That is actually a completely valid long arm defence - if it wasn't completely fucked up.

No it really wasn't.
I'm a qualified G3.
The body never went off centreline.
They never checked passively.
There was no control or effort to keep the weapon off them and to get past the muzzle.
When performing this disarm, groin strikes are not ideal, due to how close you need to be to do it safely. Use the weapon as a lever for an elbow strike.

In the Army we practiced going from a sprint into prone. You dive forward, take the impact on the butt of your rifle and sort of fall into a prone shooting stance and the rifle does a lot of the work.
Anyways, it can be pretty difficult to pull of smoothly and we had a soldier knock 10 of hiss teeth out on the top rail of his M16. Now going from running to prone smoothly and being able to fire right after is pretty fucking important, perhaps you could argue dropping to a knee is worth what little time you lose for a more stable shooting position, but youre still a big target.

I agree, but you have to understand the sheer multitude of these "schools" out there that are straight up lying to people and training them in only how to get themselves killed.
I was shooting the shit with a guy at a party when I found out he considered himself to be a fully qualified Krav Maga instructor.
Turns out he had maybe ten lessons from a guy who took three lessons from the guy who trained me.
I pulled over from the dark side and he started training with us - he had no situational awareness, he had no idea even how to strike properly and some of the shit he absorbed was fucking ludicrous.
The con-artist that took him for a ride taught him a pistol dis-arm that involved putting the web of your hand in-between the hammer and the slide.
The worst part is this con-artist runs about 15 classes on different martial arts all under the same idea - a week's worth of training, maybe reading a couple of things online and then he's teaching people to defend themselves.
Apparently he's actually contracted to train police.
