Flechette flechette but not flechette, or flechette flechette. And fuck you if you say flechette.
>>
>>28464882
fleshet
>>
>>28464882
it's pronounced "shit" because it's shit
>>
>>28464882
I'm no linguist, but I pronounce it "flechette" simply because "flechette" and "flechette" sound retarded to me.
>>
flesh-ay is objectively correct, pronouncing it how the french do.
>>
>>28464935

>french
>correct
not ever. Not even about their own fucking langauge.
>>
>>28464964
How is "fléchette" mispronounced in French?
Flay-SHET sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

flesh-et

there is a -te at the end, so the last t gets pronounced.
>>
>>28464935
No, that would be spelt "flechet."
>>
>>28464935
>>28465068
Pretty wrong, misunderstanding French rules. The A/Ay sound is associated with -et not -ette, which is pronounced as "ett".
>>28465084
French has a soft C in a "ch" pairing which produces more of an S sound.
>>28465213
Correct.

>>
>>28464882
Fléchette, french word, from "flèche" (arrow). A little arrow.

Pronounce it like "flesh" and "et". Fleshet.

Note that to be extremely accurate you have to take in account the fact é and è aren't the same thing. "é" is acute, "è" is bass. You don't have this in english.

so it's é like in "déjà vu" and "è" like in "day".
>>
>>28471093
and since I'm kind I even added a vocaroo so you burgers can enjoy your FLÉCHETTE.

Its pronounced "Useless novelty round that has no meaningful purpose whatsoever"
>>
I say it flesh-ey, but it's whatever.
>>
>>28471296
That's wrong.
In french a word ending in -et is pronounced "-eh" while a word ending in -ette is pronounced "-ett"
>>
>>28471093

day-ja-vu vs day

IT'S THE SAME YOU FUCKING FROG
>>
>>28471093
>è like in "day"
What? E accent grave would be pronounced like "duh".

"Déja" and "Day" have roughly the same pronunciation in english.

Sorry dude but you're either confused as to how "day" is pronounced, or you're full of shit.
Dé is pronounced like "day" in english, De is pronounced similarly to "duh" in english and dè is pronounced like a flat e as in "bet" in english.

The confusion comes because è is often placed next to Rs and other consonants that make it sound very similar to an english -ay, like "père" which to an English speaker would sound like "pair" but is closer in pronunciation to "pehr"

>>28471411
>Sorry dude but you're either confused as to how "day" is pronounced, or you're full of shit.
I'm thinking you're very confused as to how "dé" is pronounced.
>>
It's \fle.ʃɛt\

http://www.ikonet.com/fr/ledictionnairevisuel/sounds/qc/01093.mp3 (fléchette)

I've seen both fléchette and flèchette, though, since it's derived from flèche.
Southern french are more likely to use the -é sound, northerners will use the -è.

>>28471411
/deʒavy/
/deJ/
I don't think so.
>>
>>28472095
I guess you're right on this point about northern and southern pronounciation.

And at least now they won't call the things "FLAK-HATE" or "FLUH-SHUT".

Why everything related to french stuff is always so much difficult to get? Jeeze.
>>
>>28471963
I've spoken fluent french and english longer than you've probably been alive, I know what I'm talking about
>>
>>28464882
i always thought it should be pronounced "fleshetty" like how machete is pronounced. then I heard some soldier on some show in the military channel pronounce it "fleshett"
>>
>itt: retards
The french word idéal is pronounced literally "ee-day-al"
Dé is about as close to the english word Day as you're going to get, assuming you're not including lettering that affects pronunciation like Des-

The word is written Fléchette, pronounced "flay-shet". What that other anon said about regional pronunciation (fléchette pronounced "fleh-shet") is probably correct.

But for fuck's sake, as long as you're not saying "fluh-shay" or "flak-et" everyone knows what you mean.
>>
>>28472252
Machete is spanish, flechette is french.
I can see where the confusion comes from, though iirc Spanish has very few words with doubled Ts
>>
Please stop making us look stupid on the interwebz.

t. Anon frenchfag
>>
French speaker here, it is pronounced "Fleyshett"
>>
>>28472267
>What that other anon said about regional pronunciation (fléchette pronounced "fleh-shet") is probably correct.

Not only it's correct, it's the reason why the accents are different on the É and È.

I sincerely hope we'll never have to teach /k/ how to pronounce "on" "an", "un" and "eu" in french. Some frogposters would probably stream their own suicide over this.

Now that we have solved the flechette issue, let's get to the real problem :
LIEUTENANT.

On a sidenote, >>28471125 is by the book northern "flechette" pronunciation, >>28472095 is southern.

>>28474195

Damn, that's a pretty long word, I wouldn't have guessed by reading it.

It's not like we don't have our own failings.

>>28474876
Like a weather vane. The fins at the end stabilize it point forward. You lose some momentum with the ones that rotate 180, though.
>>
>>28474876
poorly, that's how they work
>>
>>28464882
