Would k rather use an AR or an AK for the following shtf situations?

My friend says AK due to ammo stockpiling ease, simplicity of design, large caliber round and the fact that most fights would be inside of 400m

I have both a DD M4V7 and an ~03 Post Ban Century SAR1. If I really have to go "inna woods" I'm taking my SAR. I've spent better than 8 years now in the SOF community and dragged a lot of different guns around. I love my DD, but the AK has the ruggedness and the 30 cal punch. If you've never fired through brush/wood/cover, you wouldn't know how many different directions the 5.56 starts going once it's hit something, even tree limbs. That 30cal slug out of an AK holds a tighter group when shooting "through" shit.
I'd really like to have an original AKS milled underfolder. Coolest gun I've ever fired. But that's just like my opinion man.

AR for this seeing as i likely wont be dragging it around innawoods and the extra accuracy would be nice.

AK for this one as you don't know how long you might have to survive with no maintenance on your weapon and though the AR is no doubt a reliable weapon, I'd trust the AK to deal with whatever was thrown at it. I also think the larger round would be nice for hunting.

With a rifled slug barrel you could max out your range. But then you're squeezing your gauge into a particular niche. Unless you tote multiple barrels. 870's/500's are pretty quick easy swaps

Nigger, AR or AK has nothing to do with ammo. You can have a dozen 556 and 308 AKs, and a dozen ARs in 545 and 762x39.

I really like mine. The magwell solves the problem with AK mags requiring relatively precise alignment by moving that responsibility from every mag to just the gun. It's literally an improved AK - even with a 74 and 545 in the mags.

No. Messed around with a K2 when I was in Korea, and was highly unimpressed with the fit and finish of the thing. It felt closer to an AK in pedigree.
Idk, maybe the new production ones that aren't beat to shit by conscripts are a little better, but I doubt it.

An AR. I have spare parts lying around my house everywhere and I'm comfortable using and maintaining it. I'm sure the AK can take slightly more abuse but when it does malfunction, and it will, I'll feel like a monkey trying to fuck a football when I try to fix it.

In America ar is unmatched best choice. Spare parts everywhere literally break down like lego the replacement of parts even barrel are breeze. Ammo stockpile 5.56 ar is actually better choice because you can stockpile more of it due to lower weight and volume 5.56 take up unlike 7.62x39.
Ar DOESN'T HAVE TO BE CLEANED FREQUENTLY. Look up filthy 14 just ensure bcg is lubed or just squirt little motor oil every 2k rounds or so. I recommend oiled patch down bore at end of day if rifle was fired for protection aganist rusting. The bolt inside ar if is quality made will last past 10k rounds guaranteed no problem. Barrels go past 10k before they even start to shoot like ak, accuracy wise.
Ak accuracy suffer majority due to low quality ammo available with powder charge varying the worse.
Ar have much more range than ak.
Realistic cutoff for range for stock ak is around 300yds and 600yds for stock ar (had m4gery in mind when i say that)
7.62x39 does indeed have far superior barrier blind properties aganist 55gr 5.56ammo but if you are doing it right you will be killing people before they even get behind barriers. Once 5.56 ammo change to say m855 or m855a1 or perhaps other longer distance round that also have bsrrier blind properties such like ones that use 77gr otm bullet.
Ar-15 is really best choice regardless purpose.
But outside of your question my main rifle is actually a battlerifle, a L1A1.

I have 36 kills confirmed by the US DoD, how many do you have sweetheart? Some of the posters on /k/ have real life combat experience. Before you children swamped us 5 or 6 years ago we had a dozen actual operators here, men much more skilled than me. You drove them away with posts like that...happy?
