Is the 6.5 Creedmoor a meme round?

And on another question, does anyone think it'd make a good combat round?

Pic unrelated.
>>
>>28384569
What do you mean by meme round?
>>
>>28384601
I mean is the "cool" factor of it (extreme accuracy out to long ranges, etc...) More memetic than factual?

What is the advantage over something like 6.5x55?
>>
>>28384748
do you really expect an apple user to give you good points on anything?
>>
>>28384569
No, it's a pretty fantastic round that can get people into long range without having to handload
>>
>>28384777
And if I wanted to get into long AND handload, what would be the best option from a materials availability standpoint?
>>
>>28384569
Its a legitimately excellent round that has affordable factory match ammo and works excellently in mag fed rifles.

Its also a fine hunting round capable of everything in the northern hemisphere while having mild recoil and excellent accuracy with factory hunting loads.
>>
>>28384692
The ballistic tables arent lies.
>>
>>28384787
6.5x47lapua. Nearly identical capability to 6.5cm, slightly better case design from a pure accuracy standpoint, wholly supported by the #1 name in accuracy. Its only detriment is it doesnt play as nice in semis.
>>
>>28384855
Thats a pretty big detriment.

Im waiting for the AMR to release the .264 USA.
>>
>>28384875
It would be better in 6mm
>>
>>28384875
It still works, dont get me wrong. But with its typically high pressures and small flash holes it tends to require some work to the gun if you want to run it hot enough to compete with factory 6.5cm (the creed has slightly higher case capacity and a slightly lower operating pressure, through a boltgun theyre roughly equal mv with 140s).
>>
>>28384569
6.5CM is a legitimate round. With a little training and decent ammunition, you can repeatably hit steel from 1000m
>>
>>28384919
Creedmoor has all of 50fps at the muzzle more.
The lapua is great in a bolt gun, but its not revolutionary enough to get much notice.

The creedmoor plays nicer with .308 magazines, so its going to get the attention.
>>
>>28384787
As a handloader I'd say 6.5 or 6mm x47
Whichever you prefer. Targets I like 6.5 but hunting is all about 7mm
>>
>>28384949
To me the CM seems to be more widely available in stores, maybe cause gas guns are getting pretty popular in it.
Like I said, if you don't reload CM is the way to go, if you reload get a 6xc,6cm, 7saum or whatever.
I like the x47,its easy on brass, tons of nodes for working up loads and just an accurate cartridge
>>
>>28384981
Even if you reload, the creedmoor has a lot going for it. If your using a semi auto.

In a bolt gun, nah, better options out there.
>>
>>28384949
The lapua works just fine in semis. You just have to establish a tighter than normal fit between firing pin and bolt face (either by fitting an oversize firing pin or installing a bushing). You have to do this in 6.5lap boltguns too though, otherwise you have to run them at a lower pressure and give up even more velocity to the creedmoor.

From a strictly target perspective, I prefer .243 Ackley for boltguns (the 40* shoulder means it doesnt feed reliably), and 6XC for semis. The .243ai with 115gr DTACs exhibits significantly less wind drift than any of the "target" 6.5s and only loses to the monstrously recoiling .26 Nosler.
>>
>>28385002
6mm bergers are pretty sweet.

The lapua may work well in semis. A slightly short OAL shouldnt matter too much. Does anyone make an AR10 barrel in the lapua?

Ive kind of wanted a .26 nosler the way I wanted a 7mm STW or 7mm lazzeroni.
>>
>>28385060
Yeah a couple people make 6.5lap lr308/ar10 barrels. I shoot a BHW myself in 6.5cm, they also do 6.5lap and pretty much anything else you can cram in the action.
>>
>>28385098
I got a Noveske CM barrel.
I go back and forth if I want to try out BHW. Heard both good and bad.
>>
>>28385060
You dont want a .26 nosler. Thing recoils worse than .325wsm and has a barrel life of 700ish rounds.
>>
>>28384569
i wish XKCD was still funny
>>
>>28385122
Pretty happy with mine. Its no high end cut rifled Krieger/Brux/Bartlein, but the polygonal rifling typically buys you 150-200fps compared to traditional rifling.
>>
>>28385132
Better than the 300-500 you get with the 7mms I mentioned.
>>
>>28384569
No, it's breddy gud.

"STEEL" IS NOT A TARGET SIZE NIGGER
>>
>>28385161
I hear you.
Most of the complaints have been against nonspec reamers.
ARs have become boring as shit to me honestly. I have an AR10 with the noveske creedmoor barrel because its silly expensive to do in another semi auto. Id be interested in a SCAR 16s in a 6mm Tomahawk/BR/-6.8/grendel, mostly because of the rather good work that BHW did.

>>28385202
How good the creedmoor will do at range depends on how tight the loose nut behind the trigger is.
>>
>>28385163
Yeah well just about everything has better barrel life then the various 7mm short mags.
>mfw original load data for the .26 nosler called for 113gr of Retumbo
Turned out to be a bit too stout, but jesus christ.
>>
>>28385229
Really? They literally have all over every page on their site that they use super tight match reamers and/or custom dimensions on their reamers because they can empirically prove theyre more accurate. If you want a saami spec chamber you have to request it.

Sounds like stupid buyers to me.
>>
>>28385238
http://lazzeroni.com/ct_reload_firebird.htm

3500fps at the muzzle, short magnum it is not. And thats with the heavier bullets.
>>
>>28385286
The one I remember it being a thing was with the .458 socom. Thats the only caliber ive heard that with.
>>
>>28384569
Is it bad that I kinda want something in 6.5 Creedmoor partially because I work in Creedmoor, NC?
>>
>>28385299
Ooh the lazzeroni. Yeah.

I was thinking the rsaum and wsm, theyre barrel burners but they cant be as bad as a Lazzeroni.
>>
>>28385310
I remember that now that you mention it.

Iirc they got their reamers straight from Teppo Jutsu, the group that invented the caliber, and just got a bad batch of reamers. They also offered either replacement or refund no questions asked.
>>
>>28384569
>Is the 6.5 Creedmoor a meme round?

Unfortunately yes. It actually would be a great round if it was widely adopted. If only.
>>
What about the creed as an alternative in combat? Like, logistics or issuing 6.5 CM to everyone or rebarreling all the .308 dmrs aside, what would be the actual effectiveness in combat.
>>
>>28384569
6.5 Grendel best round
>>
>>28386437
I actually am interested in the 6.5 Grendel, would it make sense to replace 5.56 NATO with 6.5 Grendel?
>>
>>28386475
If they want a bolt life in the hundreds of rounds on the m4
