I'm waiting on a pistol to arrive that I intend to put one on. What's a good dot size for a pistol mounted dot that won't be mounted directly to the slide? I want to shoot steel challenge with it so I want to be able to pick up and track the dot easily, but ideally I'd like some precision out of it because it will be used for target shooting to some extent as well. Is 6 MOA a good middle ground?

I see it as more of a tactical gimmick. I've seen people do crazy good shooting with just irons so those red dots seem like they're more of a crutch for poor shooting. For the money I spend on one of those I could get a lot of ammo and range time in. I still think they're cool though and wouldn't mind one to try out and use on my bedside gun because shit eyesight.

I shoot competition every Monday evening and red dots and scopes are banned. I've still thought about putting a red dot on my FNS-9 and just using my Model 10 exclusively. My best scores are with the model 10 anyway.

They work fine for trunk gun give you 2 extra mag for your rifle and pistol. Give you enough ammo to fight your way to more ammo.
