Agnostic, but I analyze and respect other religions. I've read the Quran, the Bible, Vedic texts, the Torah, etc... while personally I'm not religious, I respect religions. I also understand the religious cultural roots that we have as Americans, and that other nations have.

But I can also be in a position to call out their bullshit. In recent days, that's been more towards Islam.

Not wrong with Islam, it's no more horrid as any other religion.

The problem is the idiots who follow it you can find terrible things in the bible as well but decent human beings attempt to rectify this, however Muslims can't seem to adapt and stop killing for fuck stupid reason so we gotta kill em back.

Yes and no, just like other holy books there are passages about killing apostates and non-believers, but it seems more prevalent and shows up more often than in the Bible or Torah.

That said, I do think Muslims need to undergo a reformation similar to how modern Christians have. These "extremist" beliefs are fairly widely shared and common in the Muslim world, and even in America.

I'm deist, and why the fuck are Hinduism and Sikhism in the same vote? I get agnostic and athiest, but Sikh and Hindu?

I tend to think of "new age" as more eclectic beliefs like magic healing crystals, casting spells, and other shit that I don't believe in, whereas folks interested in revitalizing established tribal beliefs from history would be reconstructionists. That's too many options though, honestly "other" works just fine for me.

See that's the thing that pisses me off. Atheism didn't used to be "I KNOW there is no god(s)". It used to simply be "There isn't any evidence to support a god or god like beings". But then we got SJWs and other gay shit slipping in and they start walking around declaring that the lack of evidence is solid proof that there is nothing and therefor it is a fact there is no god. That is wrong, there is simply no evidence.
>>
>>282714

>Atheism means that you know nothing is out there

Depends on which atheism you subscribe to. Atheism is about belief, agnosticism is about knowledge. An agnostic atheist doesn't hold a belief in a god, but doesn't claim that a god absolutely isn't real. A gnostic atheist is someone who claims that god 100% doesn't exist.

The same applies to believers. You can believe in god but admit that you don't have 100% certainty. That's agnostic theism. A believer who is 100% certain of god is a gnostic theist.
>>
>>28271504

Does it take "faith" to claim that there isn't an invisible unicorn hiding on mars?

I'd argue that in reality, it does not. If you make an extraordinary claim without evidence, it doesn't take faith not to believe in it, whether it is the desert monster Yahweh or bigfoot or any other bullshit random stuff you can come up with. Until you have positive evidence for your claim, it is entirely logical to dismiss it as bullshit.

I was raised in a semi-religious household. Both my parents were church-going people, who met in the navy and had me when they were stationed in the UK. I'm a navy brat technically. While one parent was away at sea the other was at home, still had to report to duty of course, but we didn't really go to church regularly while they were still serving. However the only times I had to go to church was when I was visiting my super orthodox relatives (who have like a dozen kids), aside from that I never had to regularly go to church and I'm fucking glad I didn't. Early on I was very into science and nature and shit like that and once I realized that Santa wasn't real everything else went along with it.

I openly admit to being atheist but I don't mind sitting in a church just to support my mom. I also don't pursue relationships with girls that want to be religious because I like my secular lifestyle. I'd rather stand for what I believe in than lie about it just to get some pussy.

Spirituality requires a state of mind, but it necessarily mean you're talking to your space wizard when you drop acid.

Does Asatru have any conventions or anything like that? I'm in the U.S. if that matters.

Also, good books to read. I'm not religious, but I am interested in my heritage and since a quarter of my family is German, I want to research the old ways as much as I can. I would look into the Scots, Irish, and Welsh heritages, but no one has made any serious attempt to reconnect with the faith of the old Celts. The only things people practice and claim come from Celtic paganism are made up.
>>
>>28271853

Yeah, they're pretty shitty though.

Yes. Just google Asatru, you'll find tons of stuff. Poetic and Prose Eddas are a good start for Asatru.
>>
>>28271863

>no one has made any serious attempt to reconnect with the faith of the old Celts
That's because it's impossible. There's just no reliable sources on any of it. They didn't write anything down, they adopted Christianity really early and very thoroughly, the only things we have are Roman accounts that don't cover much at all and aren't too reliable.

For Asatru, read Germania, the prose and elder eddas, listen to about two hours of Amon Amarth and Tyr a day, and boom you're an Asatruar
>>
>>28271863

I don't go to any conventions, but this is really a belief in your family and land more than anything. Check out We Are Our Deeds, Culture of the Teutons (can be found for free with a Google search) and some of the books on Germanic mythology from Jacob Grimm.

This is an orthopraxic religion, meaning rightness of action matters much more than what one necessarily believes in, as opposed to the Ahbramic faiths with are orthodoxies and place emphasis on right belief.

AA only talks about odin most of the time and while he was the all-father, people didn't worship him on a daily basis like how christians worship their god.

