I go to a small, private liberal arts college in Florida and all of my friends knew/assumedI have guns because I'm a veteranfag. Until very recently I haven't spoken out firearms in person or social media (ATF41p was the point to where I started to vocalize) and being progun hasn't been a major point of contention for me. I've even taken a few of my friends from communist shitholes like Bongland and MA shooting, and they've ended up loving it. That doesn't mean they're going to go out a buy a Glock later that day, but if you're not a spaz, it's easy to convince people guns are fun simply because guns are fucking fun.
HOWEVER, there will always be those that're beyond saving. Some people are so entrenched in their own solipsistic view of the world, that they simply cannot tolerate the notion of an adult being responsible for their own protection. OP, if your friends are like this, then they are not good friends. If not, then should be at least be willing to try shooting with you, and that's when you educate them. I've only met one person that shot my AR for the first time and didn't love it, but she's dating my best friend and is probably a lost cause anyway because she's a berniefag
