How many rounds of ammunition is typical for a battle loadout?
>>
For the US Military, about 180 cartridges loaded into six magazines.
>>
>>28417180
That seems kind of low, doesn't it?
>>
>>28417151
Minimum for me is 120rds for pretty anything, maximum is a full crate, in my case 1200rds of 7.62x39, but I'm sacrificing substantial amount of other shit like food water and armor, if I'm wearing armor and have 3l of water and some food, I generally carry 500rds.
>>
>>28417247
Now if I'm carrying my valmet m78, I literally can only carry 6 20rd mags for 120rds, and and extra 120rds of ammo in my bag. I'm confident it's enough cause Muh real fucking nato
>>
>>28417245
not if you have a bunch of soldiers firing at once I would guess.
>>
>>28417180

This was required, at least 6 were issued. Most times we carried at least 9 once we actually took contact.

Also not everyone has a m16/m4. SAW gunners in my unit (me) would have to carry 3 drums (600 rds) and A-gunner another 200, 800 total.

Armybros have told me they didn't have to carry that much. I dunno.

I loved the 100 rnd nutsacks.
>>
>>28417245
yeah, i don't know about the US, here you get issued 5 magazines, but you need to acquire/steal at least 5 more. Poor gunner gets 4 200rd belts and gunner's buddy has to carry that again as well as a few magazines.
>>
Depends on what I'm doing.

>hiking with friends, carrying AR15
Two mags since I don't hike in full battle rattle. Alabama summers are a bitch.
One mag in the rifle, top off the mag for 31 rounds. Second is just for insurance, but I'll never need that. Wildlife tends to run off after a couple loud bangs.

>concealed carry
Depends on the pistol I'm carrying.
>1911
I keep three mags on me. 8+1 Powermag in the pistol, two in my belt pouch. So about 24 rounds of .45 ACP.
Sometimes I'll carry one mag of ball ammo, no real reason but to put my OEM 7 round mags to use. Maybe barrier/thick clothing penetration.
>CZ P-07 Duty
16+1, spare mag in my pocket. No magazine pouch for it yet, since I'd have to get a custom one and there's a hefty price and wait time.

And mags for that pistol are on the pricey side at $50 a pop.

If I need more ammo than that, I brought the wrong gun or fucked up somewhere on the way.
>>
>>28417347
Can you bring some from home?
>>
>>28417358
if they are the same as your issued ones but we are changing to pmags this year, so soon it will be mix'n'match
>>
>>28417151
9 or 10 mags
>>
>>28417151
300 rounds for me (10 mags)
>>
All my vet friends said a minimum of 12 mags, all the way up to 18-20. Although most weren't just normal grunts, one was a scout sniper, another was a forward observer, another a combat engineer.
>>
>>28417322
carried 1k saw ammo

no ag

i guess they didnt like me or something.
>>
>>28417151
One man gets the rifle, the other one gets a clip.
>>
Just fucking read FM 3.23-8.

But if tl;dr:
seven magazines worth of rounds is standard.
>>
>>28417180
And we have a POG here.
>>
>>28417954
I have a friend who deployed to A-stan as 11b and he carried 9 mags. I also have a uncle who was in LRRPS and he said he carried 40 of the old 20rd mags kek

Maybe for US tactics, since they've dropped movement part from fire & movement.

When I was doing Nuclear security we carried 90 rounds, including the 1 in the chamber. As the M60A1 assistant I carried a can with 600 rounds plus bolt cutters for an annex down range where there were 5000 additional rounds for the M60.

And please do not regard people who don't know what the hell they are talking about, especially when you can't cite the source.
And btw, people who carry more than six in reserve and 1 in the weapon are retards and they're chain of command needs to get fired for not understanding the importance of a speedball. Unless they're airborne then you're just fucked.

It was 30 years ago in West Germany and it was the absolute shittiest duty you could pull as an MP. 24hours on / 24 hours off. Unrelenting boredom in the most remote locations.

Thanks awfully. One other thing, on a misty, moonlit night do you ever see what looks like dark figures running between trees or fence posts? I do and it creeps the shit out of me.

Sheep herders used to pen sheep for the night in nearby fields. Sheep cough and sneeze and make all kinds of noises just like humans. One night we were on high alert because of a threat from the Baader-Meinhof Group. It was a foggy night and those fucking sheep were about 300 yards out making noise. I wanted so bad to pop off a shot in that direction. I was thoroughly rattled after a night of that shit.

Your back must be broken.

That's insane. At most I carried 800. Was my gunnies policy, not the corps.

That plus my kit weighed me down hella.but I was a lean green skeleton back then.
>>
>>28418891

Also, wtf do you mean no A-gunner.

Army Infantry has fireteams right? No A-gunner you tell thepointman to carry a drum.

No Agunner or pointman, tell your team leader to throw a drum in their daypack.

You are right, I don't think they liked you.
>>
>>28417151
8 25rnd magazines + 6 magazines worth of rounds packed in paper.
>>
>>28417180
Its 210 for riflemen, 400 for gpmg gunners, or 600 for SAW gunners by doctrine.

What actually gets carried is normally 270-300 for riflemen, 500 with squaddies carrying an additional 500 for gpmgs, and 600 with squaddies carrying an additional 1000 for saw gunners. Vehicles are frequently used to store or carry surplus ammo too.
>>
>>28417151
(unit of measurements are in magazines)
>Tactial Espionage Operatin'
Rifle gets 6+1, pistol gets 3+1

>Hiking inna woods
Rifle gets 2+1, pistol gets 2+1, more if low capacity

>Urban expeditions
Pistol gets 1+1, more if low capacity

Shotguns are where things get weird. If I'm just frolicking about in the sticks, I'll carry about three dozen shells of assorted loads. Don't bother with anything more than what's in the tube and on the saddle for home defense.
