I saw the catalog had a thread on this topic, but im pretty shocked.
>Walked into scheels today. >Looking at guns
> notice a pretty decent line
>ask an older fudd what's going on
> haven't you heard? They got a shipment of the new ruger Americans.
> and?
> and I can't wait to get my hands on one.
> oh

Whole line was there for the rugers. One guy was throwing a fit because I guess it's not in 40. Are these really that great?
>>
>>28376074
Rugerfags are worse than glockfags

Theyre just as stuck in their ways, but Ruger guns are actually reasonably priced and there's no equivalent to the glocknade to trigger them with
>>
ruger is most well know for using superior manufacturing tecniques to copy great guns and sell them cheaper. every one loves a bargain especially americans.

copy a glock and name it the american. it's like the perfect storm.

Ask me how I know why you don't own any guns?
>>
>proudly made IN DA YOU ESS AYY shtick

nah fuck off.
>>
I'm not excited about them, they don't bring anything exceptional to the table, it's just an evolution of the P-series. If people are salivating, the best explanation I can offer is that they are brand-loyal.

>>28376112
They might be selling to the same market, but there is no "copying" going on.
>>
>>28376074

I'm a huge Ruger fanboy but have no desire to own one of these. There are so many options in the striker fired polymer framed market these days the only thing that could make it stand out is being super cheap.
>>
>>28376254
I am quite curious about this gun, mainly because with the information available now there's nothing distinguishing it from the SR-Series.
>>
The wrap around pistol grip is pretty cool. That's going to be great for the aftermarket. Also, ambidextrous is always encouraged.

Honestly can't find anything bad to say about Ruger. Hope someone puts up a torture test on the you tubes

I have a feeling that all of these recent Ruger threads are being made by one person who gets paid in Hotpockets to post about how great the new gun is.
>>
>>28376343
Its not everyday a new gun model comes out from the big manufacturers so I wouldn't call shill so quickly.

It looks nice and might BE nice, but the market's oversaturated with Glocks and 1911s. Until we get another wave of expired patents from H&K and/or Glock, handguns won't really be going anywhere.

I think I'd just save for something ubiquitous if I were you.

>One guy was throwing a fit because I guess it's not in 40
does this actually surprise people? it's time to retire 40
>>
>>28378157
Now we have to guess what XY and Z are... Also their graph makes it look like there is a more inconsistent creep with their trigger than the others...
Y: XD with their garbage rolling break point
Z: M&P with the light distance to safety plunger, build up when depressing plunger, and sharp clean break because it requires no more load
X: glock because plunger load from the get go, then increasing weight as the striker draws back with a pretty clean break...
>>
>>28378193

Is the 9e worth looking into?
>>
>>28378282
Yes. I have the 9e and sr9c. The slide serrations on the sr9c are kind of sharp and can get annoying if you're shooting for hours. Plus I like the look of the wider ones on the 9e. 9e also lacks loaded chamber indicator that drives most people mad.
>>
>>28376320
No
>>
>>28376074
Seems like a perfectly alright pistol. Already have an M&P though, which does the exact same things.
Kinda like it's lines.

>>28376254
Yeah, I'm a sucker for Ruger, but eh. Might try one some day though.

>>28376283
The SR9 has like a billion safeties, this one just has a safety trigger, like a Glock or M&P. I'm suspecting the boardroom at Ruger said "Fuck off for a little, GOD!" to their legal guys to get this made.

>>28376313
It's basically a Glock clone, that's REALLY hard to fuck up. Still, I'd wait.
>>
Someone said that there will be a 40, or at least a conversion kit, but after seeing that ruger didn't make a 40e, I don't see it happening...
>>
>>28376320
17+1 in 9mm Luger, same as a Glock 17 and M&P 9, makes it contemporary, unlike the VP9s measly 15+1

>>28376322
They're a bit on the pricey side with their products, and I want them to give the Ruger American treatment to the Mini-14 and make it take AR mags, but yeah, Ruger are pretty cool.
Bill was a clever designer, but he was honestly holding the company back.

>>28376783
Because it's almost 2016 and Bill Ruger is dead since long, stop harping on his sins, they make great guns.
>>
>>28378282
I got one for christmas. Put about 250 rounds of UMC and 25 rds of Tula and I havent had a problem. Its pretty accurate and has a great trigger.
>>
>>28376110
How does that make them worse? Literally how?
>>
>>28378157
Handled one in store today, trigger pull was short and in the 8-10 lb range. The grip angle was a copy of the PPX with the awkward hunchback, and the entire time I was wishing I was holding an SR9 instead.
>>
>>28378193
for the price range*

The Ruger American Pistol was selling at a higher price in the local funstore than the p320 or gen 3 glocks
>>
>>28379356
Can you post a pic? It looks like in OPs pic there's a big hump in THE way of the mag release which makes no sense to me.

>>

>>
On the fence about whether or not to go try one out today. I don't own a .45 yet, and I feel that my first one should really be a 1911. What do, /k/?
>>
Why not just make an SR9 without a safety?
>>
>>28379750
Get the P320 instead, it's already been tested and the trigger and grip are much better.
>>
It looks like a jacked up amalgamation of modern polymer pistols with ruger stamped on it
>>
that mag button looks tiny
>>
>>28379815

That is a pretty sexy beast.
>>
>>28379777
This one was engineered for mil/LE contracts in mind, which means the design itself will probably be more reliable than SR9. SR9 will still be there for the 300 dollar poorfags, and it also has a negative stigma in the market because of the safeties.
>>
>>28378157
A lot of inconsistent grit in the takeup of the Ruger trigger. Whatever brand Z is may travel a lot longer but that uptake is a nice, smooth ride.

