>Coworkers tell me you dont really need all that fancy camouflage gear (which is ridiculously expensive) you just need normal hiking clothing
>Trying to come up with a packing gear

What would be in my packing list? Its me and like 3 other bros as a hunting party. Probably would stay there for a long weekend and shoot a medium size game that is delicious and also could provide trophies.

What do? Help me with the manly arts /k/ommandos.

Pic related; just bros

Safety Orange, some jerky, bogroll, plenty of water, binoculars if you have them, map+compass for when you're out of cellphone land, good boots, ear protection, gloves and other insulatory clothing. A cooler for storing your game and a vehicle capable of going offroad and hauling whatever you bring hack

As for soecific hunting gear, you'll have to ask someone whose more experienced in whatever, specifically, you plan to hunt.

You really don't need all that camo gear.
Literally, just pack as if you were camping + meat storage / latex gloves / cleaning knives.

When I go to Alaska (for coastal black bear hunts) I rock out with a waxed canvas anorak and some slav-shit surplus pants. Most important, however, are your boots. Have a well broken in, fast drying, pair.

Also, bring socks boy. You will never have enough wool socks.

Oh, and whatever you do. Please don't buy into the "BEAR DEFENSE REVOLVER" meme.

You will die.

-t bear hunter pro.

>mfw an absolutely giant black bear appears 10 yards from me after I've filled my permit on my last trip.
>>
>>28438084
Son, if you bring a spear they'll laugh you out of the state. You'll need bear spray, a high powered rifle, a powerful sidearm, warm clothes, a sat phone if it's a long trek, and good sturdy boots
>>
fucking go back to /out/
>>
>>28438400
>Clearly never hunted boar or camel.

I don't know what you'll be hunting OP, but a spear is a good thing to pack if you're hunting animals that charge (moose for example) - just make sure the sear has shoulders on it to prevent the animal from running down the entire weapon.

But of course, your weapon should be either a firearm or a bow - since you're inexperienced, use a firearm.
The spear is protective equipment.
>>
>>28439263
People hunt camel???
>>
>>28439263
Nah man a spear would just be a weight in your pack that you probably couldn't even use efficiently
>>
What's a good all around caliber. I'm thinking of 308 300win or 30-06 but am not against other calibers. Just a good all around hunting rifle
>>
>>28439644
.338-06 A-Square is the Master race hunting cartridge
>>
>>28439644
308 is cheap and effective, get an ar-10 or some form of the scar
>>
>>28439644
.30-06>.308 purely because of the greater range of bullet wights and case capacity.
Go with .300win if you plan on shooting at long ranges.
>>
>>28439644

There is a reason 30-30 is the most common hunting round in the US. It's reliable, tested, and powerful. I wouldn't say it's the best for everything but it is well rounded. A .308 is also a solid choice, though I probably wouldn't shoot moose with it (just because I've never been far enough north to learn about killing them) as a personal preference. I imagine you will be hunting those mountain goats or shit like that, either of the rounds I listed should do that job swimmingly.
>>
>>28439748
But both of those rounds are more expensive and less common than 308
>>
>>28439766
>more expensive
The price difference between comparable .308 and .30-06 hunting ammunition is negligible.
Also the difference of a couple of dollars per box of ammo shouldn't be the deciding factor in choosing a hunting caliber.
>less common
I have yet to see a store that stocked .308 but not .30-06. I'll give you that they don't usually have .300win at Wally World.
>>
>>28439763
Is there a difference between lever vs. bolt?
>>
>>28439931
Bolt actions are typically cheaper than lever actions. They also allow you to fire prone easier. Lever actions are just cool, and can fire at a faster rate.

In the end it just comes down to preference, but if you're on a budget bolt action is probably what you need.

>>28439917
So as far as accuracy and distance is a 300 win the best choice as it won't drop as fast as the 308? Also thanks for the input
>>
>>28440189
338 lapua is the king of accuracy, distance and power. 300 win a shit
>>
>>28441061
>Lapua
>Not objectively superior .338 Norma

Is this 2006?
>>
>>28439973
well I'm not really a good shot so I need to be able to put as many rounds on the target as much as possible, one or two should hit it at some point
>>
>>28441418
Get what looks cool to you and is in your budget.
>>
>>28438025
whatever you would have hiking
+ blaze orange, box of boolets, rifle
>>
>>28439917
After a few thousand rounds a few dollars makes a difference. I said .308 was more popular because I can buy a semiautomatic rifle chambered in it as well for multiple ammo usage
>>
>>28438025
>GI Flightsuit
>A10 Warthog
>100,000 of ammunition
>8 CBU type unguided bombs
>Plenty of Jet Fuel
>Cliff Bars, costco has the variety pack with Chocolate chip bars and Peanut butter ones. Fucking good shit
Make sure you don't cheap out on the optics system, nicer A10s have a fancy 720 degree DTV/IR targeting system so you can plan runs and track targets.
Use the cluster bombs on hog packs, and the GAU on small groups/individual targets.
Dont forget to flag the hits in your GPS so you can retrieve the meats later.

AKfag here. Bring regular /out/ stuff, check the board if you need help on that.
As far as Alaska specific stuff, add:
>bag and cordage to hang food up in a tree
>very strong backpack
>Listerine so the natives let you on their land
>!!!!!BUGSPRAY AND GLOVES!!!!!!
I'm going to assume you are relatively new to the state and haven't done much outdoorsy stuff yet. The mosquitoes get to be at least a few inches long, and their bites are a bit more than a nuisance. You can get really swollen. When gold panning, I get a few of these suckers on each knuckle when the deet washes off. You can use a bug net and gloves but if you bring bug spray be sure to hang that up too with everything else that smells, far away(i do a quarter mile) from camp, unless you want a nosy bear walking around your camp. Make sure your camp smells like nature. Cook somewhere else.
As for funs, a good all around caliber would be 30-06. It is big enough for all animals up here except polar bears and maybe kodiak bears. I'm not sure what you mean by medium game, but ill assume it is caribou sized. I've heard .270 is a good caliber for caribou, and it will stop bears too (if you can aim). I carry 300winmag or 44mag if im packing light. I also added a nugget to arsenal, and I plan on keeping that close by when fishing. Bearspray is great too, I carry that when im going really light.
Side note: if you are going to go to /out/, don't let them convince you to bring a tarp or hammock instead of a tent.

Traverse fall apart. Stick to taclites for 5.11, but only if you don't mind looking like an edgelord.

If you absolutely need to have bodycon asshugging stretchypants, go with ScottEVest pants.

>Listerine so the natives let you on their land
As a native, I giggled.
>>
>>28439293
Yeah, in my country there is a fuckload of them, they're actually a pest.

They get a bit retarded if they've been shot and it's not an instant death, sort of how boars do.

get stationed here in Fairbanks
Know a lot battle buddy go outside for hunting
Seen a lot of dead ducks, some dead deer or moose, one dead bear
Make sure all of you have hunting licenses before take off
Bring multiple licenses for different animals
Be careful about selecting victim, if you kill the wrong thing or wrong size or what not, you will pay a lot for that
