Best for innaswamp.
Look into "treeboat" style square frame bucket hammock tents, not a sling with a rainfly. Recreational treeclimbing tents are nice.
A tarp and a hammock. It's a lot lighter than carrying a tent + gear

Sup. Louisiana bro here. I was in the Boy Scouts for 4 years. I went camping every month for 4 years, never missed a campout. If anyone here tells you that a tent is waterproof, that's how you know they're one lying SOB. There are no waterproof tents. Any "tent" that is waterproof is no longer a tent. Just get the cheapest 2 person nylon tent you can find. That should be good enough for 95% of what you need a tent for. You really don't need a sleeping bag either. A good thin sleeping pad and a light blanket will be adequate for 99% of your sleeping conditions in a tent in Louisiana. Unless you're anywhere near an actual swamp. Then you'll have to deal with the mutant biting horseflies. Your number one most important camping tool/item will be your bug repellents.

nice.
I'd prolly go with a big tarp for rain and a mosquito net with a bathtub floor for bugs.
