Why is this board so painfully obsessed with glawks?

There's other good pistols out there.
>>
Because everyone thinks they sound smart for posting the "right answer" and Glocks are typically vanilla enough to work in any situation
>>
>>28436166
Chip on your shoulder?
>>
Glock is the most cock sounding gun so it's a Freudian thing.
>>
>>28436159
Because people who use glocks are either poorfags or have them customized to some degree, and its a decent firearm with an extensive aftermarket.
>>
>>28436179
No and if you don't see why that's true of like 90% of Glock advocates you're just not very bright.
Glocks are fine handguns but the level of absurd praise they get is entirely based in fallacy
>>
>>28436159
They are babbies first handgun.

Tacticool polymer. It's great for severe encounters with 5+ assailants, in which you need to head shot each 2 or more times.

It appears that way because half of the threads about handguns on /k/ are OP asking what they should get for their first handgun or first carry gun.

Like it or not, glock brand glocks are simple and effective guns. they come in a wide variety of sizes/calibers for different scenarios, they have everything you need and nothing you don't.

There are plenty of other good pistols out there, and a lot of them I like better than the glock. In general I don't like polymer pistols (aside from the hk p30, which, aside from being polymer and therefore kinda ugly, is extremely comfy to shoot), but if somebody asks "what pistol should i get to carry?" glock 19, 26 or 43 are usually my first suggestions.

In fact, I think the best 9mm pistol is the steyr GB (pic related). No safety, 18 round magazine, exceptional gas-delayed blowback operation, smooth trigger, and is super comfy. But I can't suggest that as a gun to buy in any thread because a) it's expensive and b) i have no idea what their pistol preferences are, maybe they like to carry cocked and locked.

>>28436487
Do you think plain glocks are tacticool? IMO they are the most modest of all the polymer guns.
>>
glock invented the first main stream polymer gun. Everyone else just copies their design now. It's hard to beat the price. Thus, it's a good choice. Also you cannot find a gun with more aftermarket options than a glock. You can pay a little more and get a springfield with more features or pay a little less and get an M&P. They are all good choices.
>>
>>28436655
glock brand glock or smith brand glock are the only reasonable options IMO.

glock brand glocks have the blocky grip, smith brand glocks have the rounded grip. otherwise they're basically the same gun. point and shoot.

though the m/ps have a more aggressive rail, i guess they're a bit more tactical looking.
>>
>Bitching about the machines that people use to enjoy their hobby

We /v/ now?
>>
Glocks are the best price/performance guns on the market.

You are a fedora tipping faggot if you think your malfunctioning 1911s or your "can't get it wet" VP9 are better
>>
>>28436886
USPs and Mk 23 s are though
>>
>>28436624
>No safety
I am literally looking right at the safety.
>>
Only problem glock really has is the shitty sights it comes with. Then again, this can be switched out easily.

Anyone with an opinion of any worth would point this out straight away when trying to criticize glocks. Of course like the noguns the majority of posters are on this board are, this isn't ever mentioned.
>>
>>28436159
>why is this forum about firearms so gung ho about this really popular gun?
Really now? Glocks are just fine, but lots of people here prefer other pistols.

>>28436228
Most popular pistol in the first world maybe, but the most popular gun period is probably the AKM

>>28436254
Honestly, they're alright to stick with too, they work and are typically difficult to break.

>>28436624
Shame the GB never took off, it's such an exquisite fucking design.
My second choice is the S&W 5906 because it's easily available and cheap for such a good steelframed 9.

>>28436675
There's also the Steyr brand Glock, and there was just a Ruger brand Glock that looks like it's ok.
They're all good.

>>28436690
You're right, we're better than this.

>>28436895
The USP is breddy gud, but the Mk.23 is probably too niche for most folks. I mean, it's indestrucible and all, but it's very big and expensive.
Come to think of it, the Mk.23 would be a fantastic basis for a .460 Rowland pistol.

Are you FUCKING KIDDING ME? everyone on here constantly spaghettis the glock fan/fucc boi meme shit. Then there's that one jackass doing his level best to make us all hate the vp9
>>
I like glocks because they're reliable and decently priced. I'm not gonna cry about it getting scratched up or confiscated if it is ever used in a self defense situation. The magazines are cheap and easily obtainable and the sheer number of accessories out there is amazing. Furthermore in the unlikely event I need it serviced pretty much everyone is a certified glock armorer but because it is so simple to completely disassemble I could do everything myself. Spare parts are also readily available which may not be the case for some guns out there. And finally it is extremely popular in civilian, law enforcement, and military groups. Pretty much every SF group uses and now that SEALS are adopting it you're pretty much an operator too with a glock 19.
>>
I want to get a Steyr M9a1 because it's so fucking space-gun looking.
>>
>>28437465
You were doing good until you got to the sf/operator thing. Your opinion will now be discarded as it sounds mallninja
>>
>>28437481
I like em. Haven't shot it, but very comfortable. The only reason my choice is Glock is it's an established name, more than steyr I think in my area, and has proven it's reliability. Not that the steyr hasn't. I just don't know that much about them

