So /k/, I've got a question regarding body armor. I need something that'll fit a decent budget and fit nicely in a Mayflower APC.

I'm using this vest for security work in San Bernardino and after the recent attack I want to make sure it can take some hits without giving out.

Weight isn't a huge issue, I'm a bit of a big guy anyway. Only thing I'm really worried about is pricing. I'm not going to be getting my paychecks from the new job for a couple weeks.

I already use CATI LVL3 plates, but the fitment sucks ass and leaves a good chunk of the upper carrier exposed.

Any recommendations so I'm not completely SOL?

Numbers, anon. Budget? Height/weight? What do you carry on your plate, or is it just armor alongside your gunbelt?

You gonna reuse your CATI plates? Or are you looking for carrier + plates? Are sideplates an option for you?

OP here.

At current 195 lbs and 6' 1". At the moment it's the CATI plates, 4 piece set. Side plates aren't an issue, they fit well enough.

Concerning budgets, I'd probably try and sell them off on ebay after I get a better set.

Overall, I might have about 300 spending cash at the end of the month if all things fall into place

I'm kind of hesitant to go with armour-wear, Been hearing a few horror stories about no shipments and wrong shipments from a lot of different sites (facebook, ar15.com, etc). Their facebook reviews aren't much better.

Someone in the last thread got some. This is what they had to say.

These plates, right? http://www.catiarmor.com/Frag-Coated-Set-10x12s-and-6x6-Side-Plates_p_30.html

Or do you have the 6x8 sides?

I've heard nothing but good things.

the 10x12 frag coat yeah with 6x8 sides. Side plates were a gift from my dad when I told him the job I got into.

Already have the mayflower. Wearing it under my uniform because I'm a bargain bin armed security guard.

Doesn't look like a bad option overall. If these are the same plates in the Active Shooter Kit I might get the set just because it's cheaper that way.

SKD makes their own plates now, been considering buying a pair for myself.

Best advice is not to bother with rifle plates. Because to be honest with you the likelihood that you would encounter anything like that attack again is very low. And even if you did the likelihood of a single operator, even one that is trained, making a deference is low at best. I mean if you just want to feel "safe" then you can buy some plates, but it will probably be a waste of money and time.

I'm actually more worried about the hoods than I am about another attack.

Even if I am at a government site
