French anon here, I need your advice /k/;
SKS or MAS 49?
Why should I buy an SKS over a MAS 49?
>>
>>27930844
Get the MAS 49.
>>
>Why should I buy an SKS over a MAS 49?
Cheaper ammo is what comes to mind. But if the price is not an issue then get the MAS.
>>
>>27930844
What is your financial siuation?
Have you compared prices of either caliber from where you are from?
>>
>>27930844
Why would you get commie junk when you can buy a glorious MAS
>>
>>27930844
SKS is a much cheaper weapon in France, ammo is much cheaper and much more easy to find as well.

But both choices are retarded anyway, if you went through all the bother of getting an authorization, get a superior gun such as an AR15, AK or VZ58 if you are a poorfag. Although 7,62x39 is probably getting banned at the end of the year, and so will all semi-automatic weapons that look like automatic weapons of war if the EU vote passes tomorrow.

Better get a Mini-14 or something.
>>
>>27930861
>>27930864
Ammo price is not a problem and ammo storage is restricted anyway
>>
MAS 49-56 for 7.62 ammo compatibility.

I get home in a couple hours if you'd like a side by side photo.
I have an sks and mas49/56. My 49/56 is in 308, so you'll have to factor in more expensive ammo than me, especially depending on your local ammo prices in france.
The mas is undeniably more fun per shot because it shoots a full rifle round, but not enough extra fun to justify taking 3 shots with the sks(based on usa ammo prices) vs 1 with the mas using 7.5 french ammo. 762x39 is plenty of fun being a 30cal round.
I think the sights are better on the MAS, but I do fine with either gun. The only thing I don't like is that the lowest irons setting on the MAS sights is 200m.
And should you choose to use it, the MAS also has a side rail ready to accept side-mounted optics. That's one thing you may be able to get cheaper in france vs over here in the states.
I think the mas is easier to field strip too, the sks gas tube is a little scary with that damn operating rod ready to fly off into oblivion if you turn the gas lever too far.

and here's a pic showing some sks parts, minus the stripped rifle
that left-most little rod is the one I hate so much
>>
>>27930844
Get the one that doesn't get banned.
>>
>>27930978
sounds like they both would be, as of friday
idk if that means grandfathered in, or confiscated or something
>>
>>27930933
>>27930963
I think I'll keep in mind the MAS 49 then, I will try to test shoot both at the range before making my choice but thanks for the reply.
>>27930978
We're not bongs though
>>
>>27931042
The MAS49 might not get banned, because it doesn't use a "evil" caliber and has never been automatic at all, it was semi-auto to begin with. But who knows what's going to happen with the leftards in charge.

French anon too. I recived my authorizations today, so I bought my first handgun : a L9A1 Steyr.

Why don't you buy a VZ58 insted of the sks, it's about the same price? Do you really want to shoot a larger calliber like 7.62x54R?

Pic verry related
>>
>>27930844
Mas 49, if only to rub it in American faces because they're somewhat rare here.
>>
>>27930921
...

What?
>>
>>27931327
What are the laws in France? I thought anything in a "military" caliber was illegal.
>>
>>27931411
century converted some to .308
>>
>>27930933 (You) >>27930963 (You) here
I also own a vz, and it's definitely the best rifle I've held, hands down. Take >>27931327's advice and at least handle one before you just get an sks if they're actually near the same price. The weight, comfort and built quality is absolutely top notch. And IDK how to explain it, but it just aims really well for me with the fixed stock.
>>27931475
but this guy is from france, I doubt they have century rifles there
>>
>>27931433
It's cat.B, meaning it requires autorization.
Autorization is usually delivered if you have :
>affiliation to shooting federation and regular practice (3 session/year).
>no criminal record
>no recent stay in a mental hospital
>a gun safe
And some legal stamps becuase the government has no money.
>>
>>27931523
>but this guy is from france, I doubt they have century rifles there
The army converted most of its 49/56 to NATO caliber, since the Famas came in 1978, and Sig 540s were reserved for overseas operations. They had a lot of time.

There is two common way to get guns in France : hunting licence or sport shooting licence (including ball trap licence).

