Your opinion on pistol lights for home defense or offensive applicaitons?

Anyone have any experience specifically with Aim Sports lights like in pic related?
>>
I would want one if I were using a handgun for applications like that (HD, duty, etc.)
But I would probably just pony up for an X300 or TLR or something along those lines
>>
>>28423820
Don't buy shitty cheap shit.

You can buy either the Streamlight TLR-1 starting from 100 dollars, brand new from Amazon of all places, or splurge on the Surefire X300 for 269.99.

These are literally the best pistol lights on the market and they are available at good prices. Both lights can be adapted for carbine/rifle use, as well as have replacement parts to make it compatible with pressure switches if you need to go even more gucci on a rifle.

These are your two options. Period.
>>
>>28423820
Have been known to case frame flex issues in polymer guns. Keep your light off your gun.

if you ever want a fucking holster thats not a onesize fits most pile of crap you will regret not buying a surefire/streamlight
then again you bought a polymer cz so you were fucked on holster choice to begin with

my experience with cheap lights was buying pic related i think it was leapers for 30 bucks then have it start flickering and die in less than 100 rounds of 9mm
the on off switch was in a shitty location too you could turn it on 1handed by pushing the button with your finger but youd need your other hand to turn it off cause you couldnt reach the other side
>>
>>28424091
>100 dollars is a "ton of money"

I don't know how else to put this, but if that is too much money then you literally can not afford to shoot whatever its going on.

We are going to ignore the shit reviews on OPs light, as well as the horrible switching methodology that makes the flashlight literally useless.

If Surefire is the Lambourgini of Flashlights, Streamlight is the Lexus. And they are selling it brand new for the same price as the 87 Ford Pony that's missing the steering wheel.

There is no debate. This is not up for discussion. It's Streamlight, Surefire or bust. They are economically priced, trusted by LEO and MIL, and 99% of the industry making things for guns assumes you are using one of these two lights.

There are exceptions that can be made for exceptional accessories, but all those that would be exempted cost more than the Streamlight.
>>
I have a question about the Streamlight 69260 TLR-1 HL and Surefire X300 Ultra, if price weren't an issue which one should I go for? I read that the surefire uses plastic wheras the streamlight does not. Also does the surefire have the strobe feature? I have a glock19 gen4
>>
>>28423820
I had that exact light on my Springfield XD for two and a half years. Never took it off when I went to the range and it never had a problem from the recoil. Changed the battery twice in that timespan which seemed reasonable to me.

I got tired of it being my only weapon light that didn't take CR123's, literally the only reason I replaced it. I used it as an excuse to get something brighter, and I am now using an Aimkon HiLight P10s 400 lumen light. Yes, another cheap POS light. If it ever fails, though, I would have no qualms about going back to the OP light. That little guy is a tank.

Eh I had a tlr3 that kicked the bucket, I sent it to stream light and they sent me a new one free.
>THAT LIFETIME WARRANTY.

also have the tlr1 that hasn't failed on me yet.
>>
>>28423820
My opinion on pistol lights is, use an off gun flashlight. 99.999% of things that go bump in the night are things you dont want to shoot. Pets, kids, spouses. The last thing you want to do is have your pistol traineed on your little girl trying to get a cookie. When your dog brushes your leg and spooks you.
>>
>>28423820
For a dedicated home gun it's probably the single best thing. Spend a little extra and get a decent one, Tlr-1 is pretty much the minimum. Make sure you put it in and go test it at the range, it will affect handling and what not. The 30 dollar crapola ones work as lights but if you actually want to fire the gun with it attached not so much. Cheaper isn't savings if you buy 30 bucks worth of garbage.

I don't want to make a new thread and force a weapons-related thread off the board, so I will ask here:

I need a bright pocket-sized flashlight for night use. The most I want to pay is $80, and something put together that will last me awhile. Any suggestions from people who own these types of flashlights?
>>
>>28424782
>an off gun flashlight
What's that?
>>
>>28424782
>When your dog brushes your leg and spooks you.

Wow, if you're this tweaked, you have no business having a gun for self defense.
You need to work on trigger control.

A TRL-HL can light a whole room, you don't need to point it to see a shoot/no shoot.

We train by flashing the room, persistence of vision will allow you to see if there is a threat.
>>
>>28424838
Surefire
How much is your life worth?

I need a light with as close as 100% reliability as I can get.
>>
>>28424841
Yeah, this completely. That's meth-levels of jumpy.
>>
>>28424871
I'm not looking for a house-clearing flashlight or a self defense usage light. I need something for outdoors night use to round up animals, quick bright peeks for cougars, and to find my way through the dark for 10 minute bursts a few times a week.
>>
>>28424895

I had several Fenix lights, they've all been good.

Any decent name brand light should be suitable, its the mounting and holster support that makes the difference for weapons in my opinion. Since you're not doing that your options open up a lot.
>>
>>28424959
Fenix? Never heard of it before. I'll check them out and see what turns up. Thanks
>>
>>28424248
Behold, fear buying at its very best! Don't buy X because it might not be as good as something 30x more dollars! You can't put a price on safety after all!

Same stupid thinking that perpetuates shit like the the TSA. 'It's worth our dignity and personal freedoms to be safer!'

ass.
>>
>>28424841
>>28424875
Way to completely miss the point he was trying to make.

Do you literally fail to see how being able to point a light, but not a gun, at something might be useful in a bump-in-the-night scenario?

A weapon light could be an asset, but in my opinion it doesn't preclude the use of a stand-alone flashlight.

I <3 my Viridian X5L. The light is bright (224 lumens), the green laser even brighter (can see it in high light situations). Plus my favorite feature is the different setting options. I always leave it on strobe light with a constant laser. It is very very disorientating.

TLR-1HL $130 it's the best light for the money.

I got a shitty $20 amazon one with a led light and laser, took it to the desert to make sure it wouldn't die after 3 rounds and lo and behold it held up to well over 100 over 2 trips and still works whenever I have to investigate a bump in the night. Also its a full size all steel lol9mm (very low recoil and shock) so ymmv.
