The greatest handgun ever made. The Colt Single Action Army. Six bullets. More than enough to kill anything that moves.

And yet even in that basic range shooting it was considered too unreliable to move on.

it'll either be this or the beretta again
>>
>>28071395
I bet it's going to be a Colt gun, so that the government can bail out Colt from bankruptcy yet again.
>>
>>28074978
I thought that the point of the trials was to open it up to companies who are not Berretta. By the way, what are advantages to us civvies if the gov't picks up a new weapon? Only promise of eventual surplus or does it change anything else?

It wont be Beretta again.

The whole point of the XM17 project is to find a replacement for the "Updated" 92 that Beretta tried to pawn off on the US military.
The US military needs a closed slide semiautomatic pistol, hammer fired preffered. It needs to be easily able to adapt to needs such as raised sights, threaded barrels, universal rail accessories, etc. It also should have a frame mounted safety since soldiers are the bottom of the bucket as far as intelligence goes.

Berettas updated 92 is just an old pickup with a body kit.
>>
>>28075022
you don't want an older military m9, it'll be beat to shit. youre better off getting a regular 92fs for new.
Maybe some surplus depending on what they pick but theyre probably going to be twice as expensive because "military exclusive special custom order" crap
>>
>>28075022
It could affect the ammunition standards a bit which means a shit load of surplus military ammo will hit the shelves.

It could mean that parts for military handguns become dirt cheap.

Whatever handgun they choose will end up becoming cheaper to civilians too as it begins to get mass produced.
>>
>>28075154
dont forget caliber conversion and slide length adjustments. read the RFP people. This is why im saying the 320 is the winrar
>>
>>28075326
Oh I have BIG faith it will be a Sig. I dont know if it will be the 320 exactly
>>
Is it just me or is the Five-seveN too expensive to consider realistically? Even if Mk2 surpasses the other weapons it's still an expensive handgun and uses special snowflake ammo.
>>
>>28075154
Beretta have a new striker fired gun and I believe the Px4 meets the requirements anyway. They can submit 2 models to the test, so I'm pretty sure they'll put both of those in.
>>
>>28071395
>>28071811
>>28071956

>requirement: frame mounted safety

2nd Grade reading level required...
>>
>>28075021
Well, the Rail Gun does meet the technical requirements of having modular grips, magazine options, a rail, and is accurate enough.

Also, once the contract is up, they can source replacement parts from just about anyone since everyone and their mother makes a 1911.
>>
>>28071395

My bet is an M&P. It would be even cooler if companies crank out new designs to compete. No matter what it is it will be cool to have a new super iconic pistol.
>>
>>28075021
>>28075488
Could we be seeing a double-stack, 9mm 1911 in that case?
>>
>>28075599

I would love to, and these people suggest the Detonics 1911 thing that I guess got turned to a striker fired gun when STI touched it.

http://bearingarms.com/top-three-contenders-u-s-militarys-xm17-modular-handgun-system-contract/

But I don't think either company has the manufacturing capability for military guns. But it would be great if a double stack 1911 makes it, too few companies make one and if the military adopted it I would hope more companies would offer one.
>>
>>28075632
I feel like with all the money they would get tossed for the contract, they would be able to beef up their production capabilities.
>>
>>28075751

Maybe, but idk if Detonics and STI could do mass production even with money. Their guns are more of hand fitted than mass produced, but on the other hand STI does have sub 1000 dollar guns so maybe they could. I sure hope so.
>>
>>28071458

US Military weapons must be made in the US. CZ and H&K are both out

>>

Neither company would meet the size and facility requirements of a military contract. It took LMT years to be certified because they are so "small"

In fact very few companies are large enough to bid on military contracts.

FNH, Colt, S&W, Sig, and Ruger are just about the only game at the moment. Unless an established contractor branches out, like a Daniel Defense, or a Knights Armament
>>
>>28075839
You're right because Hk has never had a us military contract before.
>>
Why not a USPc or regular USP?
>>
>>28075826
>>28075889
In that case, why not buy the rights from Detonics/STI and have a bigger company like Colt or FN produce it? It would make it cheaper and easier to produce. Only thing I woud be worried about would be quality.
>>
>>28072804
Woe. You can just push the hammer while it's cocked to decock it.

CZ p-07 if it were up to me. Especially now that they'll allow hollowpoint ammo.

Doesn't decock it, just puts it in single action with a long pull, while appearing to be in double action.