Almost.

>>
>>28382120
I'll keep those two things in mind. I knew my trigger control was shit and my sight pictures were bad too it seems. Thanks for the pic
>>
>>28382267
>I knew my trigger control was shit
A great way to practice that is by dry firing, triple check that your gun is unloaded beforehand then make sure to pull the trigger straight back so the sights don't move when the trigger breaks.
>>
>>28382267
Start with an old coffee can from about fifteen feet away. Every time you hit it your nervous system lights up with the BANG TING FLYING CAN YAHOO feedback. YAY! I DID THAT RIGHT! I KNOW HOW THAT FEELS FUCK YEAH! MOAR! Then you do it again. And again, as it bounces further mostly-away. Once you can hit it with the entire mag, you start out throwing it farther away.

Don't be embarrassed. Start with a reactive target, and start out almost on top of it.
>>
>>28382315
This

Shoot actual targets and not just paper
>>
>>28382120

>mfw I thought the front sight was supposed to be over the center of the target

>>
>>28376129
Fuck you buddy.
American made equals made with environmental regulations, like how Glock had to change when they came to America because of their cyanide bullshit. American made is American jobs and it keeps the research and development from growing elsewhere as that usually follows production.
I hope you're Malaysian you piece of poo.
10/10 I mad.
Gonna buy one now just to spite you and post it everyday on here.
>>
>>28382359
It is usually, the top of the front sight aligned with center of the target.
>>28382120
This picture should have you hitting the bottom of the big circle which is a miss in my book.
>>
>>28376110
Say you want a trigger pull that can be used by your grandmother. That gets em
>>
>>28380527
It's 2016 now.

>>28380534
.40 is actually kind of nice if it's a +P load with a heavier projectile, but otherwise it isn't doing anything the 9mm can't already do with bigger mags and less recoil.

>>28382198
>still angry about Bill
>over a decade later

EBIN ::::DDD

>>28382398
That's an interesting tip I hadn't heard before.
>>
>>28376343
Thats actually a pretty sweet deal, depending on how many hotpockets we're talking about. If it's 1 hotpocket per 10 words, you could be rolling in free heatemup food forever just off of 100 ad-drops of the same copy/pasted prewrote 4 paragraph ad.
>>
>>28382927
There is nothing wrong with cyanide salt bath nitrocarburizing unless you are dumping waste in a river or something. Products are made in the u.s.a. all the time that have been finished that way.

I have also never heard of glawk needing to change anything so they could import into the states. Do you have a sauce or link.
>>
>>28380201
What? Please explain how this polymer framed striker fired pistol is going to be "engineered to be more reliable" than it's existing counterpart? Reliability is not a known issue on the SR9, SR9C or SR9E. I get the impression you're young...
>>
>>28387368
Officially no bit the story is the epa doesn't allow for use of cyanide in the manner of the original formula and so it can't be applied inside the states.
http://www.finishing.com/324/69.shtml
>>
>>28376783
Thiiiiiiis.

The SR-9 was shit, the 10/22 is ass, and thus why would this be good.
>>
>>28388537
0/10
>>
>>28387411
It states that it was made for sustained +P usage, unlike the sr9 or 9e. Im guessing that's what they mean by more reliable.
>>
>>28382315
This is fucking terrible advice. A bullet will go straight through a coffee can without even making it twitch. If the can moves it's because you hit the dirt in front of it and the dirt that got tossed up from the bullet splash pushed the can. This will teach you to shoot low. Reactive targets are good for training but they have to be targets that actually react. Bowling pins are best.
>>
>>28389192
This is bullshit. I shoot coffee cans a couple of times a month and they bounce like a mother fucker.
>>
>>28389192
How about those rubber ball/cube targets that you can get for about $30? They'll last a lot longer than a coffee can too.
>>
>>28389238
They are bouncing from the dirt. Set a can on top of a fence post and shoot it. The bullet will go straight through without moving the can.
>>
>>28389254
Those have worked pretty well for me but .22 gets stuck inside them and I was once hit by a ricochet from a .22 that struck another .22 bullet. They work decent for pistol targets but bowling pins still work best for me.
>>
>>28389279
Yeah, maybe not for .22lr, but having shot both those balls and bowling pins, the balls have lasted much longer.
>>
>>28388601
>I disagree, therefore it's bait

>>
>>28389295
Post some legitimate criticism or shut the fuck up.
>>
>>28389291
Sure, but you can get old pins for super cheap and I like how they react to hits better than the rubber balls. It's just preference.
>>
>>28389312
Well then, you want me to post the experience I had firing it?
Sure.

Trigger worse than a Glock
Heavy recoil spring and shit grip surface
Somehow stripped two rounds off, jamming one into the bottom of the feed ramp, which, coupled with the heavy spring made it a pain in the ass to fix.
Shit Ergos, sights, and did I mention a worse trigger than a Glock?
It IS however better than an XDs.

I can't comment on groups though
>>
>>28389262
Maybe if you are using a rife. But shooting them with .45 they do bounce. I shoot 20 competitions a year, so I am positive im not missing. You're just fucking retarded.
>>
>>28389254

>>
But really though, I can't wait for the .40 version.
>>
>>28376110
