New York was already confirmed the worst state in the country
They conveniently forget to mention that the state already passed legislation to institute a state-wide background check system for ammunition purposes in the SAFE Act; the state never actually got around to implementing the system and hoped people would just forget about it. This law as described in that article is unenforceable: the only restricted weapons in the state are handguns and assault weapons, but assault weapons fire the same ammunition as equivalent weapons and carbines can fire the same ammunition as any handgun. So there's no way for a gun store owner to know that a potential purchaser doesn't have an appropriate weapon for the ammunition. The quote from the lawmaker complains about not needing to show ID to buy ammo unlike cold medicine (you do, there are age requirements for ammo same as for Sudafed), and there is no sort of ID you can show to prove that you have an appropriate gun for a particular cartridge. It's just another bullshit feelgood law.
What would gun shops do? Take 12 rounds out of a box and sell them?
