Picked up another M39, she's a beaut.
I've got all the cosmoline out of the metal parts, but the stock is soaked in the stuff. What's the best way to get the cosmoline out without damaging the original finish?

I just wiped with paper towels to start with.
I shot it and got it hot so it was bleeding out of an otherwise clean stock, then wiped more off with the towels I'd brought. Pretty soon, there wasn't any left.

upside down picture thanks to mobile, goddamnit.

nice, may just go that route, seems the most gentle. any thoughts on soaking it in mineral spirits? will that take off the finish?
bolt on this one is real clean, the whole rifle is in impressive shape, no rust, minimal pitting, just the stock is soaked. tried murphy's soap and a scotch brite pad, got the chunky surface stuff off but didnt draw any of the soaked in stuff out, as expected.

no idea, sounds less safe to me, but I don't know jack about using mineral spirits on wood finishes
What i did with my sks was put it inside 2 black garbage bags and leave it in the sun then every hour or 2 wipe it down keep doing this until no more comes out worked pretty well for me

I will have to try that, thank you.

Yep might be kinda hard since its the winter months but any hot area will work you can even use an oven if it will fit
Fuck that looks nice did you get it from classic?

I just took a hair dryer to one to 1942 izzy.Took about 2 hours but i got all that shit out.

Just got a k11 from those niggers, they just threw it in a box with a couple pieces of paper thin foam to protect it.
>>28290645
Shit man, all they did was wrap mine in brown paper and put it in the box. I guess the trip from NC to Michigan wasn't enough to fuck it up, luckily.
>>28290321
You think it would work if I placed it in front of a big ass space heater I have? pic relate, looks kinda like that
>>28290392
Seriously makes me regret cheaping out on the standard grade. Your rifle is way nicer than mine for only twenty fucking dollars more
>>28289229
Either bleed it out by shooting or throw the stock in a trash bag and leave it in your car (assuming you live in a hot area) and that will do it too.
Don't put it in the oven and that will do the job too well.

I use eezox in the winter for removing Cosmo, its expensive but it melts the shit away
