Why don't we have bipedal vehicles in real life yet?
Because treads and rotary wing aviation do the same job better.
>blow off legs
>it becomes immobile
there isnt really a point to it unless you can armor it up really well and have some active countermeasures
Id see armored suits like powered armor rather than large mecha or bipedal tank things being used
>>28390219
wheels=better
Glad the franchise is dead.
>Much harder to travers rough terrain
>Fall over = +1 ton (possibly) vehicle made useless
>>28390219
>Why don't we have bipedal vehicles in real life yet?
because it'll cost like 1000x as much because it's stupidly complicated for a job wheels will do far better anyway
it's an idea that only belongs in fiction, or maybe some special purpose IRL that probably wouldn't have anything to do with military
>>28390625
I could see massive bipedal walkers used in construction
>>28390250
no they are not, metal gear is literally superior in every way to modern shit that we use today
>>28390246
>blow off wheels
>it becomes immobile
>>28391279
>fictional doodad literally superior
sure anon, whatever you say. When was the last time you washed that body pillow you carry around with you?
physics aren't magic
dirt can only take so much weight
Moving parts always will wear out
etc
>>28390219
why would you want one? bi/quadrapedal movement is not very usefull. the most use weve found for it is that mule thing that i dont think they even use for more than promotional videos of people kicking it and it staying upright
Kojima, get a fucking job and stop posting on /k/.
>>28390219
First /k/ mecha thread on of the year. Well done.
>>28390219
Normal vehicles:
>Axis+wheel+rotation
>The oldest and simplest way of movement
>If you're /out/side and need to transport anything heavy and you have some super basic tools like a saw, axe, etc. you can build a shitty little cart out of wood and push the cart
Muh cool legged stuff:
>Many joints, actuators, sensors, a computer to monitor all of that.
>Overly complicated, expensive
>Higher chances of malfunctions, more moving parts more things to brake.
>Unstable, bipedal creatures have to put effort into standing straight, center of mass so high above ground.
Hard to transport, car brakes - get another car and tow it, bipedal thing brakes - get a truck and spend so much time and energy to drag that thing into the truck.
I know it looks cool in games and movies, but it's not practical irl.
>>28391268
I guess I can see bipedal vehicles in construction as well, but again it comes down to the fact that trucks & cranes etc do the job just fine.
>>28391625
>Those fucking faces
My eternal enemies..
>>28391765
well yes but why have numerous small vehicles in this case when you could just combine it all into one?
>>28391268
>>28391765
They still probably wouldn't be bipedal, they'd probably be 4-8 legged to keep balance on some very awkward and uneven areas.
>>28390219
we're still perfecting 4-legged technology, but it's pretty polished. see boston dynamics.
2-legged vehicles are far more difficult to deal with from a balance standpoint, and are understandably more complicated and really only shine on complicated terrain, but aren't as good as 4-legged vehicles on such terrain.
On smooth terrain wheels are more efficient, can handle larger loads, and provide smoother rides.
tl;dr they're useless crossovers

Not quite

If bipeds are so great, why did Kojima get fucking fired after making half a game?
>>28391841
Because its a bad idea to put all your eggs in one basket.
>>28390266
Except for pachinko machines.
>>28391972
Because Hideo played Kojima like a damn fiddle, that's why.

>bipedal vehicles take off

how about we just not.

I thought they were losing money. The robotic healthcare market isn't what people made it out to be.
>>28392630
Boston Dynamics already has prototype 6 legged robots. They're in early development working out balancing issues.

Really? How'd they manage to lose the contract?

I could see 4 legged walkers like Star Wars AT-ATs or AT-TEs, but biped mechs would have too much trouble with balance and rough terrain. That said, AT-AT style walkers are still like 50 years off from being feasible in combat
>>28393561
I don't want to turn this into yet another mech thread, but AT-ATs or AT-TEs are never happening.
