No, we don't like the NRA because they're fucking cringeworthy autists

That said they are a pretty decent organization for legislative action, so I donate to them as well as the GOA
>>
NRA is full of shit and makes us look like even more like giant faggots. The GOA is better.
>>
Most of the hate is due to people confusing the National Rifle Association for the National Recovery Agency. The National Recovery Agency had something to due with the 1934 NFA. Also the NRA was in favor of import bans.

It has to do with guns because, in case you didn't notice, it's the fucking leftists trying their hardest to strip us of all gun rights. This is in addition of course to everything else they do that makes them fucking terrible.

The fact that groups like the GOA and the NRA aren't more widely focused on opposing leftists is actually kind of a problem. We need to be building coalitions against these fucking animals, not agonizing over alienating the tiny minority of leftists who actually are members of these organizations.

>Pretty sure that's the Republicans m8

With the exceptions of Ron Paul and Donald Trump, the GOP is filled with neoconservative (read, leftist-but-with-more-Israeli-cocksucking), spineless cucks who have no principles whatsoever but merely shadow whatever Democrats were 20 years ago in perpetuity.

Leftists are driving western civilization straight off of a fucking cliff and when they aren't helping them push down the gas pedals, the GOP is ineffectually going "Umm... p.. please sir stop doing that. N.. noo sir I would rather we stopped going down this path..."
>>
>>28338452
As much as i'm disappointed in the NRA for helping pass the NFA, GCA of '68, may have had a hand in getting the Hughes Amendment into the FOPA or '86, and supporting the Brady Act, they have been tremendous help in keeping our 2nd amendment right and even getting the supreme court to rule that the 2nd is a individual right.

Unlike the GOA, who they constantly make fun of and fight the NRA and just are completely ineffective.
>>

Not everyone who is liberal supports gun control, but I bet most liberals who find themselves in that position probably vote democrat anyway.

I was raised in a family that is religious; both of my parents probably voted democrat since Clinton; and we owned a few guns and always supported the 2nd amendment.

The old man's a bit of a fudd though. I actually got into an argument about magazine capacity with him and while we both agreed that laws decided to limit magazine capacity are bullshit, he actually defended the logic behind them. I couldn't fucking even.

All religion has been a tool to control populations. You do something not because the government/leaders/elder tells you, but because God tells you.

> All the rules of Kosher/Kashrut/Halal were just to keep the idiot peasants from killing themselves from food poisoning.

However, whether one buys into the belief or not, when populations start walking away from the moral rules set forth in religion, society starts becoming self destructive.

Even more so when we start to abandon the kind of rights outlined in the US Constitution, or use interpretation of law to deprive others of their rights.

If the NRA acted more like Feinstein in actively pushing for legislation to loosen gun laws, and repealing the NFA, I'd be willing to send them some of my shackles. They've been too reactionary. They need to be more activist.

Also, every time someone like Feinstein submits a new gun control bill, the NRA needs to tweet it with the text "Fuck Off You Old Hag/Limp Dick" They need to start responding with this level of vitriol to earn my respect.

I'm the same, but I'm not from Texas.

Socially liberal, non-religious, but pro-gun.

The 2nd Amendment guarantees the right for a citizen to own a gun. Gun control infringes on that right, and would likely be a slippery slope.

That's just how I see it.

Don't try to reclaim the label "liberal" from the democrats. Tracing it's usage to more respectable people in different eras don't gain us anything. Most useful idiots think Donald Trump wants to deport all Muslims and Hispanics regardless of citizenship and genuinely think the Republican party fought for slavery during the civil war.

I don't understand how you can not understand this simple fact. It doesn't matter if that Democrat you voted for is a member of the local gun club. When some liberal goes and shoots up a movie theater or school and the Democrat Party says "oy vey ban the guns" they will get in line.

Just look at Colorado and Oregon and how all those "good Democrats" fell in line for gun control.

Classical liberalism was for 'freedom and equality', and just as now, back then people had different ideas about what those meant. So now you have liberals who are valuing the equality part perhaps too much (progressives) and liberals who value the freedom part perhaps too much (libertarians).

Conservatives are marked by their value for the common good over individual freedoms (think of the children! ban Elvis and his devilish rock n, roll! Gay marriage bad! Long live the king!)

Conservatives back in the time of the revolutionary war were the guys going "long live the King!".

Libertarians are on the political left, because they are liberals. The founding fathers were leftists.

Libertarians could be argued take interpret the 'freedom' part at the expense of 'equality'. And vice versa for progressives. Both are for, say, socially liberal things, just differing opinions on the role of government.

SJWs cold be, in a weird way, be considered a new form of conservatism. A neo-neo-conservatism, if you will. Banning things because they are offensive to their sensitivities, like bible thumpers do in the republican party. Again, common good over individual freedoms, the conservative way.

One of my professors in a US history survey course in college said that basically people fell into two groups:

1. "Whatever gets you through the night, brother." -- people that think others can do whatever they want so long as they don't bother others

2. [Can't remember his simple phrase but] -- people that thought you can't let people do whatever they want because they will make the wrong choices and fuck it up for everybody

When you break it down like this, there are some strange bedfellows in each group.

You've got that wrong, the Ds and Rs are both on the right side of the spectrum globally. Admittedly, the European and American sides are kinda flipped, which doesn't help in the discussion. Depending on where you are, right could mean "strictly by the word of law" for all judgments, and left would mean personal interpretation and fluidity. Or it could mean right is for limited government and left is for more government. In the US, we tend to use the second definition, which by my calculation is complete and utter horseshit since both sides love getting into fucking everything.

Regressive left is more right-leaning than anything, in the first definition. But they pretend to be as left as left can go, which is a farce.

Classical liberalism is what we need, in the vein of Enlightenment-era John Locke ideology. It would be considered right-leaning by the second definition, but in practice it is very liberal, as in liberty-minded, not as in liberal application of state solutions.

How about we cut this false dichotomy out of the picture and focus on what it really is: two corporate-owned authoritarian parties, and a handful of fringe candidates that are somewhat libertarian-leaning. The fact neither party is an absolute Constitutional advocate should have been your warning. Both sides treat the document as toilet paper. There are no limits to their power, but your natural rights can die from a thousand of their papercuts.
