It would have to overcome the United States' near impossible adoption standards and even then it would have to prove to be not just equal to, but better than the M4.
For example, the SCAR. While it was tested, it wasn't adopted because they saw that it was just as good as the M4 and therefore not worth the money to replace.
There isn't anything on the market at the moment that would be that great of an improvement over the M4 currently that would be worth the investment.

The M4 works perfectly well and the US Military already knows how to use it. Switching to a drastically different weapon would cost ungodly amounts of money to put the weapon through testing, initial issue with SF forces for further testing, buying enough to re-arm the military, training every single troop on how to use, clean and care for the new weapon and figure out what the fuck to do with all our M4s and M16s.
To replace a weapon that doesn't need to be replaced any time soon.
