What is the diameter of the business end of a 12 gauge no choke bore?
>>
>>28056107
Let's think for a moment. A choke is essentially the end of the barrel tightening. The intent is to make the pellets scatter less. A slug would either tear that shit out of the barrel or get stuck inside the barrel. I have no clue which, but I'd bet on the former.
>>

>>
>>28056596
Internet googling says one barrel is improved and one barrel is modified.

But they sell it in a package deal with slugs, so seems like you can either way.
>>
>>28056715
Internet also said that about the newer JW 2000 I bought, checked both barrels, neither have any choke. Might be different with the Outlaw since it's shorter, but I wouldn't see why. The only real difference a choke makes is in 20 inch+ barrels with bird shot.
>>
>>28056735
Also forgot to say the manual said the same. Well I'm off for the night.
>>
>>28056206
This is true, you fucking morons. Rifled slugs can be shot out of any choke that is modified or larger.

Mind you, extended use with a tight choke will do damage, but one or two won't really matter with soft lead.

Questions that don't deserve their own thread. Post here if you have a simple question that doesn't warrant a full discussion, just a simple answer.

>10mm for cc?
CC is more about what gun you're comfortable carrying. If you can find one in 10mm that you're comfortable carrying, then sure. I personally cc a single-stack compact .380, but that's because it needs to not print in a fitted suit. If I could get away with cc-ing my full-size 9mm, I would.
>>
My new k98 doesn't seem to have a finish, or it at least doesn't appear to be shiny like it has a finish (don't know much about wooden rifles). Would it be better to refinish it with something like boiled linseed oil or should I just leave it alone?
>>
I carried a Glock 29 for a while.
A Glock 29 is their compact 10mm and is identical in dimension and weight to the Glock 30 which is their .45 compact, double stack.
Generally, the 10mm is going to be in a .45 frame because it fits and they don't have to make a new frame. This was also why the .40 was invented, because it would fit in a 9mm frame.

For me the Glock 29/30 was too thick and heavy to be carried comfortably on a regular basis but there are plenty of folks out there that do it. The thing with 10mm also is it is kind of overkill for 2 legged threats and a bit anemic for 4 legged threats. Commercial loads available at your LGS if they have them will also be watered down from max pressures and it's expensive. If you're into handloading or order all your ammo from Buffalo bore etc.. maybe it's a different story for you.

I would advice against 10mm for your daily carry. Had one, sold it.

Nah, I'm an analyst (spreadsheet wizard, lvl 60) in pharmaceutical marketing. I don't carry because of my line of work, although there are the occasional crazies that show up to protest.

I need it to not print because firearms aren't allowed on company property.

>>28062185
I have a Bersa Thunder 380, which is basically a clone of that gun.
Things you need to know:
1. I hate you, I want one really bad. Take good care of it.
2. People will talk shit about the slide-mounted safety, just like they do about the 92fs. Ignore them. You can flick the safety off with your thumb, without coming off the grip, and while drawing from a holster.
3. Since you said your experience is with plastic strikers: the safety is also a decocker. Engage the safety to decock the hammer. Don't try to thumb down the hammer when you want to decock it. Decocker exists for a reason.
4. If you plan on carrying it, carry with one in the chamber, safety on. This means hammer down, since the safety also decocks, but it's a DA/SA, so if you need to use it, flip the safety off and it's in DA mode and ready to go.
>>
>>28062329

Is there any risk in dry-firing or decocking and letting the hammer slam down?

Anything with regards to ammo? I've heard it can be picky, especially when it comes to jhp

Plus these were just 50€ a piece, compared to whooping 125€ per single mag, that was my only local offer.

Should I try to return these (I ordered 'em from Germany), or try to cut & weld them into the proper shape? There seems to be plenty of forum posts & YT videos of people modding these M14 mags into Vepr or M77 mags.

QTDDTOT thread? Alright i'll bite.

What's some good stuff to look out for when gun shopping? I don't mean just looking for particular guns i mean things in the gun itself or with the store clerk that should be a red flag.

I'm an inexperienced shopper and i'd also like a quick description of how a smooth process should be and what i should expect in paper work or fee's.
>>
>>28065658
>look out for when gun shopping
If it's used and you don't know how to tell if it's shit, it's shit. Research the gun extensively.
>store clerk
Watch out for shills, like myself. If you were asking me for gun suggestions I would recommend HK and CZ products until the sun died.
>paper work or fee's
https://www.atf.gov/file/61446/download Processing takes longer if you have a common name. If you're buying it online you have to have it shipped to an FFL, an pay them a fee. Shipping to an FFL isn't something you do without calling them and letting them know first. Do not place the order before you've spoken to the FFL.

If you're confused about anything just ask people working in gun stores. They'll help you out.
>>
>>28065789
Is there red flags about customer service i should look out for? Like refusing me to see or look at certain aspects of a fire arm.

If i buy online do i still fill out these ATF forms or only if i buy in a shop?
>>

>>
>>28065350
>I blame the yank online stores who don't want to ship any of their shit to EU.
they are generally prevented by law to ship outside the US. get fucked off your entitled high horse.
>>
>>28065900
Lots of people are going to be a bitch about showing you everything about the gun in online sales, but if they won't let you check it out in person something is wrong with it. This still only applies to used shit. If it's new and they don't want you touching it that might just be store policy. That being said, not all new guns are quality. Certain brands just make garbage, like Century Arms and Taurus. Other companies have recently turned to shit, and if you buy their stuff you should get it before that happened, like Remington 8 years ago. Do your research before you buy anything, of course.

