First time in /k/, long time /int/ poster
I need some help from you guys.

My new job requires me to get a sidearm. Personally I want to get a .40, but the job only allows .38 revolvers (no) or 9mm semi-autos.
While there are ammo and caliber restrictions, the manufacturer is at my discretion.

Right now I'm looking at Glock, S&W, and Berretta

>Glock
Never had one, hear great things, I know law enforcement mostly use the .40 model. How is the 9mm?
>Smith & Wesson
I have had a S&W .22lr pistol since I was a kid. It's a great little gun, no idea how good the larger, newer, models are
>Baretta
I used them in the coast guard years ago, while it gets familiarity points, I was never very impressed with it, but maybe that was bulk military contract production runs. Are over the counter Barettas good quality?

So, /k/ help me out, Baretta, Glock, S&W, or another 9mm you can point me towards. Obviously I don't need an engraved, artisan crafted, one-of-a kind, gilded, collector's handgun, but within reason, cost isn't really a big concern.

Not a Glock person. Sig is cool 'tho.

Nevet heard of it, I'll look it up thanks.

>>28560712
Yeah, I'm looking at the M&P, never heard of a px4, forgot about sig sauer.
>>
get a 9mm with good hollow points (gold dot, HST, ranger T, etc) and you won't worry about not having a 40
>>
>>28560729
PX4 is verry nice. I'd see if you can rent it first 'tho. It's not for everyone and is nothing like the M9/92FS you're had in the wayback.
>>
>>28560747
Hollow points aren't allowed

>>28560753
I'll definitely look into it

>>

For .40 I'd recommend the M&P.
The guns are built for the round and M&P40s are pretty cheap used or new considering they don't sell as well as the 9mm.
>>
>>28560792
>Hollow points aren't allowed
Wow what the fuck kind of retarded ass policy is that? Not that a 9mm will massively over penetrate shit, but it still helps mitigate the risk of collateral damage.
>>
>>28560684
Glock or M&P

Compact or full-sized, depending on your hands.

It really isn't worth looking elsewhere unless you're a collector or like novelty guns.
>>

Cops generally don't use hollow points

can't go wrong with most of the quality 9mms on the market today, just depends which one feels best to you

Honestly, i would go for a P226.
But that's because a P226 fits my hands and the control layout works for me.
Its all steel so its a little weighty, but no more weighty than any other full size all steel 9mm.

The P320 is good for the polymer striker fired crowd, plus you can swap out pieces of it and get different lengths and grips.

Beretta 92's are very well made, the military ones are generally old as balls and abused to hell and back. I personally love them, but I love the px4 more.

Plus it was Cobbs gun in inception so it's even better.

I like my Beretta but you the glocks are easier to use due to the no safety and they are cheaper / higher capacity.

If I were in that situation I would get the glock 17 for duty, if you have smaller hands perhaps the 19 will fit you better. 26 if you are concealing though you can conceal any fill sized pistol with the proper holster and garments. I CC my 92FS but admittedly it is not ideal for that. All the Glocks I mentioned take the same mags so you can run the 33rd mags in any of them.

I dont like handguns that dont have factory high capacity mags. Beretta 92 and M9 will take the factory 30rds and all the glocks i mentioned will take the factory 33rds.

I have a Glock 21SF and Beretta 92FS, I shoot the glock better, probably because I have much more trigger time on it. I am contemplating a G26 for easier concealment though I may get a kahr or LCP9 or SIG 938 for easier concealment. Haven't decided yet.

Lurking for interest. Similar situation (M&P .40 vs 92FS), but not job-related.
>>

Sig is the way to go.

226 if fullsized with a metal frame is your speed, SP2022 if you want something with polymer.

DA/SA master race either way.
>>
>>28560858
It's like you didn't even read the op you stupid faggot

OP, you have a few options. I've shot a lot of 9mm handgun's.

M&p and the FNS will be your cheapest good options. I think the FNS is the better pistol of the two, both $400
Glock is great*, sig sauer makes a lot of great pistols too. P250 is DOA but $350, the p320 is its striker fired brother, i dont think theres a bad gun in the whole p22X line up.

I dislike the cz75 pistol and its variants/spinoffs (jerico, and all the turkshit).

The Walhter ppq is alright, so's the h&k vp9. They both just cost a few bucks more than these other pistols, but the ergos and triggers are both awesome. I think $550-$600 for these two

H&K will cost a bit more. For a 9mm h&k, expect to pay $700-$1000, depending on the model
The USP and p2000 9mm will cost $700-$800, but the newest model, the p30 will certainly cost $950+
H&K pistols are my favorite 9mm pistols. They're tough and shoot good.

*the problem with glock is that a new one costs too damn much. For what the pistol offers, I refuse to pay $550 new when the m&p and FNS exists at $400.
>>
>>28561173

Sorry 9mm bro. I used to have a Glock 17 longslide in 9mm and it was cool if that is any consolation?

Had a huge as cutout on the top of the barrel I was told was to reduce weight.

9mm is cool too. I would shoot anything over nothing.
>>
You should listen to
>>28560899
OP, you should research the suggestions here but don't buy one until you hold it and if you can shoot it before hand do it. Personally I like glocks, XDs, cz75s, and I honestly don't care for sigs or m&ps, I don't think they're bad guns they just don't feel very good in my hand.
Also why don't you want a .38? Capacity?

my two cents, the M&P or glock. the beretta is a fine duty weapon but falls short compared to the other two. its heaver and holds less rounds while the M&P and glock are more modular, has easier access to quick parts and upgrades, lighter, more rounds and if it gets beaten up or lost to evidence then who cares. The glock probably has more of a market for parts, but the M&P isn't far behind. IMO the M&P feels better and you get the special snowflake not a glock feeling so that's my pic

do you have any other qualifications/desires for a pistol. theres plenty of good 9mms to pick from aside from these

Another vote for the Beretta 92 here. As another anon said, the ones you buy new aren't like the military ones that are beat to hell and back.

I have a 92A1 (pic related), and I love it. I went to the range with a buddy of mine that was in Iraq and had been issued the M9 on his tour. When he shot mine, he was completely familiar with it, and was also impressed by how nice it was compared to the ones he used which were beat to shit.

Great build quality, smooth shooter, reliable, and sexy.

I have nothing bad to say about the Glock or S&W, just a lot of good things to say about the 92.
>>
>>28560684
Don't be a polyfag and get a metal-frame handgun.

Significantly softens recoil impulse, and since you're not a cop and probably not cc'ing a full-sized handgun, weight only works in your favor.

So as the guy who is stuck between M&P .40 or 92FS 9mm, how do you REALLY weigh the differences between the two?

I could never warm up to glocks. Something about the grip angle doesn't work for me. I would go with the M&P for a work gun. But I also don't need to carry for my job, so you would know better.

They're all good choices .
