/k/ I have $500 and want a CC gun, is the Walther PPS my best bet?

Is there a better option? I want something pretty slim (since I'm a thin guy myself), in 9mm, and is quality.

I live in a state where no permit is needed for CC (or OC).

If you can get a Walther that cheap then go for it.

Is the performance center model worth the extra $?

Thanks anon
>>
>>28092529
Kek no it just has that right across the frame in hard to miss lettering. I hate when gun makers do that.

>>
>>28092654
i don't think so personally. I would replace the sights with XS big dots or whatever your personal preference is on a standard shield. Some guys whack it to replacing the trigger with an APEX kit, some don't care.
>>
>>28092654
For only 50 bucks more and you get nights sights and ported? I'd go for it.

I have just a regular shield and wish I had waited for the performance center line to come out.
>>
>>28092529
I fucking love my pps. I like mag paddles and for my I point it better then any other pistol. It has less recoil (probably because of such a short barrel) then my fathers full size m&p9. It is a great gun.
>>
So torn here, I might try them both in my hand. The M&P seems like the better gun but it's also incredibly generic, not that that should matter.

I like M&P 9c or 40c as well. I can pick one of those in a local brick and mortar gun shop for $429.00 currently. Shield for $389.00, a tad small for me but SO is thinking about one.

I like the fact I can stuff the 17 round magazine from the full size into my compact pistol. Ergo the same, maintenance the same etc. I like the feel of the M&P over most of the other pistols I've shot.

These are my M&P pistols. Performance Center is sweet. The porting and extra work from S&W makes for a very good gun. Very easy to put back down on target. Great trigger. I put a APEX trigger kit and TruGlo TFO sights on my concealed carry 9c. The Performance Center Shield gets you pretty much that and porting as well. If they had a 9c Performance Center I would of gotten one.

If the SO wants a Shield I will get her a Performance Center one if I can find one.

I love everything about the PPS over the shield except the trigger. Its pretty gritty. Some people like them or at least dont mind them but when you compare it side by side to another subcompact of similar build it stands out. Not really saying its a deal breaker, or necessarily bad, just something to keep in mind.

Both guns are great solid shooters. Everything I like about the PSS (takedown, mag options, looks, back strap, paddles etc) over the shield is pretty much secondary to the guns purpose and really more of convince to me. Back when the guns had a ~200$ price difference I'd say go with the shield but now, if you like or can deal with the PPS trigger its a no brainier.
>>
>>28092848
Go shoot different guns. I like the M&P and have pretty much standardized on them. I have shoot a lot of other guns both new just out of the box and used ones. It's a very subjective thing. And having a gun that feels RIGHT in your hand may save your life.
I'm hoping the SO gets a Shield but she is looking at one of the smaller SIG SAUER 9s. If she likes she gets it. I will practice the heck out of it just in case, just like she practices with my CCP and my BUP.

Cool... now don't Scrooge on ammo. Practice Practice Practice.

Practice one hand and off hand shooting as well. Practice racking the slide one handed etc...

No matter how good the gun you get, if you don't practice it will not go so good in a crunch.

well, if you're around nothing might as well just open carry something full size
>>
I'm in the same boat, but been trying to figure out if I should go for the pps or ppq. There are absolutely no PPQs around my area to get my hands on and see how big it is, so I'm not sure if it's a good CC size?

I means rather than having a big ball of flame out of the front of your pistol you have two jets up to the right and left. I actually feel like the flash is less when firing in the dark with porting. Directly ahead over the sights it's darker. The visible overall area of the exhaust gas is smaller. Less reflection from stuff around muzzle. Stop with the

> Muh nightvision

till you shoot one yourself. I really don't feel like it's much different myself.
And in any reasonable night shooting situation I will have some illumination.

As a aside I was planning to go to local indoor range I have a good relationship with and do some testing with various ammunition. In the dark.
I was going to swap out my 9c barrel with a storm lake barrel. 3.5" vs 4.28" and video record against a grid and with a light meter with different ammunition from a bench rest. I have a non-ported 9L to compare with as well.
I'm planning to do a Box o Truth type thing.
Size of flash, color, lumens. Does a different barrel make a big difference etc.

What do you want to know? have a pps 9mm, ppq m1 9mm, ppq m2 22 and 45 ill answer best i can

sounds a little odd you're stuck between a full size and sub compact tho. have you not considered any compacts? just curious, what made you say maybe to the ppq, maybe to the pps but fuck no to the p99 compact?
>>
>>28093332
Haven't really looked at the p99 compact, I've checked the p99 out a little but have only read that the ppq is an upgrade to it. I have an LC9S right now and my wife wants it, so I'm trying to get something new to carry, and I would really like more ammo available without having to reload. Obviously that can be an issue for a CC gun.

I held a VP9 when they first came out and it felt amazing, but I hate standard american mag releases, so ppq came up and ended up sounding like a better option anyhow.

going to post this then go check out some info on the p99 compact.

PPS, Shield, G43.

I have a PPS and fucking love it.
>>
>>28093411
for 'CC feel' purposes, the VP9 is the same as the PPQ.

> I would really like more ammo available without having to reload. Obviously that can be an issue for a CC gun
not sure i follow. any thing that feeds though my 9mm's, feeds through all my 9mm's

also I'm just using the p99 compact as an example cause of the thread. plenty on companies make fine 9mm compacts, like the SR9c (since you mentioned you have a LC9 and all)
>>
>>28093119
Don't see this advice often enough. Too many people carry without any real practice and likely would be dead before they got the gun out of the holster.
Practice draw from concealment.
Draw from concealment sitting down, standing up, from one knee etc. Draw and put sights on a target. Dry fire regularly.
>>
>>28093119
>>28093532

Will do, the total I budgeted is $500 so if I walk out of the store with a $400 gun I'll also have $100 of 9mm to play with this weekend.
>>
>>28092750
It comes with fiber sights, not night sights
>>
>>28093516

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but I think he just meant he wanted greater mag capacity
>>
>>28094038
No you're reading it right, that's what I meant. 7+1 doesn't feel like enough to me and I'd like 10 at the least.

>>28093516
I guess I'm just not sure what I want any more, there's so many options and once I pick one I start to overthink it.

Thoughts on pic related?

I'm an impoverished college student, so I like that it's under $300 at my local Bi-Mart
>>
>>28094459
Is that a real can? If so, that's like $800 to suppress a $200 gun
>>
>>28094396
No local rentals, I'll go check out what the local shops have again with an open mind. Thanks for the nudge in the hopefully right direction.

>>
>>28094528
Not terrible. Couple cuts above Taurus maybe.

My biggest problem is with .380 ACP. 9mm gives you a lot of options. If $300 is your cap, look at a trayvon special or maybe a ruger LC9
