The 4 words in the corners are Departure, Glori, Defence and Peace. at the bottom; in memorie of the big war.

Nothing that cool, but I do have this Smith & Wesson Victory that was used by the British in WW2. It would have originally been in .38 S&W, but post war, it was re-chambered and re-barreled for .38 Spl. The cylinder was probably just reamed the extra length for the new chartridge, but the barrel was replaced with pre-war stock. For some reason, it feels like the big S&W logo on the side plate was milled off.
>>
>>28326725
nice. shame for the logo
>>

>>28326671
I've never seen a French killed in action certificate. I've had plenty US ones.

Are you going to clean it up and display it?
>>
>>28326750
not sure on how to do it without damaging it.

>>28326738
Thanks. No idea what happened to it, but I suspect the logo met the same fate as the grips; an overzealous owner "customizing" his carry gun.

>>28326770
Read up on how to clean up old wood and old glass. Don't open the frame and don't do anything to the certificate or the medals.
>>
>>28326801
will look into it.
>>
>>28326770
Just as this guy said, >>28326801, don't open it.

Mild detergent in water and use a damp cloth. Wring it well and lightly wipe it down.
>>
>>28326832
>Mild detergent
I keep seeing this posted around, what exactly is a "mild detergent?" Obviously nothing with bleach or "orange power," but is there any sort of guide?
>>
>>28326841
Same question
>>
>>28326863
dish soap?? watered down with a ratio of a couple drops of soap to a bowl of water, unscented and no bullshit
>>
>>28326878
Ok thanks but the brown stuff on the glass seam resilient
>>
>>28326889
Scrub a little harder.

>>28326841
>>28326863
>>28326878
Dish soap. Not the extra strength stuff.
>>
>>28326889
It might have to stay there. Happened to me last night:
>bought a bunch of old beer logo glasses at goodwill
>some have sticker residue on them
>soak rag in 97% alchohol, begin rubbing
>resilient sitcker residue is going nowhere
>rub harder
>crack!
>there goes my favorite Bass chalice
Now imagine if you do the same thing, only over a paper document, and cloth ribbons. Broken glass is a bitch to clean and will break your heart.
>>
>>28326944
so do you have a solution?
>>
>>28326978
Don't clean it off. Seriously.

Since you're french, I'm guessing you haven't watched that show Pawn Stars (someone here is going to sperg because muh teevee fayk drama hurkadurr), but one of the recurring themes on it is people destroying value by cleaning or "restoring" items. Worse one I saw was an original WW1/2 (can't remember which) knife that the owner completely cleaned--taking off all the patina and ruining what value was in it. If you're just hanging it in your house, and someone asks, it's not shameful to say "I didn't want to break it and ruin it." If you're selling it, whoever the end collector is will appreciate that at the very least, the item wasn't damaged. I'd rather pick up a dirty antique vase than a clean one with a chip in it.
>>
>>28327009
seem like a good advice
>>
>>28327009
Agreed. Some people become over zealous in cleaning and destroy the object. If only trying to remove dust a light wipe with a damp cloth isn't going to hurt.
>>
>>28327056
already did that
>>
>>28327059
Then hang it out of direct sunlight and enjoy looking at it.

Nice piece.
