Tight quarters. Before to time of red dot optics, a shorter sight radius was the way to go for quicker sighting. Its pretty much irrelevant nowadays.

While it is a pretty cool development in the ar-15 DI system, it was pretty expensive and couldn't compete with a standard AR on price and couldn't compete with the HK416 and other expensive pistons because it doesn't have a legion of fanboys to slavishly buy their rifle.
Also didn't help that most people didn't actually understand the gun and conversations about it devolved into retards arguing over whether it was DI or piston. People kind of get turned off from a gun when all they see about it is people arguing.
As for where you can get one, the answer is only gunbroker/armslist/maybe an auction. Z-M sold the designs to Para Ordnance, and after a brief run , para seems to have stopped production and you can't find a mention of it anywhere on their site.
