I've seen PKM's run on some pretty shit ammo with rusted cases. Does that count?

Quick PKM question.

Why the right side feed?

As far as I know it's the only weapon purposefully designed that way.
>>
>>28309403
Well the mechanism is pretty much an upside down AK, so I imagine that it had to feed from the right because an upside down AK would eject to the left.

I have no idea actually, but considering slavs I stand by my theory

ITT: People who've never actually even seen a PKM.

>Awkward barrel change
>Non-disintegrating, non-connectable links
>That awkward claw because the stupid link belt and cartridge combination won't allow for push feed.
Also
>1915 + 100.9
>Rimmed cartridge

All the furniture, attachments, and accessories are also clunky as fuck but I'm not even going to criticize that because that's the slav design philosophy.
>>
>>28309403
It's a crew service weapon, fuckbone.
How many cans of 7.62 can you hump, sissy faggot?
>>
>http://www.waffen-joray.ch/automaten/lmg-pkm-detail.html

Does anyone want to buy one for only 2900 Swiss Francs? It's the same in USD.
>>
>>28313451
The polish UKM 2000 must be perfect then, as its a PKM in 7.62x51 NATO.
>>
>>28313547
It still has the numerous awkward design flaws of Slavic engineering.

what? they are connectable, soldier carry 100 box with two 50 round link connect together
and the Pole made PKM use disintegrating link and 7.62NATO
>won't allow for push feed
who care? implying it is anything but better
the only problem of the full feed system i can think of is you cann't carry the gun muzzle up

would it be able to work frozen up like that? are they considered as reliable as an AK? seems like the open belt probably invites more debris and chances for dirt to cause stoppages
>>
is this thread slavboo bullshit, or does the PKM legitimately have an edge over other comparative machineguns?
>>
>>28313629
Really, they're about on par. The regular old PKM is a bit dated. The modern Polish rendition is right up there with an M240.

There's not really much that a machinegun needs to be.

UKM 2000 is way lighter than the M240 or anything make by FN
with the same barrel length of cause
>>
>>28313655
The PKM/UKM is about as heavy as a M249. So pretty light for a 7.62. The ammunition is of course still pretty heavy.
>>
>>28313655
UKM 2000 18.52 lbs
M240L 22.3 lbs

Huh, 4 lbs is actually a pretty significant difference.

No barrel changes for you then.

For humping it on foot patrol, fine. But for mounted use or static defense?

DO NOT WANT.

KvKK 62 7.62x39

>looks like it jammed again 2. lt. dick!
>at least it breaks into two so you can use it as nunchcks!

I always tried to trade this shit for a PKM. Valmet tried to fix something that isn't broken and it all went to shit. Good thing is that it shoots the 7.62x39 and it's pretty accurate, but the feeding is garbo and it sorely needs a metal ammo case.

Mosat, mosat ei ikinä muutu.
>>

I know how to use the damn thing properly, but the field strip is overly complicated and prone to errors compared to PKM and the standard RK blank rounds are too weakly loaded to make it operate reliably (as in not hammering the moving parts back enough on rapid fire). It gets better with live rounds, but combat training is mostly with blanks, so the thing gets stuck on misfeeding more often than not and the good ol' "pull moving parts back, remove feed error" doesn't work as well as in PKM. It's a good gun, but it could've been much better.

UKM 8.7kg
M240/ FN MAG 11kg
>>

gtfo RIDF
>>
>>28313629
The only objective advantage it has over the MAG58 is measured in kilograms. Other than that, which isn't insignificant I might add, it is the same or loses slightly to the 240.

In a gunfight under 500 yards, I would rather have the 249 t b h. The way you win gunfight is with fire and maneuver. The SAW fires enough, and maneuvers better than both.

>In b4 base of fire

If I have a squad, I'm still carrying the 249. There isn't anything a machine gun is supposed to do that a SAW can't do inside half a klick. The 7.62 isn't reliably defeating armor any way. You might as well be able to move while keeping their heads down.
>>
>>28314586
Me again, for mounted use or guard shack work, I'll take either the MAG58 or PKM as long as every fourth gun is a .50. Slight preference for the 240 because I've trained with it.

I don't claim to be an expert in this subject, but isn't the RPK-74M supposed to be the primary squad-level machine gun of the Russian Army? Supposed to be, at the least.

>>28314710
Read the filename.
Sight radius isn't a big deal on machine guns for reasons that you should be able to guess.