It was very polytheistic so people worshipped a different handful of gods based on what profession they worked or their lifestyle

Honestly, it seems like young kids these days are super proud of being atheists, like it's some form of accomplishment that they "overcame the brainwashing" or something. They have to be the first to let you know they're way to smart to think that God is a joke and they're smarter than you if you believe. I think it's like there's so much confusion in this day and age that young people just want to feel sure about something, their idea of science means God can't exist, so you get these militant atheist fags that annoy absolutely everyone in their vicinity. Maybe I'm wrong but that's my observation as a 27 year old college bro.

'Militant' atheist kids is probably the result of similarly militant fundies who were going full no fun allowed mode and media, where kids read on the internet that god ain't real or something and they decide to be rebellious

I usually don't talk about my beliefs because even though i believe them i think theyre kind of stupid. Basically the closest thing i can think of that fits is animism, stuff other than people have souls.

Lutheran. used to be a Germanic heathen. raised southern Baptist.

Chans in general are majority irreligious. weapon and outdoors forums tend to have an above average number of Germanic heathens due to what constitutes virtue in that religion.

>>28271863

not quite. I mean, you may see them at ren fairs and general pagan meetups, but AFAIK, there isn't anything like "ThorCon" or anything.
there's a few big "kindreds" out on the left coast, and in ex-mormon country that get together and do heathen stuff.

other than that, most states have little <10 person kindreds, with the bigger ones being universalist "heathens against hate" types. you may run into the crazy neo-nazi types too, but they don't tend to advertise too often.

>reading list

as much as asatruar will shit on me for saying this: read Nietzsche's der Antichrist and also sprach zarathustra, and shoe-horn that mentality into the stories of the eddas and sagas. you'll literally have a top-tier (if not deconstructed) understanding of "heathen" philosophy overnight.

The reformation in Christianity is closely tied to going back to the original text and reinterpreting it, getting closer to the source, weeding out non-Cristian influences and re-separating church and state. (based on Mark 12:17)

If you do the same with the Koran and follow what was lived and preached by the Prophet you're not creating a religion more compatible with the western world.
You end up with Salafism and IS.

So the reform of Islam many seem to consider vital for international peace can not be based on a fairly literal interpretation of scripture like it is the case with Cristianity which, at its core, is not opposed to the modern state.
A Muslim reformation with this goal would have to be based on an extremely skeptical look at the Koran, Hadith and especially the Prophet...
like considering all contents of the Koran that were revealed after Sura 22,52 rather than before it to potentially have an influence other than God.

An interesting coincidence is that the Koran in its current form actually puts the early Sura revealed before 22,52 at the end of the book.
If you read it using this order you end up with the fairly Cristian parts as the final word.
Modern fundamentalist Islam is based on taking the Koran literally while also taking into account what was revealed in which historical context.
The jump from doubting late rather than early Sura surprisingly isn't as extreme as it might seem at first, if you consider the Koran in its current non chronological form to be a work created under Gods influence and intended to be read in non chronological order.

I guess I would be Agnostic because I'm still trying to find out what God is before I answer whether or not one exists. I think whatever concept we have of something that omniscient is futile and to assume its existence or nature and live our lives and dictate the lives of others based on that assumption is dangerous and will always do more harm than good. So, I live my life without it and focus on being productive member of society. We'll find the answers someday and we'll find them the right way.

Here's my take on this: Our culture, which is western civilization, will become weak without religion. Just look at great Britain, Sweden and Norway. They are a bunch of cucks. It is only a matter of time before a stronger civilization, such as the Muslims overtake us. I don't care if god exists; however, Christianity is what held western civilization together for thousands of years. Atheism = indifference, weakness, apathy, and failure. Religion = Dumb but holds together civilizations. All the Leftists and the sjw crowd come from our apathy and inability to form a cohesive union of westerners.

Heh, it's actually quite simple. I actually entertain a couple of viewpoints, a mix of Taoism with Hinduism. The Taoists see the world as a natural event, a system of interdependence, you cannot have white without black, pain without pleasure, sound without silence and so on. Between white and black there exists an infinite spectrum of colors. Between pain and pleasure a wide spectrum. A Chinese kid wouldn't ask his mother "how was I made"? But instead "how was I grown".

The world wasn't made and it isn't composed of any separate events. "You" for example are still the big bang happening. Assuming it started with a big bang. There is no such thing as cause and effect. It all happens spontaneously of itself, this reality. You as a separate ego, a separate agent, experiencing this world separately is seen as a hallucination. The ego is as real as a telephone number.

YouI don't actually exist as a separate individual apart from the rest of the happening world. You grow your fingernails, beat your heart, breathe, just as much as you shine the sun.

The Hindus see the world as a drama. As an illusion. You play every part, every experience is you in a different lifetime. only you're playing as if you're really not. Basically, quantum mechanics are now discovering what eastern thought has been saying for thousands of years.

I recommend Alan Watts on YouTube for a very easy and very simple breakdown of eastern thought.
