Does anyone else prefer bolt actions for range fun?

Working the bolt is just awesome, feels incredibly good and fun. A semi auto is just boring unless you want to blow shit up quickly.

Pic related. I got the chance of shooting one of these and it was awesome.
>>
I always bring a milsurp bolt action with me to the range, usually a mosin or mauser. Uses less ammo and I do actually enjoy working the bolt, same for lever actions. I agree it gets you feeling more involved with firing the gun vs semi autos.
>>
working the bolt is incredibly fun. I like anything you have to manually cycle to semiautos for fun.
>>
Yep. It feels very personal. I love it.

Sorry I'm on the phone. Kind anon bros, what is this sexual contraption?
>>
>>28312796
i love my nugget and i definitely agree working the bolt is awesome me personally i have a soft spot for bolt guns with open sights im not to fond of scopes/optics
>>
>>28312796
A yugo mauser was my first gun, and my only gun for the longest time. So now it feels odd to use a semi and not have to work the bolt. Every so often I find myself reaching to work the nonexistent bolt and feel like an idiot when I remember I'm shooting a semi.
>>
I do. Trying to decide between a mosin, k31, k98 or similar.

Yep. I agree with you completely OP. You're still a faggot though.
>>
>>28312796
Yes, especially a milsurp bolt gun. So much history knowing that a soldier once carried this very firearm.

I enjoy it, but my semi-auto guns have the same ergonomics as my bolt guns (that is to say, they're all fudd guns).

I like 'em all.
>>
>>28312796
The sound and action of working a bolt gun is second to none. But it's a guilty pleasure at the range and a showpiece in the cabin.
I wish Nuggets were still $89.99 a pop at my LGS like they were three years ago, I'd have bought a whole crate.

Now a group shooting day consists of the historical "artifacts" and the nugget is on that list.

I.. I have a confession.

I've only ever shot a single shot bolt action .22. I fucking loved it. I'm australian. I don't quite have the money to own my own shit or jump through the loopholes.

I post to /k/ almost every day in relevant areas, avoid shitposting etc. If I could own only one gun, it would either be the M1 Garand for the PING and 30.06 semi-auto american freedom, or a K98/SMLE NO.4 or Mosin in that order.

I'm a bit of a fudd as I really only like bolt actions and milsurp semi-auto's, but I don't want to stop anybody else having the "scurry militury salt rifles", and would probably own 1-2 if budget permitted.

I love /k/ and I love america. God bless USA.
>>
My best range trips are when I bring and shoot my K98k.
I only shoot one or two boxes of ammo in a couple hours but it's still great to shoot in a relaxed way and take it as an occasion to shoot the shit with the other people there.

Drive around the desert with a metal detector, maybe you can find a rifle someone buried.

cant you not own a PING in Australia at all?

I know you can get them in Canada, but like non-CMP ones in America, theyre over a grand

if you decide to com 2 amurica, northern new England is gr8.
>>
>>28312796
Me here, all my rifles are bolt action. I have a semi-auto pistol as of today, but bolt action is my favorite type of action.

>>28314030
Single shot bolt action .22s are fun. Can you own a bolt action military rifle? Look around. I have only bolt actions and I enjoy them. I might buy an AR/AK but I have my eyes on the SKS mainly.
>>
>>28314233
>I wrote "shoot" 4 times in two sentences.
I think I might have a problem.
>>
>>28312796
Yeah same. Can't really stand all the fudds at the range who bring their $1500 tacticool AR-15s and just shoot in the general direction of the target. And the constant noise of semi-autos in just unbearable.
I believe shooting should be fun but also somewhat serious and skill-based.

But oh well, to each his own.
>>
>>28314723
>fudds
>AR-15s
That's not what fudd means.
>>
>>28314723
>the fudd has transcended definitions
>>
>>28314588
No. It's semi automatic, that's reserved for military uses (somehow) and primary producers or farmers with large amounts of land.

>>28314650
Can own any kind of bolt action, the problem is the cost. Relative to the US I think you're looking at a mark up of 100-300$ on any given bolt action, let alone glass/ammo.

Also need a safe, the licensing and registration fees are fucking abysmally high, and my local range is a 20 minute car trip away and alas I have no fucking car.

I would simply ride my bike there, but unfortunately that's not a legal method of firearm transportation.

So, at the moment, It looks highly unlikely for me to shoot unless I find a local I can bribe with booze and dosh to take me to the range to blast some of his fuddguns.

Good on ya OP, I do quite enjoy working the action on the range/hunting.

I've spent a couple decades now using the Lee Enfield and finally decided to pick myself up a P14 in original shape.

Love the .303 British rifles.

>Does anyone else prefer bolt actions for range fun?
I won't say I prefer them, but I do enjoy them about equally or even more depending on my mood.
I like shooting the mosin as much as the psl for the most part. Operating the bolt brings it's own flavor of fun. I usually single load each round into the mag too because the more I get to manipulate the gun, the better.

Yeah, a good friend of mine moved here (US) from Perth. It took several years and multiple trips back and forth between the US and Australia for him to finally be able to live here permanently. Apparently you can't even renew your temporary visa online or via phone, you have to actually fly back to fucking Australia, go to the embassy, renew it, and then fly back to the States.
>>
>>28312796

Indeed OP. K98 is best raifu
>>
I feel you op. I have an m95 Budapest straight pull carvine I got for $99 a couple months ago at my lgs. Don't have ammo not have I shot it yet but the looks of it are actually a lot better than most in my safe, In my opinion

Nigga you must be doing a good job.
>>

Is your boss hot?
>>
>>28321761
No, he's a very old man. Super generous and already pays us to much.

>>28321725
Eh, average I think. I work for a small company, and he really likes his bonuses to the employees to be much more personal than money.

I mean he's the kind of guy if you asked him "Hey I need 200 bucks to cover rent this month" He'd give it to you and get mad if you tried to pay him back.

Shooting my friends many ARs is boring. My first gun was a Yugo Mauser, she was the only gun I had for a few months, then I bought a mosin, afterward I got a BP revolver, and just recently I got another Mauser, except this one was made by DWM in Berlin. Pic related.

This is me, to an extent. I like to give people shit and don't expect anything in return. Your boss seems like a nice guy, stay there as long as you can, it's hard to find good jobs you enjoy these days.

this is whats wrong with america right now. this guy cant get in because of bureaucratic bullshit, meanwhile central american immigrants from 3rd world countries with no intention of assimilation or skills to offer cross the rio grande, claim asylum and go to california where the governor allows them to get state drivers licenses, which allow them to sign up for all sorts of state and federal benefits

Sometimes I wish I lived in the southwest so I could justify a purchase like that. There just isn't anywhere to shoot 1000yds+ around where I live.
