Apparently one American guy was with them, rest were frogs, I wonder which one the American was :^).

Any idea as to why? Do they attach people from other countries on something like this?
>>
>>28568878
Embassy security attache, could be embedded with the frogs?

The guy is probably a member of an ODA in AFRICOM and just happened to be in the area possibly.
>>
>>28568525
The most badass one of course
>>

Was thinking he might have been cross-training with their team and just decided to go along when they got the call as he is technically part of their team until he comes back home.

Both of the guys on the right of >>28568404
are American.

We have SF from COS in Burkina since 2012 at least.

They said only one American was there, not two

I'm curious why you think that guy is an American is all, is there something that gives him away?

why? what evidence based on the picture gives reason to believe. the dude on the far right is american.

There's only one unit that uses all of that gear and it certainly isn't French.

>>

Prove to me that ODAs can't have 416s then?

These are GBs dude, they can realistically get them if they wanted.

AFRICOM has a nice budget going for them as well.
>>
>>28569174
>>28569224
Not that poster, but I think a lot of people would be surprised just how much gear can get disseminated throughout SOCOM units once it has entered the DoD/Govt. supply line. JSOC stuff can easily end up in other SOCOM units once this happens.
Mk.24s that were originally for DEVGRU have basically entered common service with the rest of the teams now despite no official adoption from the rest of the teams, for instance.

It wouldn't be at all surprising if the SF CIF teams gearing up for deployments were getting new stuff and giving the Mk.18s and older gear a rest.
Of course it could also easily be Delta too, but just throwing a point out there.
>>
>>28569347
This, especially as units get redeployed out of Afghanistan and into Africa a lot of that shit will start getting spread around.

There is honestly no reason why an ODA couldn't have that stuff.

Not the same unit, but the Army made AWG turn in their HK416s after they bought them. Outside of special mission units like Delta/DEVGRU, SOCOM still has its own standardization and supply chain. They're much more lax than the big army, but they still want their troops to use weapons that have parts commonality. This is part of the reason why the SEALs are adopting the Glock 19 Gen 3, because Special Forces, Rangers, and MARSOC have and it allows them to share a common pool of parts and maintenance that saves them money in the long term.

While it's not impossible for Green Berets to use HK416s, it's very very unlikely. And that specific configuration of it is known to be a Delta Force thing. They also do Foreign Interal Defence on occasions and they might have been assisting/advising the French or Burkina Faso special forces
>>

What rifle is that guy using second from the left? That doesn't look like a HK416. It looks like it has a standard M4 buttstock with a 20 inch barrel and a KAC quad rail. Some kind of C7 variant?
>>
>>28569540

Oddly enough it looks like a Block II M4A1; RIS II, SU-230 and SF or NT4 suppressor.

I don't know for the rst of said gear, but french army bought a whole container of 416 as "test" supply for an outgoing contract for service rifle... 416 is more common on french SF than : FN AR type.

Yes and in this case they're predominantly A5 variants with a few outliers configured in a similar fashion (not to mention held by obvious French operators.)

The two weapons and personnel in question here are distinctly unique from the others and are equipped identically to those we know to be part of "the unit."

The magwell. The ones in US inventory aren't HK416A5s, so they don't have the updated magwell. The older HK416s have a magwell that are level with the trigger guard. It's also known that Delta customizes their 416s with Geissele rails while DEVGRU uses Remington RAHGs
>>
>>28568404
Dumb question (non military here) but why do they use silencers ?
>>
>>28569850
They lower muzzle flash and noise. Also because they're sof so why the fuck not
>>
>>28569850

Signature reduction ie: less muzzle flash, dust kickup, sound dampening and most helpful in a close proximity team environment is drastically minimized concussive muzzle blast.

It's not really that complicated. All of these autists claiming white SF has Geissele'd 416s are full of it. I've never seen any pictures of white side SF with issued 416s.

People claiming they "trickled down" from the SMU's are idiots. That happened with NSW and the Mk24 mostly because the Mk23 is a brick and they realized the "suppressed pistol" niche needed filling at all levels, not just tier 1. On the other hand the SOCOM-paid-for SOPMOD block 2 rifles are 95% there and there's no real reason for SF to waste discretionary funding on 416s. This is the same reason everyone's going to the Glock 19 instead of dicking around with their own special snowflake handguns.
>>
What were so many American troops doing in Burkina Faso?

Probably because Islamic militants took westerners hostage there. The US has maintained a presence in Africa for decades and recent activity in that area would only have increased the manning.
>>
>>28569489
I've been reading Relentless Strike and this passage is very much related
>JSOC preferred for the Army to pay for Tier 2 units like the Rangers and TF 160, while equipping the Tier 1 units almost entirely via U.S. Special Operations Command Major Force Program-11, a congressionally mandated fund that allowed SOCOM, under which JSOC now fell, to pay for special operations–specific gear, as if it were its own service.
"Tier 1" SMUs basically have their own allocated budget for fancy equipment while others are still paid for by the big army for the most part
