happen to know the technical characteristics of low pressure sodium vapor lights? (the ones that shine PURE ORANGE!)

ie. do they have lead in them, and are/can they be made in small sizes/wattages?

I know high pressure sodium vapour lamps do contain lead and IIRC other toxic substances. And I never saw any LPS bulbs bellow, I think, 18 or 35 watts, which is quite a lot for such an efficient lighting type.

Did you know that from practically any distance a gun is a weapon that with minimal practice can be used effectively? Did you also know that it takes an extremely long time to learn the correct way to use a sword and that even the world record fastest swordsman was only able to deflect a pellet? Good luck with that weeaboo.

Random "Otaku-as-fuck" question for you guys, since there seems to be some katana people in here:

I just bought a replica of Kenshin Himura's reverse-blade sword from the anime "Rurouni Kenshin", and a two tier stand to display it on.
Generally, katanas are supposed to be displayed blade-side up curving at the top, with the hilt on the left side, and the sheath under it in the same position.
Since this is a reverse-blade sword, should I be displaying it blade-side up and curving downward, or keep the display it like a normal sword yet put it blade-side down?

What would the Battosai do guise? I legitimately don't know what to do, I have OCD.

Pardon me if I don't believe you, but I think the six rounds of .357 125 JHP I keep on the nightstand will more than fuck up anyone who chooses to die in my house. A sword doesn't do so great at delivering the sort of immediately lethal wounds a gun can. Not to mention 12ga or any rifle caliber.

The murder of South Carolina Trooper Mark Coates by Richard Blackburn: Blackburn knocked Coates to the ground and then shot him in the chest with a .22, but that was stopped by the Trooper’s bullet-resistant vest. Trooper Coates fired at Blackburn with a .357 Magnum, at close contact range, hitting him. Coates then retreated back to his car, calling for help, and continued firing — he hit Blackburn four more times. With a .357 Magnum! Blackburn then fired one more bullet from his .22 derringer, which (due to the angle that Trooper Coates was facing him) happened to find a gap in the armpit of the ballistic vest, and the bullet punctured Coates’s aorta, killing him. And Blackburn, who was hit in the chest five times with the “king of the street” .357 Magnum? He survived, and is now serving a life sentence in prison.

I linked you to the website that I did because he will link you to news articles of it, but also has more stories about how handgun stopping power is a myth, including more stories involving the .357mag.

Secondly if you use a sword I assume you practice on a very regular bases to be proficient enough for that situation and even so intruders use weapons based on a tight space such as a home, such as small-medium melee weapons, small arms, and shotguns
