Whats the most effective SHTF firearm someone in Northern NJ in the mountains can own? Basically the only requirements are 15 rounds, fixed stock, and no flash hider or silencer.
.308 or 5.56? 16, 18, or 20 inch barrel? Any accessories besides an optic? What optic and what magnification? Are 2 stage flip up magnification optics preferred?

I'd say an SKS or a 12 gauge. If you have property up in those hills, both. Maybe even a fudd .308 for further hunting. Don't plan on just running out into those hills though if you don't have property. Others already do, and you can imagine a LOT of other people will have the same idea as you.
In the end, if you actually believe in le habbening, do you think the ATF is gonna even be able to find out you have a some AR sporting rifle?
