O/k/, guys. this is the 'what to buy' thread to end all 'what to buy' threads.

Lettuce debate and derive the best options for new and current gun owners under the following categories of weaponry.

>Target/range

>Hunting/game

>'Operator/Luk @ my 1337 setup'

>Classic/antique

>Handfuns: CCW/Open Carry

Also I have this year's 'Shooter's Bible' for reference, can post pictures of requested firearms with specifications and presumed MSRP.

This could be fun, so let's be constructive and learn eachother some good stuff!

I'll start with my opinion on the Classic/Antique category. I believe that with regard to quality of manufacture, reliability, and overall firepower, a really strong contender is the M1 Garand. Not as a meme, but as a serious rifle. .30-06 is a really powerful caliber, ammo is relatively affordable for plinking at the range occasionally, and it can be modified for hunting use if need be.

Pricing can be between $400 and $2000 depending on age/quality/design.

Thoughts?
>>
For CCW, I'd venture the Ruger LCP is a strong contender. Very discrete, low capacity, but firing .380 hollowpoints this thing can really pack some punch. Pic related, IV8888's flesh test of the .380 hollow point

$400.00 for a police surplus S&W M&P .40

> Detroit Police Dept. engraving

It's too tempting, /k/. Is that a decent price for a surplus .40?
>>
>>28326150
How old is it/how worn? MSRP is $769 according to muh book, so this could be a good deal for you.
>>
>>28325980
Where the hell do you find a $400 M1? I know CMP does around the 600 range but that's pretty low for a popular American rifle.
>>
>>28326142
Compared to something from Atlantic Firearms, what does the Century bring to the table that the Atlantic doesn't for the price?
>>
>>28326204
Like a beat to shit surplus M1 from a private seller. I know this isn't a comprehensive price range, but it's just a start point.

Unissued. Comes w/NS and 3 mags.

I want something fun and since I just got an Uberti 1860 Army and I'm overhauling my Springfield Mil-Spec with all Wilson Combat and Ed Brown parts I plan on buying a Colt plane jane classic 1911 to have something from that era.

I'm just torn on what rifle/carbine to get with it.

I already have an AR and an AK and I want to pick up an M1 in the future but for now I just want something fun/cool/different.

Why in fuck's name would you fire anything other than ball out of a .380 pistol being used for defense?

What 9mm pistol should I get to practice for competitive shooting? I'm most familiar with SA/DA from a Sig P226. Should I just jump into a glock and get gud with the different trigger, or should I spend a bunch more on an X-five?

>>28326562
i've used self healers and have never been impressed with them.

You can buy steel knock down targets make a better sound and will last a long time.

If you buy pistol rated steel, you can get a decent amount of them for cheap too.

2-you need insurance

It's the year of the AR man. Rock bottom prices. PSA nearly sold out entirely after black friday and xmas. Build up a nice chrome lined or melonite rifle kit for $600 once they stock back up and offer free shipping.

Just FYI

If you decide to get into reloading later, 8mm Mauser is really easy to load for. It loads a lot like 30-06, and Hornady makes cheap and good match bullets for it.

Oh, and

your a hero anon I was also thinking about getting into reloading but since I'm 18 and live with no funs parents that might not go well
>>
/k/ my parents said if I slim down to 200 from 325 pounds of lard, I get to own a dog and a gun (mind you get to own, would have to pay for food, ammo, etc on my own, but they'd at least buy the dog), this is an opportunity to change things since my life went in the shitter (dropped uni twice, need psychiatrist, bipolar or ADHD or something, etc etc, no health insurance).

what gun should I go for? I always wanted to hunt or make a living by doing that, any advice? Moist nugget? If it helps I used to shoot in scouts, got highest ranking for .22 bolt action and 29/30 on a competitive ranked shoot (I sneezed before pulling the trigger the first time, it cost me the award in the end, shooting with a semi-auto 12 gauge, all instructors load rifles for us and hold shells, etc)
>>
>>28327038
>hunting
savage axis until you can afford something better.
>>
>>28326948
You can still find cheap 8mm Turkish ammo if you don't mind corrosive shit.
>>
>>28326632
Why are you shooting at a range?

Just drive outside city limits and find a good spot

You could also Google "good places to shoot near x" and find some good spots for pretty much anywhere
>>
>>28327038
>slim down to 200 from 325

Can you not read, nigger?
>>
>>28327109
It will rust your gun to shit if you don't clean it out. Most of the surplus slav ammo is also corrosive.

It's not too hard to clean out, but unlike shooting non corrosive ammo you don't want to wait til the next day.
>>
>>28327121
I can read but what do they do to the gun and how can you prevent it from fucking it up
>>
>>28327066
Got it. Should I go for the .308 model? I'll be trying for bears, not really a fan of taking deer. Also will be moving to NY, doesn't seem like its illegal.

>>28327106
Sorry, I just want some motivation. If I had a specific rifle and dog in mind it would help. Will go to /an/, already did research for NY hunting.

>>28327116
Would prefer scope but I can manage with iron sights. The farther my dog and I are away from the bear, the better.
>>
>>28327127
ok that's what I thought thanks I just don't want to fuck up the gun when I get it
>>
>>28327133
In that case get a new production rifle, they're easier to mount scopes on than milsurp.
>>
>>28327133
>If I had a specific rifle and dog in mind it would help.
Don't set yourself to one rifle or caliber. It's going to take time for you to lose weight and just the same amount of time to decide on a particular caliber.

>already did research for NY hunting
Do more research. I'm sure a novice hunter would be better off hunting something other than bear. Especially with a dog. Mind you there are many types of hunting dogs so don't expect /an/ to just figure out basic shit for you.
>>
>>28327133
If you are chasing bears, buy a 45-70, ammo is expensive, but it will stop a bear.
I would recommend a Handi-Rifle in 45-70 if you are dead set on bears.
>>
>>28326371
You aught to wait. If you reload or save brass then the ptr fuck them up. Even if you don't reload save that brass and sell it to someone who does.
>>
>>28326648
Don't listen to that dumbass about the ruger american, she'll out a little more dough for a savage if you want a cheaper bolt rifle.
