Got my trail gun, /k/. Ruger GP100 match champion with a 4" barrel. What flavor of .357 should I keep it loaded with?

Hallow points lad, hollow points.

What kind of varmints are you concerned about? Hard cast bullets if black bear, Gold Dots for all others IMO.

On hikes, mainly black bear & bandits in the woods. I like the idea of hard cast, but hollow points are tried and true...
I always liked the 125 grain .357s. Really loud, and not too much recoil. They're very flat shooting out to bout 125 yards.
Failing that, 158 grain lead semi wadcutters, hard cast.

Hollow points are designed to expand and stop. If vs bear, you want hard cast for maximum punch through all their muscle and bone.

Was recommended also Buffalo Bore Hard cast. Specs sound adequate.

Raspberry. Or maybe mint.

Strawberry lube for zap carry.

I shot my Ruger with .454 casull and it went right through a piece of driftwood, they were 300 grain Hornady XTP Mags "hollow points". I agree 100% with what you said but it was weird when it went through and I was about 25 yards away.
I'm going to be getting a GP100 six inch barrel soon. It's my first handgun. Just how bad is the recoil? Would you say for a first time shooter, shooting .38's, it wouldn't be any trouble at all?

Mine is heavy enough that .38 was light & quiet. Cheaper to train with too.

Sane thing I carry in my .357 when I go innawoods. Buffalo bore.
