Do you think Spetznatz is overrated?
>>

They're ruthless, which makes them good enough for what they're expected to do

Possibly. They tend to be some pretty scary dudes in real life.

Spetsnaz literally just means Special Forces. There are GRU Spetsnaz, FSB Spetsnaz, Police Spetsnaz, etc. Who are you talking about?

Which "Spetznaz"? There are like 30 of them, not counting special police units.
>>
If anything they are underrated.
>Western war fighting doctrine
>Try to win the hearts and minds of the local population, diplomacy, try to negotiate and harter, waste endless man-hours and an unimaginable amount of money trying to get your enemy to see things your way, cant fire at the enemy unless you are fired upon first, cant fire on mosques, ect.... The list goes on and on

>Russian war fighting doctrine
Kill and bomb anything that gives you even one molecule of resistance without hesitation or mercy
This is how you win wars. This is why the US has not won a war since Nam. We try to fight these stupid politically correct, dont want to hirt the enemy's feelings wars. The only winnable war, is total war. Civilians be damned. Burn em all.

This.

Spetnaz will handle the bad guys, and most of the good guys too. Just look at that hostage situation not too long ago. They pumped in an experimental sleeping gas that killed some people who breathed too high concentrations, and then swept and cleared the entire building in like 30 seconds.

They had every hostage rigged with explosives, they knew what they were doing and were more than willing to die for their cause. Any direct action would have resulted in 100% casualties. Yeah, we should try to be more like the Russians.

Chechnya also illustrated this point well.
>>
>>28079542
That's because russia didn't expect america to be training goat farmers and arming them with stinger missiles, and Chechnya was bad for russia because they were going against people armed with the same exact weapons they had, using mainly conscripts, shortly after the fucking soviet union collapsed, doesn't help that at that time corruption was rampant in the military cause salaries weren't getting paid

>zero taliban activity because marines are crawling all over everywhere
>that government is still there. Its really shitty, but its there.

I should know, my company carried the ballot boxes to Kabul after posting election security. The locals were laughing at the talibans propaganda posters because we scared em off.

Just sayin, we were just grunts and we set up the first peaceful transfer of power the country has had since the russians puppet commie government collapsed in the 80's.

This is also true. Doesnt change the fact that spetznaz has a loooooooong LOOOOOOSING streak. Okay, so tell me about these super double secret handshake campaigns then. Links? Sources?
(No hints that something happened, im talking proof)
Im not being combative here, I legitimately wanna learn more cuz I always felt spetznaz is the most poorly utilized decent fighting force around.
>>
>>28080232

There isn't going to any information on stuff like that. It's just no something that they would make public, whether it is secret or not. Does the U.S. release the details of everything the SEALs do? Or Delta Force? Sure, every now and then they'll do something that makes the news, or some idiot will write a book that he's not supposed to, but in general there is no way to know what they're up to.
>>
>>28080325
Well im no asshole, I am willing to revise my opinions when proof is presented that my current stance is wrong, but unless anyone can post something contrary, I maintain that the spetznaz are a skilled but poorly used fighting force hampered by thier incompetent government.
>>
>>28079266
The problem wasnt with the actual operation, but with not telling EMS what the gas was. The treatment the people received was shit tier as a result and many died.
>>
>>28080573
>incompetent government.

Posted as Russia continues to kekhold any US geopolitcal actions
>>
>>28080232
Again, Spetsnaz isn't one specific group. It's a term that means special forces. Lots of "groups" are Spetsnaz as in special forces because that is what the fucking word means.

Also, Russia doesn't talk about their "secret" operations as much as the US does. Not to mention that it's always specific, once in a blue moon related information.
How about all that shit that Delta pulls on a daily basis? You have any hard proof, "links and sources" other than a little here and there?
>>
>>28080573
There was that one time terrorists kidnapped some russian diplomats so spetsnaz kidnapped their families, killed one, mailed body parts to the terrorists saying they're whole family is next if they don't release the diplomats they hadn't killed. >>28080573
>>
>>28080651
That was Alpha Group
>Following the standard Soviet policy of no negotiations with terrorists, some of the hostages taken by Alpha Group were dismembered, and their body parts sent to the militants. The warning was clear: more would follow unless the remaining hostages were released immediately.

>>28079542
>>US Military takes 2,300 dead during a 14 year long campaign in Afghanistan
>>Soviet Union takes 14,000 dead during a 10 year campaign
taking on insurgents more than twice your number across the whole country tends to do that. hell the Panksir Valley the Soviets had a hell of a time pacificating was completely silent when the US led coalition were there.
>>28079779
>This is true, and it explains perfectly how they LOST, and why the whole world laughed at them for LOSING.
>>russia installs puppet government in kabul
>Rekt
nice lack of history. that puppet government had the muj on the run on their own. Only when the Soviet Union collapsed and the money dried up that the Afghan government itself collapsed too. And unfortunately this is whats gonna happen most likely to the current government too once the US pulls out ever- and that is even with oodles of funding, so yeah cant say either one is better than the other one really.
>I should know, my company carried the ballot boxes to Kabul after posting election security. The locals were laughing at the talibans propaganda posters because we scared em off.

Where are you getting this -4% GDP number from? The only citations I can find for it reference the website tradingeconomics, but they say that their own source is the world bank, even though their numbers don't match up with the world bank data.