You can't escape the forms unless you buy black powder firearms or pre-1899 firearms.
>>
>>28065900
You'll have to do the form in shop for online transfers, from what I know.
>if you can't pass, there's a reason for it.
>>
>>28065963
>You can't escape the forms unless you buy black powder firearms or pre-1899 firearms.

Not trying to escape the forms, i'm just wondering when and where i'd need to handle them in the transaction. Simply trying to be more informed of the process.

Pawn shops a decent option or are they generally trash?

>>28065967

Any upgrades I should get. Looking at 16lbs hammer springs already.

I want to get a hardshell jacket and I decided to go with a LEAF Alpha or Alpha LT. Im unsure of the color. CROCODILE or GRAY? Type of environment I oper8 in is pic related.
>>
>>28075185
Solid colors are bad for camo and generally you want to match the color of the underbrush not the canopy.
>>
>>28075230
Obviously, the hardshell is only for bad weather. Id use a BDU when its normal/good weather. I want to be able to use the jacket in public aswell, so I wouldn't like the multicam ones that much (sadly no OD or custom print available)..

The environment I live near are the (german) alps, in the summer its lush green, in autumn its yellow/brown and in winter its obviously snowy.

Pick one and only one.

Gerber makes overpriced gear for the quality you get from them. The only thing I'd consider buying from them would be a large fixed blade for splitting wood or one of those camp axes, but even those are made by Fiskar I think. Or maybe it's the other way around

Dumb question but, what's the legal definition of a suppressor?
>>
>>28075623
Suppressors —this includes any portable device designed to muffle or disguise the report of a portable firearm. This category does not include non-portable devices, such as sound traps used by gunsmiths in their shops which are large and usually bolted to the floor.
>>
>>28075384
I was going towards gray aswell, since there are loads of rock faces and walls without any vegetation around here on the 2000m+ regions. Also because gray would blend in a bit better in a stone/snow mix in winter..
>>
>>28075647
Blarg, sounds like a grey area the way I read that. Cause if you had the parts they might still get ya. Shit even if you had an oil filter they might try to get ya.
>>
>>28075671
Heres a more complete definition

For the purposes of the National Firearms Act the term Silencer is defined in 18 U.S.C. § 921(a)(24)

The term “Firearm Silencer” or “Firearm Muffler” means any device for silencing, muffling, or diminishing the report of a portable firearm, including any combination of parts, designed or redesigned, and intended for the use in assembling or fabricating a firearm silencer or firearm muffler, any part intended only for use in such assembly or fabrication.

I think theres some resources on the site caled 762X54r about cosmoline.

Purely from a solvent standpoint, it seems like isopropyl shouldn't damage the metal surfaces, and it is an excellent solvent, especially if its ~90% pure (thats 180 proof)

it you're worried, i beleive there are a number of degreasers online for cosmoline.

Thats all I got. Let me know what you find

If the grips are made of any sort of plastic, esp rubber, don't use isoprpyl - it can caus them to swell.

and keep it away from the wood, it will likely damage the finish (depending on what specifically the finish is)

Yugo grenade launcher is 5.5"

My shotgun has a 3" chamber, but 3" shells hurt my shoulder something fierce.

Would a 2 3/4" shell be nicer on my shoulder?

>>28079043
Yes, significantly.
It would also be nicer on whatever you're shooting.

>>28079077
Yeah, I have 2 3/4 snap caps, and the break action breaks just fine with them.

I have to bend the gun over my knee to break it with the 3" shells in it.

And yes, it is a 3" chamber.

Got a friend who is new to shooting, and is interested in getting a handgun for fun, etc. He's shot a 1911 in .45, and a revolver in .38 SPL, as well as a few rifles, but doesn't want to deal with the recoil of something like .45. What the hell should I recommend that wouldn't be a shit gun? I'm leaning definitely semi-auto, but I know approximately fuckall about .32 or .25 or .380, other than they're weak. Are they fun? Are there good guns in those calibers for people with normal sized hands?
>>
>>28081155

>>28081155
Pretty much this >>28081160 desu.
.25 .32 or .380 ACP are only for backup pistols and women.
>>
>>28081160
I feel like that might be on the high end of things for him. I've got nothing against 9, but I hate to recommend that if he thought that .38 and .45 were too much. 9mm in a lightweight frame has about the same recoil as a full size 1911.
>>
>>28081225
>>28081160
Well, that's two votes. Maybe he can borrow or rent one and see how he likes it.

Thanks.
>>
>>28081245

I have a metal 9mm so I don't get shit for recoil
>>
>>28081245

>>28081284

>>
>>28081284

Subcompact and 9mm defensive loads:

With a shorter barrel, often < 4" barrels, do you have to be more selective when choosing defensive loads? Maybe the 147gr won't expand as reliably as a 124?

Do I have to buy manufacturer specific magazines for my rifle or do they all generally fit on most guns?

Like would I HAVE to buy S&W magazines or would armalite brand magazines fit on it just fine?
I'm very new.
>>
>>28085665
I only own a Mosin and an SKS, so there is a very good chance that I'm wrong, but I would imagine that, at least for rifles that are part of the same platform, the only thing that matters for magazine compatibility is what caliber it holds.

you need the correct model magazine for your gun, it only matters who makes it insofar as they make it in spec. promag for instance has a reputation of making horrible after market mags.
