How effective (or not) is 25acp?
At what maximum range is it useful for self-defence? If you hit anywhere other than head or heart is it any more effective than a menacing gaze?
What is your experience with the cartridge?
From small barrels it outperforms .22lr.

It's the ultimate cheap plinking/vermin killer cartridge because you can reload the cases with #3 buckshot.

I've got an Astra Colt in .25 and I wouldn't trust my life to it at 7 yards. When I carry it, it's as a BUG in my pocket. The kind of gun you press into someone's ribs and mag dump to get them off you.

I found a Colt like that in a pawn shop once and (dammit dammit dammit) didn't have the dosh to capitalize on it at the time. I've got a bizzare love for mouse guns.
But really, the tactical efficacy of that cartridge in that pistol is probably limited to "surprise motherfucker!!!" after they think you're out of weapons. It's a glorified flash-bang to give you one last chance to get your dumb ass the hell outta there.

I recall a story of a man in a pawn shop being attacked by a man with a katana, and had his primary pistol apart to clean at the time. Got pretty cut up, and realized he had a mouse gun. Grabbed it, pressed it against the guy's eyeball and unloaded. Fell back and started convulsing. Died at the scene.

Of given the choice between nigger dick and .25 acp, Id take the .25.
I have a little .25 that I carry as a backup, but if 13 .45's or 16 9mm's dont do it, .25 acp is probably better served on myself.

The idea that anyone is going to be a threat with 6 quarter-inch holes in center mass is laughable. .25 will do the job
I would be comfortable carrying .25 ACP as a backup.
I've thought about getting a Beretta mouse gun for a while for a backup.
Plus it would be good for a pocket gun since the company I work for isn't okay with carrying on the job, but the place was robbed a few times before I started working there.

This. Don't rely on expanding ammunition. There's not enough velocity. Besides, it wouldn't matter much. Shot placement is the name of the game. Face and center mass shots. If you're really keen groin shots too. You wanna stop the attacker. With .25 its possible, and with the right shots, he may not be able to show up in court.
What about 32 acp?

Treat shooting it the same as .25acp Not enough power for expanding ammunition to work effectively. Instead, shot placement is the name of the game. I'd say it's this way all the way up to .38/.38 special. The only real variance is ammunition capacity, size of the gun, and where you can keep it about your person or nearby.
9mm is where stuff like 9pble and other ammunition types means you don't have to be so absolutely concerned with shot placement so long as you get hits.

The way I see it is like this: If you're far enough away that you need to bother aiming, a .25 is probably not going to get the job done. If you're at point-blank range and won't miss the central nervous system, it's still better than a knife and probably no worse than any other cartridge.
As far as comparing it with other handgun rounds, it's shit.
If you have the choice to either carry a .25 auto or carry nothing, the .25 is the best bet.
Bonus points if you rig it up on a drawer hinge and wear it up your sleeve.
Speaking of which, I'm thinking about getting a mouse gun for deep concealment (places where my Glock 26 won't cut it), and it would be interesting to have a little Colt .25.
A pawn shop about an hour away from me had one last time I was there, but the finish was in pitiful shape and they still wanted like $400 for it.

.25 ammo at the store i work at costs more than the 9mm and the 380. Id rather have a .380 or a 38 special. I dont think id trust my life to anything lower than a .380 and some people dont even feel like the .380 is enough
Knew someone that committed suicide with .25acp. Shot himself in the head, didn't die for a week or two after the shot.

.25 ACP ball ammunition will penetrate 14"-15" when fired from a 2"-2.5" barrel, if you can place your shots effectively then it'll get the job done, if you can't place your shots effectively than even .45 ACP +P ammunition wouldn't help you.

.380 is good enough for about 90 percent of the situations you'll find yourself in a self defense situation.

Better the nothing. I read a harrowing story where a guy was being stabbed in his store by some crazy gook with a sword. He emptied his only gun (.25 acp) into the gook's eye. He lived. The gook was took of life support the next day.
