AKA Lets-get-Back-to-Normal Edition
I've been noticing more m-lok builds, alongside more goats than usual...
Lets discuss M-Lok vs keymod.
Is there any real difference in functionality between the two?
you know the drill
>talk builds
>Post yours
>shit on others builds
>maybe learn some shit (but probably not)
>Trip like the bunch of goat fuckers you are
honestly not really, I like keymod aesthetics better though
>>28272009
Rollmarks are for losers
>>28272009
I choose m-lok because it looks better then key-mod and that's the only reason
>>28272009
Beep. How's that Holosun treating you? Am very likely going to get an HS503C since there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of bad about it and pick up a QD mount from American Defense.
Anyone try any of Matrix Aerospaces' handguads? I'm looking at their Lavi handguard.
More OC of goats please.
>>28272009
M-LOK is a bit more stable and because of its simple shape its possible to make polymer M-LOK handguards. The KDG Kinect QD attachments for it are really cool, but expensive
>>28272059
to each their own. I've just felt that mlok would be a bit lighter and the keymod might slide if its not tightened properly.
>>28272081
nicely so far. The solar panel works pretty well during the daytime and with indoor lighting. i have yet to really test it out innadesert
>>28272063
i agree
>>28272062
>not being proud of your build
>>28272133
>I've just felt that mlok would be a bit lighter
the KMR is very lightweight, only think lighter might be the Erathr3 rail but that sacrifices a lot of rail space
>the keymod might slide if its not tightened properly
how would M-lok not do the exact same?
>>28272154

Stop perpetuating this myth, there is an integral rear locking lug the keeps keymod attachments from moving back to the larger unlocked position.

Are MLOK rails viable for fixing a 40mm underslung grenade launcher, or will recoil tear them off the lugs?
Curious whether that would be an issue in MLOK handguards being adopted for service rifles instead of a permanent picatinny rail handguard (at least on the on the 6-o'clock position).
I remember that 40mm recoil was sufficient enough that Colt Canada had to produce a reinforced gas-block/FSP for the Brits because of the way their AG36s impacted the post, and earlier versions of the IUR had a big chunky backstop on the lower handguard, that was designed to stop UGLs travelling under recoil
>>28272582
It will be a hard sell for the larger military forces to accept either M-LOK of KeyMod just based on the fact that it makes for more small parts to lose considering all of their supporting equipment that gets mounted on handguards is standardized to 1913.and will require rail sections.
What are some good mlok rails that are quality and affordable other than alg?
>>28272686
Midwest Industries
>>28272614
Yeah I was looking at it in terms of them using rail sections for mounting current equipment.
There was some retard doing the whole hurr durr:
>2015
>quad rails
>not using M-LOK
in a recent thread about New Zealand's new AR.
They were deflecting the point other posters made about STANAG-2324/MIL-STD-1913 being the standard for equipment by stating that M-LOK rail sections were sufficient and more practical because of weight and comfort. But I have my doubts how they'd hold up in general service (with the need for UGLs and as you say, no tools and fiddly bits) - not just the kind of high-speed shit where the minimalist handguards do have some benefit.
No pics, but my mlok hand guard has some rough and sharp edges, especially at the front, where it also has quad railing. How bad would it be to take a file to it, and file it down? What could I use to touch up the removed anodized spots? Will the areas chip and crack and get bigger?
>>28272740
What kind of rail do you have?
Keymod is clearly superior
>>28272009

M-Lok looks better than Keymod, and Magpul is premier poorfag accessory maker.

>>28273263
my second build has a 13" keymod freefloat on it, and I was all excited because it looked cool. fast forward to present, and all I've mounted is an AFG. considering mounting a flashlight on the top 1913 rail :^/
my third build has a drop-in MOE handguard. it's lighter.
>>28273539
I've got a VFG and used to have a keymod light mount, but have since switched to a pic-rail mounted one.
Keymod/Mlok are great for lighter weight and low profile, but it's kind of impossible to take full advantage of that much mounting surface.
That said, the 45 degree attachment points that rails like the KMR, URX 4, KDG MREX, and Geissele Mk8 have are a really nice feature that makes offset lights, irons, and whatever else really easy, so that's neat.
>>28273563
the newer gen Midwest Industries handguards have that 45 degree shit goin on too. I probably shouldn't shit on free floats as much as I do, because they do have their purposes, but after owning my first, I doubt I'll get another one until I build a 18-20" spr. I find them overrated and overpriced.

>>28273842
Is it mil-spec?
Do you like the roll mark?
Are you happy with the price?
>>28272614
Old equipment will require rails sections new with direct attachment will not. Rails have small parts of their own (rail covers).
BTW M4A1+ requirements are written in such way that they imply M-Lok or keymod.
>>28272063
is this a krylon job and if so, how did you do it?
>>28272133
>to each their own. I've just felt that mlok would be a bit lighter and the keymod might slide if its not tightened properly.
You have no clue how keymod works, I'm afraid.

