Is the 30-06 sprg obsolete?
Will it still be a popular hunting and target shooting round in 50 years?
>>
>>28406408
does it still go bang and kill things?

>.308 win not doing it just as well and cheaper
>300 win mag not doing it better

It's a nice and versatile round, with lots of reloading potential.
>>
>>28406408

How could it be obsolete? In order for something to be obsolete, the needs to be a wildly better alternative available.
>>
>>28406408
'06 actions will be bigger, and therefore heavier.
It doesnt really provide much of an advantage over .308, some, but not much.

For awhile now it hasnt been a target round

Hunting, yeah. Its gonna taper as the old school fudds die off.

Obsolete?
As a combat cartridge yeah.
>>
In 50 years we will be shooting lasers. No more recoil fags
>>

No. There are still plenty of bolt action and semi auto rifles chambered in it. Modern loadings of the cartridge can approach the low end of magnum rifle performance.

Obsolete/obsolecent is when a cartridge and the firearms that use it are no longer produced regularly.

.44 Rimfire is obsolete. No new guns are being made for the cartridge and the cartridge is not in regular production.

.45 Colt is not obsolete, despite being over 140 years old. Firearms, both revolvers and carbine rifles, are being produced for it and the cartridge is in regular production in wide variety of loadings.

a strong enough laser would have recoil.
>>
30-06 May taper in popularity and decrease in availability but I'm 100% sure that confiscation will take place long before it would ever "die" as a cartridge

On a real note, 30-06 can be loaded to fire much hotter than .308, as it has far more case room to do so. If you just buy AE from the local basspros this might not be important to you, but if you reload yourself this is relevant. It means you can not only load the case to fire hotter loads, but can also use that hotter load to fire heavier bullets.
>>
308 306 303 will all be obsolete eventually, just not in 100 years

they will all be replaced with .26 or .28
>>
.30-06 has fucking hot 220gr loads available in factory loadings. .30-06 is basically the hottest you can go without magnum cartridges

It's a great round. I like to hit steel with energy. 30-06, 8mm Mauser, 7.62x54r are three sweet rounds to pack a hard punch with.
That said 5.56 fags shoot a gay little 55gr .22 round and pee sitting down.
