If you don't care about aftermarket, I'd second >>28079559 and suggest looking at a Maverick 88. It's basically a 500 with either parts or labor (or both, I forget) made in Mexico for a cheaper budget. It's still a Mossberg, "Maverick 88" is the name of the series, not the company. Wayyyyyy fewer aftermarket options though.

Yeah, that's the only thing, I'm looking to get a smaller shotgun (preferably pistol grip) that has a lot of opportunities to mod. The 500 seemed like good bet but I really hadn't heard much about them.

why pistol grip? I find they suck alot for almost everything (as my personal opinion) i like having a normal stock, or even a grip/stock works great and they still arnt too bulky or hard to maneuver.

its almost less manuverable in tight places because of how you need to hold it from the hip. I think looking down sights will always be better. folding or collapsible is nice for storing in small areas. Regular stock vs pistolgrip stock... eh personal preferance just go hold one and see how you like it. If i had money to waste on somthing pointless i would build this.
