Kind of pointless. Their gear is old but quality stuff (only 1st world country to still use AML90s, still using ancient AUGa1s, etc). They are only really there for responding natural disasters and terrorist attacks, any military invasion of Ireland would be largely repelled by the poms.

Basically this. Irish civilians are allowed to join the British army, and many do. Those who join the actual Irish military are Irish nationalists and Patriots. Those who are actually smart join an Irish regiment in the britbong army. Irish Guards or Royal Irish regiment.

I spent 7.5 years in the Army here and never heard any support of the ira. Your statement shows your knowledge of Ireland is fuck all. They view us as their enemies as much as the British Army and are quite happy to kill us too.

The Irish soldier is a high quality soldier as evidenced by the opinions of the forces we have served with. Everywhere we go, we are held in high regard.
Personal kit is by and large quite good, I would say, provided you can get it issued to you. Some pieces of kit are dogshite but every army issues some useless kit.
Ordinance wise, ie. guns, armour etc., they are high quality but low quantity which poses obvious problems but there is just enough for our commitments.
Defence of the Nation isn't a priority any more as the threat of a Nation attacking us is very small and therefore the Army is focused primarily towards peace-keeping and training missions.
Hopefully though, with the resurgence of the Bear, we will see an increased defence budget and cooperation with EU allies