I wish there were other alternatives to Glocks to like but I simply don't. Glocks are boring but they just work and I like the grip angle.
>>
>>28437506

I'm not a shill at all, but they just work. In the 15 years I've owned them, the only issue I've had was limp writing the G27. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
>>
Find me a pistol in a half dozen calibers, huge aftermarket parts, a certified armorer on every corner, disassembly so easy you can do most repairs, tons of used guns with little actual firing from LE, all for the low price of Glocks

Toss in their public safety discount, and every volunteer firefighter, EMT and MOS can get them for dirt
>>
>>28436159
>Glocks

Otherwise known as "Babby's First Gun"

Despite what this board says, I like my Meme1911 better than my Glock.
>>
>>28437455
the reason they're a good starter gun is because they're easy to operate. good for defense because you just have to point and click

has a consistent trigger, no fumbling safety, polymer frame is lightweight + easy to carry/aim and the heavy slide and low bore axis manage recoil.

>>28437449
the rogak guys fucked it up by getting blueprints making a shitty version before steyr started making the gun themselves, giving them a bad rap from the start.

aside from that, they were competing with all the other wonder 9s that we know today; the beretta 92, sig p226, glock 17. when those guns got picked up for american and european contracts, the steyr kind of faded from view.

however, it was popular among special forces operatives because it has extremely low recoil for a 9mm, and the fixed barrel makes it extremely accurate.
>>
>>28437558
the DA is 14 lbs, essentially the gun's "safety"

the SA is very smooth, between 2-4 lbs i think.
>>
>>28437449
Probably because of the Rogak, which was a dogshit copy made before the real GB could hit stateside.

The GB is an excellent pistol, and the Rogak is what happens when you fuck up copying that excellent pistol.

>>28437397
Yeah. I mean, I can deal with revolvers in stainless, or a two-tone (like a stainless slide with a dark frame), but generally I like a darker finish.

>>28437455

>>
>>28437665
That doesn't sound too bad. I've always liked using the DA first shot as my safety on my P229 rather than a manual safety. It's a shame I'll probably never see a GB unless I'm specifically looking for one.
>>
>>28436186
You're the one making the connection, bud. Tell me about your father.
>>
>>28437487

/k/omrade that was just a joke. There was a thread earlier last week where it was announced seals going to glock 19 and a few anons were upset with their mk25/p226 purchase. I love glocks but I'm not gonna deny that hk USPs are better engineered guns and that the p226 is also a damn good gun. I fucking lol'd when the anons were regretting the mk25 purchases.
>>
>>28436159
Reliability, it's the name of the game. The glock is a hideous fucking chud of a gun that is ridiculously reliable. Are there better guns out there? Fuck yeah, however if you want a foolproof bullet hose, and give no shits about anything else, its glock.
>>
>>28436159
The more important question is why are you so obsessed with being a snowflake that you would outright ignore what is regarded as the most utilitarian and reliable pistol ever made? And that is not an opinion, there is evidence to prove it, so if you say otherwise you are unarguably being delusional. If you are against glock you either have the hands of a little girl or have the insecurity of a little girl.
>>
>>28437605
Sounds like you described a M1911 :^)
>>
>>28437510
> they are boring
How old are you? 5 years old? Does it need to light up and have whistles for for your simple mind to enjoy.

Boring yes, boringly simple and boringly reliable, it's a fucking gun, that's exactly what anyone should want in a gun.
>>
>>28436219
>poorfags
>buying overpriced guns

There are many polymer frame offerings that are equally as reliable as Glocks, but that cost much less

Not a big fan of plastic guns in general, but I do recognize their utility for women and others who struggle with the weight of a steel frame

>>28437841
They can be found, they're pricey, and magazines run for like a hundred bux or more, but they're mad fun.

The mags are double-stack, dual feed, like a subgun or assaultrifle mag, so you just press rounds straight down and it's like no wear on your thumbs at all.

I figure Rogak mags could fit, but like the Rogak itself, they're probably not any good.

>>28438504
Maybe he wants a gun that's fun to shoot.

I probably wouldn't have great use of a Beretta 81, but it's likely very fun to shoot.

They're the AK of handguns.

They're simple to use (no hammers, external safeties, decockers, etc. to learn how to use), accurate enough, can take a good deal of neglect, any idiot can be taught to field strip and clean it, and most of the service models carry quite a few rounds.

Are there handguns that do things better? Absolutely. But Glocks do everything averagely enough to get by, while still remaining easy enough to use for most 100ish IQ individuals to wield it with at least some effectiveness.
