I never shot a .380, it's like a short 9mm, right?
>>
>>28453594
Yes.

Be choosy with your ammo, look at some gel tests to IWBA standards out of similar length barrels.
>>
>>28453594
.380 would be as small as I would go

And honestly that's only because the self defense loads they put out for it now, some self-defense .380 is actually pretty respectable
>>
>>28453594
I don't carry below 12g.
>>
Basically

And yes, any round that will reliably penetrate 12" of properly calibrated ballistic gelatin is suitable for self-defense.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNtPHYwcDts
This guy tested a bunch of different .380 ammo, and Precision One reliably penetrated to 13" inches and expanded properly.

9x18 Makarov and .380 are the lowest I'd ever go.
People who carry .22 handgun astound me. Yeah I wouldn't want to get shot by .22 but for fucks sake step up to an actual caliber that justifies having a full-sized gun built for it
>>
>>28453594

9x18 is stronk but .380 is weak, that extra millimeter of case length is the difference between life and death.
>>
>>28453779

Some dude shot his wife in the head (she was in bed). Then killed him self. She woke up, bleeding but 100% fine. Police were like "are you ok"?

It was some pussy ass .380 fmj.
>>
Based on videos I've seen of various .380 loads, I definitely wouldn't want to have that for my last defence. I'd be happy with 9mm in a handgun the same size despite the increase in recoil.
>>
>>28453670

If you really just want to magdump into a mother fucker and get out then a .22 is okay CCW. Noise is another factor, some people are legitimately frightened by loud guns and know they would either fire poorly and hesitate when confronted with firing in self defense. Not saying those aren't things that could be corrected with training but I would rather someone who is that bad at guns be throwing out .22 slugs than full bore .44 magnum.

I personally carry a .38 LCR because its a handy little gun and one of the only snub nosed revolvers I've handled that is really enjoyable to shoot. My old scandium framed S&W wasn't kicking like a mule or hard to keep on target, the gun itself would just wear on my hand after 50 or so rounds.

I would say .380 and .38 special (from a snub nose) are about on par with one another as the bottom row of acceptable carry calibers.

>>28453806
>>28453812

Been used by tiny european manlets to shoot other tiny euroPEONs. Americans come sturdier than that, .380 is the bottom of the barrel here.

Toppiest of keks. .32acp is like a fucking .22. At least .380 has something behind it.
>>
I personally wouldn't since there are so many small 9mms on the market now that rival the size of many 380s and are a breeze to carry. However I would feel fine carrying 380.

I don't bother carrying, so any caliber would be better than average.

Though with the ease of carry of the guns currently on the market, it looks like I wouldn't go for anything under 32 since the lightest semi 22s and 25s seem to actually be heavier or snaggier.

>>28453594
I wouldn't carry below 9mm.

Reason being, the only benefit I see of .380 is the tiny gun. With tiny gun comes tiny capacity. Once you're limiting yourself to 6-7 rounds, you might as well carry a 5-6 round snub revolver. Just as easy to conceal, similar capacity, more power.

Auto cartridges belong in larger frame handguns, where the small caliber benefits you with a greater capacity. And in those larger frames, again there is no place for .380 when 9mm is the same size.

But, that's how I see it, carry what works best for you.
>>
>>28453966
I find this difficult to believe. I've shot plenty of things with .380, hard drives, frying pans, cinder blocks, frozen pumpkins, and from what I've seen even a .380 do to those, a skull wouldn't be an issue.
>>
If the only other alternative is to be unarmed then yes, .380 is acceptable.

First rule of a gun fight: have a gun.

A .380 two shot pocket pistol in a holster you have on you 24/7 is infinitely more useful than a 9mm/.40/.357/10mm/.45 full size duty pistol you have on you "sometimes."

And just because she survived it doesn't mean she's living at the same quality before she was shot. Without more info, anon's anecdote is shit.

When I need to defend myself, I use a wire in my left sleeve to pull the barrel up, and a wire in my right sleeve to work the trigger. Something to consider in the factors of what a CCW can do for you.
Most .32ACP guns have the same terminal power as .380s. Besides the Tomcat 3032 for example is smaller, lighter, quicker to aim with shorter barrel for those 1-10 yard triple taps.
If I know there is going to be trouble and expecting it, grab your .45 ACP or hand cannon or raifu.
A deadlier, heavier round has compromises with the amount of ammo you can carry in the magazine, and sheer bulk of CCW counter issues.
Yeah, lets see you whip out that 9mm beast of a gun with rails on it and twist your wrist to aim .1 seconds slower. Not all of us lift weights for a living, and may have carpal tunnel.
>>
>>28453594
my CC is a 32acp. I don't have a problem with it, I wouldn't have a problem with CC'ing a 22 if it weren't for the unreliability.
>>
>>28456227
I sold my .380 Bersa Thunder CC for $150 due to the fact that the barrel was too fucking long for my taste, twice as heavy to sling around to shoot quickly at targets in 360 (alone at the range ).
Besides looking kewl as the James Bond Walther PPK clone made in Argentina, the tear down the firing pin was a bitch to put back together.
I plated the sucker with nickel and nobody would bid on it on gun broker, so I dumped it at the pawn shop in desperate times.
Unless I can shoot 4-10 .22LR at a time like some hornets nest, I wouldn't depend on the CCW aspects of it.
The Tomcat 3032 is as loud at 9mm normal barrel length guns for the scare factor.
Still pissed at the cracked frame issue on mine. Beretta wouldn't replace it, welded and polished to fix it.

Yes gun is better than no gun.

Some places in the world do not allow you to get a 9mm so the .380 is the highest you can go in a pistol.

In hueland, .380 for pistols or .38spl for revolver.

Pretty much any .380 is going to affordable. Walthers are good choices. For a slight step up in caliber you can get a Makarov and it's just as good for CCW

Shot placement is what kills the man. So practice will improve shot placement. So shoot what will encourage you to be a better shot. A lady who's afraid of the 1811 her husband gave her might end up being less deadly than a lady who shoots her .25 every other day.

The catch is that you don't want it to penetrate. You want it to stop before exiting and thus transfer all its energy to the target.

How much of energy is a different question.
