Someone recommend a Milsurp coat that DOESNT suck pls

Was gonna buy one of pic related (Czech Parka) until I realized the site i was looking at wont have any for at least a month. Im told the American M65 field jackets were good in the day, now you can only get shitty knockoffs tho

What should I get, /k/?
>>
>>28058593
The same company who made M65 for the government on contract still makes them today. They also make a bunch of flight jackets. Alpha Industries, although it'll set you back a few hundred dollary doos, I'm happy with mine.

Does it actually have to be milsurp? Or do you just need a winter coat?

You could get one of the British or Flecktarn parkas off N.E. I suppose. Or go to the store and buy a civilian coat like a normal person. There are plenty of good "military style" coats since milsurp became fashionable after WWI. Hell, the Peacoat is based on the Naval officer coat. I got a pretty sweet one from Old Navy for like 40 bucks last month.

>>28058646
Sorry anon, it's worth it if you're fortunate enough to afford it.
>>
>>28058803
except you know, if you're gunna buy a 300 dollar coat, don't buy a piece of crap like a m-65
>>
>>28058803
Im sure its quite nice but im literally looking at a $19 flecktharn coat right now. I actually make 6 figures just like everyone else on 4chan...

Other anons, im considering both british MTP and flecktharn jacket. Which do you think will be warmer?

It doesnt HAVE to be milsurp, just quality. I buy industrial tools for my home shop for instance, often cheaper used than consumer grade new shit and they literally never wear out, and are often easier/smoother/more efficient to use.

Same thought process applies to my outdoors beater jacket im hoping to buy
>>
>>28058834
I didn't know I was limited to one coat, sorry you don't dig my style skeletor. You cadpat is pretty fugly to be honest family.

OP, I'm up in Binghamton, NY and it gets damn cold. Got pic related, it's wunderbar. 36 bucks and 2 years in it's still going strong. Lining comes separate, but you button it in within 10 minutes.
Deep warm pockets, nice hood, and water resistant exterior, gotta recomment.
>inb4 spambot
no seriously, get it. It's great.
>>
>>28058919
WHAT PIC? the pic in the OP? Sounds awesome thank you /k/omrade
>>
>>28058593
Well it depends what you're looking for man. I got one of those Czech parkas from ivan last year and it's warm as shit. I recommend trying harder to hunt one down if warmth is your primary objective.

all the alpha industries stuff is pretty mediocre though. I have one of their bomber jackets and its a waste of money.
if you got 300 dollars buy a patagonia, outdoor research, north face, or even arcteryx jacket.
youre in technical apparel at that point.
>>
>>28058945
OP here, first objective is durability, second is warmth. Thanks, is he good to deal with?

The Czech parka is fine for Midwestern weather, but the zipper is somewhat of a pain to use.
>>
Get an original M65 or M51 field coat, you really can't go wrong. Pretty warm and durable as hell. They can be had cheap (sub $60) if you know where to look and aren't fat.
>>
>>28058966
Yes, you're damn right about everything, it's sentimental to me though since I had one many years ago. It sucks in rain, it's heavy and bulky, and cleaning crap off of it is a pain. I just got my arcteryx bag, and now I really want the jacket.
>>
>>28058967
It seems to me that the first time I ordered something from the kommando store, it took a while to get my shipment - maybe 2 weeks. But that was when they were blowing up with a ton of orders. There were threads about the drawings and writing on the boxes people were receiving. It seems like things have become more streamlined at Nugget Enterprises and I've ordered stuff a couple times since then and it's come quicker.

Anyway. I haven't worn the coat a ton, but the outer layer is almost like a canvas, so I imagine that it'll be pretty durable. I should add that I live in Ohio and it usually goes down to about 20 degrees F, so that's how I'm judging "warm as shit".

Gorka.

Always gorka.

God damn it.
Anyone know where I can get a greatcoat or similar?
>>
>>28059363
They're on sportsmansguide as well. However, I will say that I like nugget enterprises' descriptions of sizing. Most surplus websites dumb it down and offer Small, Medium, etc. Ivan lists the sizes as they are marked on the clothing, which are often much more detailed.
>>
>>28058621
There's a British manufacturer who makes M65's just as well for like 50.
>>28058593
Czech Parka is trash
The Austrian M65 clone is dope, Kommando Store, Varusteleka, and most places carry em.

Lurking for jackets.
>>
>>28059590
Why do you say it's trash?
>>
>>28059590
I have both. The Czech is warmer with the liner, definitely feels like a heavy winter coat. Haven't been through a Boston winter with it yet, but I'm sure it will hold up fine.
The Austrian M65 is great too, easy to take on and off, and generally more sporty feeling. I feel like I could play a game of baseball in it, while the liner makes that difficult on the czech one.
That being said, it doesn't come with a liner which makes it a three season coat in Boston, dunno, depends on where you live.
>>
>>28058593
Aint pic related the parka Ed Harris' character wore in Enemy at the Gates?
>>
>>28059781
It's obviously not, but if your autistic ass wants to believe it is, more power to you.
>>
>>28059789
Gee, the word autistic is used wayyyy too inflationary in here...
>>
>>28059810
Typing like you're autistic isn't helping your case.
>>
Invest in a fishtail parka. They're under $200 online for a surplus one,
With hood and liner. I got mine when I was a Mod in highschool, and still have it. It's like wearing a sleeping bag.
>>
Does it rain much/at all where you live? If so, eliminate basically all milsurp, since most of it is cotton based and performs very badly when wet. Look into milsurp Goretex based stuff like that Austrian M65 that was all over the place a few years back. The fit is kind of enormous on those though. I'm swimming in mine. Normal M65 is cotton and not so great, and is in fact, not even that warm unless you use a liner (same with the Austrian M65 I talked about earlier). These jackets weren't really meant for true winter weather.
>>
>>28059866
This guy gets it. If you're not prepared to embrace the suck then you should get a performance jacket instead.
>>
>>28059938
>>28059866
Yeah that's true.

I'm the guy who said he got the czech parka from ivan. if it's dry outside and just cold, i'll use the parka. If it's wet, or I'm actually camping or doing something where weight/size matters, then i'm going to use a different jacket that's lighter/more packable/waterproof.

Granted, I'm not as worried about damaging a $35 surplus coat as I am about damaging a $200 arc'teryx shell, so it's all about weighing your options for any given situation.
>>
>>28060208
The Arc'teryx should have warranties and shit right? Not that I'd know about it, since I'm too poor.
>>
>>28058593

I bought m65 and returned it the next day. I went and ordered goretex (for rainy/cold wet weather)

They are out of woodland camo in my size, but I might get a desert camo.

>>
>>28058593
I got that jacket for $50 at my army surplus store, it's super nice in the winter
I took the belt off and I use that as my AK sling now
>>
>>28058593
If younjust want a warm jacket for really cold winters, get a NVA winterjacket. You should consider thoough that these are european sizes, so if youre american, you probably have to buy bigger sizes than you normaly would. Without shipment they go for aroound 35 EUR

Else get a greatcoat. Wool is heavy, but it is really warm, and will probably hold relatively long. But you can be sure that bigger sizes will again be costly. WIthout shipment they gor for around 100 EUR.

Else look elsewhere for Czech Parka, theyre really good.

Soviet afghan issue coats are sturdy as fuck

Sizings done for having heaps of underclothes thou'

Flecktarn parka's are pretty good, just heavy fabric, so would need a sweater under for cold