>>28274087
so you are going with the suppressor inside the rail thing? I've thought about that. I like the way it looks, but its going to be while before I can afford a suppressor.
My current rail has keymod at the 6 o' clock. But whenever I get around to building another upper (or full AR who knows) I plan on getting something with keymod.
That being said, I know that ALG has some handguards with a top rail section that doesn't go the whole length of the handguard, and Manticore Arms does the same thing with their Transformer rail, are there any others that have this feature? Cause I think it looks awesome and it saves on weight.

This is my previous post.
Does anyone know of a good way to get an accurate idea as to how long the rail will be in relation to the barrel?
On my 9" barrel, when measured from tip to tip it is actually 9.5" When they say 9" is that generally accurate as to how far it will actually stick out? When someone says a 9" rail does that mean they would pretty much line up perfectly?
Can I play?

Were you really able to sum up almost every tripfag in this thread, and out of this thread, ever?
Well done.

I would paint a layer then add masking tape that I cut into random polygons. then spray another layer. repeat until you have all the colors you want
>>28276211
I think you need 2 more flashlights.
The anti-symmetry is triggering my tisms.
Today I learned that a magpul UBR won't fit onto a CMT lower but a MVB ARC PDW stock will despite being advertised as incompatible.
I'm admittedly pretty pissed. Oh well, I guess I'll form 1 it and make a SBR.

Anyone ever taken the A2 front site and gas block off and replaced it with a low profile gas block?
All of the builds I'm looking at involve a full length free floating rail but I can't do that with this Fudd shit.
I'm almost tempted to dremel the fucker off.
>>28276356
>Anyone ever taken the A2 front site and gas block off and replaced it with a low profile gas block?
Nope. Completely uncharted territory.
>>28276356
shit's easy man. The FSB is just held on with tapered pins, and most low-profile gas blocks are secured with set screws. It's pretty simple stuff.
>>28276356
>Fudd shit.
I shouldn't even help you but there are rails for the carbine length A2 rifles that will give you the "look" you're going for.
>>28276334
w-water operator?
>>28276529
Nope, sorry. I just felt left out and wanted to name what I did.
On a different subject, my M16A1 parts kit didn't come today, so I'm kind of bummed.
>>28276566
Oh ok. What did it ship with?
Anyone use tnsarmsco lowers? Those polymer ones?
I'm going to build a dirty used AR with parts from arfcom's EE. My plan is to make the cheapest AR possible. Tnsarms seems to have the best priced lower and they seem to have good reliablity tests plus a lifetime guarantee.
Also if anyone has AR parts floating around they want to sell hit me at usefulemailforthings@gmail
The more finish worn the better.
>>28276611
Basically everything that normal parts kits ship with. The only thing missing is the barrel and lower. The lower I'm planning on making from an 80% Nodak Spud lower, which are actually in stock.
I really need to stop building so many ARs at once. Just today, an employee at my LGS let me finger his 14.5" build and now I'm wanting to build a lightweight 14.5". I already have four completed and three more in the works.
>>28276069
I was using lithium grease that day
Lower build kit just got here. Any /k/ approved build guides?
>>28276623
They're garbage. Don't waste your time with them.
Pay a little it more and get an Anderson. You can find an Anderson in most LGS for no more than $50-$60. Once you factor in a transfer fee for the polymer lower, it will essentially be the same cost.
>>28276623
they are good, but not meant for duty use.
PSA has blems on sale right now for $49.99. An extra $10 will get you a mil-spec lower, if that matters.
And wtf is on this screw?
>>28276672
when you're installing the detents do it in a large cardboard box so if I spring or detent goes flying it doesn't disappear into oblivion.

Got two coats of Rustoleum Earth Brown on the RIS II, letting it dry for a few hours then I'll bring it inside for pictures.
Pic related is a rifle done in Earth Brown, it's not too far off from a lot of the DD FDE shades I've seen, definitely closer than Duracoat's "DD FDE" color, which is more of a golden-bronze than the rich, dark chocolatey color that most of the RIS IIs have.
Won't be a perfect match, but it should look nice, and I didn't really want to fully rattle-can the new rifle right away.
>>28276684
Placed my order. Didn't know they were back in stock.
Any truth to it being a bad idea to change the gas block to low profile? Something about screws working lose and causing the rifle not to cycle?
Is it easy to fuck that up?
>>28276822
Nah, plenty of people switch to low profile from FSBs.
You could always just hack down the FSB, too, that's an option.
>>28275971
By this definition..yes..