Non black-powder firarms in France a classified between two species :

- Cat C firearms : which means :
> rifled bore shootgun (minimal lenght of the bore 51 cm)
> non semi-automatic rifle of all the caliber you want (exept 223rem, 7.62x39, 50 bmg). Linke Mosins, Kar98, Remignton 700 or whatever boltaction rifle.
> semi-automatic rifled or smooth bore long gun but with only 3 shoots in the magazine : it's mostly for hunting purposes
> smooth bore dual barrel long gun for hunting purpose manely

In cat C, You can buy how many ammo you want

- Cat B firearms : wich means:
> semi automatic rifle like AR15 or AK, you can have 30 ammo mag if you want to. You can't have fully auto.
> semi automatic handgun like my steyr, 30 ammo mag if you want (someone has a 30 ammo glock mag in my range). Any caliber you want 50AE, 45 acp, 500 SW... whatever you want
> non semi automatic 50 bmg rifle

In cat B, You can only buy 1000 ammo per gun per year but you can ask the administration to give you the right to buy more if you use up your quota. Note that you can reload and buy as many reloading component as you want. I know it's a bit bizarre.

You can only buy cat C gun with the hunting licence.

With the sport shooting licence :

- You can buy cat C as soon as you get your licence. The licence is pretty easy to get : you just have to enroll in a federal range and you get it by two weak as long as you are not a serious convicted fellon (like drug trafic or violences crimes).

- To buy cat B, it's more complicated but not the end of the world. You have to pass some theorical test in your range about gun knowledge. You have to shoot 3 times a year before a federal member of the sporting league, in the range you are member in, to prove you are able to shoot and safely use a firearm.
>>
>>27931433
yes it's forbidden whatsoever, I'm french too AND a jurist. The other Anon is full of shit.
His question is interesting nonetheless and valid
>>
>>27931600 continuing from

Each controlled shooting has to be seperated each other from 2 months. You have to possess a safe. Then you ask to the administration the right to posssess cat B fierarms. Note that you can only own 12 cat B firearms.
>>
>>27931603

I don't know what you are talking about, maybe cat A? But everyone in this board can check our laws at gunpolicy.org and see by himself that we can buy semi auto ar15 or handgun in France.

http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_IP-15-6110_en.htm

http://ec.europa.eu/DocsRoom/documents/13965/attachments/1/translations/en/renditions/native

(13) in Annex I to Directive 91/477/EC part II is amended as follows:
(a) point A is amended as follows:
(i) in Category A, the following points are added:
‘6. Automatic firearms which have been converted into semi-automatic firearms;
7. Semi-automatic firearms for civilian use which resemble weapons with automatic mechanisms
8. Firearms under points 1 to 7 after having been deactivated’

This law will be voted tomorrow. All automatic guns that have been converted to semi-only and all semi-automatic guns that look like automatic guns are going to be banned. Say goodbye to the AR15, Saiga, Vz58, FAL, G3...
Wanna know the best part? They will be confiscated by the police without any monetary compensation.
>>
>>27931815

Oh jeez, I should not buy an AR or so in the few days. I will wait to see what the government will do.
>>
>>27931593
good to know
now if we could just get a bunch of them imported at some point...
>>
>>27931756
The proposal
http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_IP-15-6110_en.htm
is to ban everything that looks like a gun that is full auto capable.

It might "only" be referring to AR15s and AK style rifles.. but the way it's written it could even include everything including a glock17 that looks like a glock18 ...

It's sold as a measure against the availability of guns to terrorists, but does not even address the problem of the availability of full auto AKs. (that recently even dropped in price due to the borders being non existent..)

It's not completely impossible that it will get through, to us it sounds like confiscating SUVs cause someone without a drivers license smuggled a Humvee from Irak to Paris and ran it into a crowd...
But politicians tend to vote on things they know nothing about.
>>
>>27931826
wrong, you should buy one and then immediately go on a boating trip with it
>>
>>27931844
If you go that route just buy a full auto AK in southern France ...
>>
>>27931826
Rather than wait and see, make as many people as possible aware that they are not addressing the problem and using the victims to get through legislation that has nothing to do with the terror attacks.

>AND a jurist
Then get yourself up to date ASAP, because those laws changed a few years ago, and there isn't this bullshit "military calibers" prohibited category anymore.
>>
>>27933367
Military calibers have never been banned, after WW2 you needed an authorization to buy a gun in military caliber. It is still true up to this day for the most common modern calibers. However in 2012, many outdated WW1 and WW2 calibers as well as .308 have been put out of the military caliber list, sort of, they still have some restrictions compared to civilian calibers, such as not being able to own more than 1000 rounds at once.
