Dad has happened into a lot of old ammo over the years and he gave me a few boxes of 7.62x51 from Korea and Vietnam.
Does /k/ think it will actually chamber, fire, and extract?
I dunno but it might be worth selling and buying new 7.62x51 with.
Or not, I dunno, but I bet you can find a collector wanting it.

I've got an austrian m95 and I found some crusty ammo with it. I'm probably not going to shoot it since there's some corrosion on the primers.

So long as it's not overly corroded it'll be fine. Check the primers and be sure the bullets are still seated securely. I've shot 1933 made .303 surplus which was heavily tarnished and it worked fine.

Not as old as yours but my uncle who is the definition of nogunz gifted me this stuff from when he lived on the family farm in the late 70's and it has shot fine in my Remington 597.
What are the chances of the powder "expiring" or losing its potency?

Milsurp is supposed to have a long shelf life Unless it got wet for a long time.

Depends entirely on the powder.
Blackpowder absorbs water and then the saltpeter migrates when it dries leading to squibs. Cordite sweats nitroglycerin and gets more reactive. Some nitrocellulose powders will mechanically break down and kaboom while others self catalyse their own decomposition and can catch fire when in large amounts.

the powder? very low to non existent, the primers will go eventually though. berdan last longer than boxer but stored in a stable climate good boxer primed stuff should last a hundred years with only a few duds.
