ITT: we discuss the merits of our favorite hand to hand weapons and thrown weapons
A personal favorite: the sledgehammer
>good at removing walls and doors between your enemy
>good at creating massive amounts of internal damage with even a meh swing

I choose this.

>short and relatively concealable if you hold it under your arm against your body, or you could put in backpack
>hits hard as fuck, and will fukt even the strongest of skulls in 2 hits
>doesn't need to be sharp and rust free to work properly - also extremely low maintenance in general
>can be used with 1 or 2 hands
>have 5 points of contact with different uses (main spike for neck, hammer for skull, side spikes for skull and they won't get stuck, stabbing point for eyes or throat etc)
>even if a dude is in medieval plate or modern Type IV armor - he is done

a drunk nig with a shitty hammer can do this:

Near indestructible,
Can smash or stab,
Decent weight packs a punch,
Lighter weight allows faster follow-up strikes than most blunt impact weapons.

And (I guess, if you need to) you can use it for mundane purposes that don't involve smashing bone into smaller pieces of bone.

I feel like a lot of those "European Martial Arts" people take the German fighting manuals a little too literally. I somehow doubt they spent 100% of their time bonking each other in the head with their hilt instead of fucking stabbing them. It's like watching someone pick up a rapier and try to fence by bashing with the grip.

Here's an experiment, hit something at full force with this or a piece or rebar.

Result: All that fucking force goes right back into your hands because you're holding onto a solid bar. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Holding onto a sword or mace grip is purposely bigger and padded/adorned with a buffer material so it spreads out and reduces the felt "recoil".
I bet you fags have never gotten your hands dirty in your life and think "oh lol this feels pretty solid in my hands goddamn I love Half-Life 2."

If I had to choose something "exotic," it would be a pair of tomahawks.

There's a learning curve to throwing them properly. Easier to learn than most throwing weapons, for me at least, but the average slob isn't going to be able to pick one up and go full tilt Mohican without some practice. If they're staying in your hand, they'll give you more reach than a knife, and if done right, can even block a blow.

They're practical in day to day use, to boot. It's not totally outlandish to see one of these poking out of someone's gear while on the trail or out innaforest, so in that respect, you can feign ignorance when trying to pass as someone who isn't looking to start some shit.

They're fun as fuck, and they look mean as shit.

can't argue with the interal dmg part, but swing it a couple times and you're winded and off balance, not to mention its strictly a 2 handed weapon and not agile at all

>inb4 im duke nukem
>>
>>28596010
My main grip with this gif is that it's suppose to picture armored fighting but only one person is armored, so... why the hell is he using half-swording ? It completely messes up distances, it's kinda ok as a demonstration, but you would be nowhere this agile with a whole suit of armor, so it's misleading at that point.
And it's obvious that the redshirt can be much less cautious than the armored dude.

So in fine, it's no sparring and it would be absurd as sparring. It's a bad situated demo because they both use the same technics even though it's ridiculous for the armored guy. I don't even know what it is suppose to show or demonstrate.
It's like they want to show that a good fencer without any sort of armor could defeat ok an armored person, which is ridiculously optimistic and pretty stupid in it's own right, armor is a fantastic advantage and the gif is completely misleading in tht regard.

>Longer reach doesn't make blows "deadlier" in themselves, though reach is indeed good.
>the japanese sword also have a two-hand grip that allows lunges and one-handed uses
>"Mordshlag" is made with the pommel, not the crossguard
>Japanese swords had fullers too
>Half-swording isn't for "piercing armor" but for going into gaps with better precision, the longsword can't beat plate armor dead-on, just like any other sword really
>Japanese had some good steel, they had few of it though and certainly their forges were less "potent" than the euro ones. Good steel was always findable mind you
>You seem under the impression that every japanese sword was a work of art, this is completely untrue, there were a lot of cheap swords, just like in europe and just like in Japan, some euros swords were really just showing pieces. The japanese sword too is a tool, at least those used in war. There was a lot of bullshit said about it by the japanese themselves in the Edo era, but we don't need to believe in it. Most katana were a rugged piece of weaponry that was treated like any other weapon.
>historically better means nothing since the two weapons never met
Other than that, it looks video-gamey "deadly attacks", "maximum lethality", etc...
>>
>>28604356

>the implication that European swords were not often extensively decorated.

>some euros swords were really just showing pieces
I'm not enough of a grammar nazi for correcting spelling errors, but I'm weeb enough to say this is just silly katana bashing that is very poorly informed. Sure, there were a lot of issue with the nihonto and sure, the "longsword" is superior in many way but 1) the guys that used them never fought so... 2) we live in a day were swords will never be used so...
There is way more common things to look into each practices and weapons, way beyond silly uninformed bashing, I can't understand why we're still at that unproductive point.

It's not like we'll be using our "deadly sword skillz" any time soon, so why bother which is best...
