My steyr s9a1 won't eject an unfired bullet or car without the mag in and will not chamber a round if I open the slide and drop the round into the chamber.

Different extractor design... Running over a cartridge probably isn't the best for normal spring type extractor... Slide the cartridge up the breech face and under the extractor before releasing the slide.

Most pistols are controlled feeding. Meaning they're not push-fed like rifles and the extractor doesn't hop the rim every time. They generally slide the cartridge up under the extractor during feeding.
Instead of drop-loading like you're trying, just load from a mag.

Dunno about extracting without a mag tho, that sounds like an issue.
Some guns have an extractor that allow you to press it open manually to put it into battery on a drop-loaded round, but I don't know if Steyrs do.

That's what I don't understand. I even put on a Mechanix glove to really grab the butch and rack it and it won't pop them without the mag in there.
U have tried 115gr gold dots, two different grains of federal hst, even god damn winchester pdx and Hornady critical defense won't extract but it shoots fine.
