Eh, surplus comes and goes. You can still find decent deals on the secondary market. Ammo is still available right now and when it dries up, its reloads and commercial steel cased. I don't think it will be as bad as the enfield or mauser situation.

Overall, for my age, I didn't get too screwed over on surplus compared to anybody just getting into guns just a few years later.
I feel like I got in on the last of the "good" suplus deals.

We live in the AR age now. From CNC'd lowers to polymer lowers, they're the new poorfag gun. Not even NY or CA have been able to ban them (thanks to the large aftermarket for rifle grips, compliance buttons, etc) and they're dirt cheap to build.

Most countries, including the United States, send their old military/police arms to be recycled into rebar. The USA would rather crush a bunch of ACOGs and PEGs. Than ship them back to the States to be sold to the general public.
If that EU bill gets through. Then even the parts kits are doomed. As all those deactivated firearms have to be melted down instead of sold as parts.

That'd still be after the chinese import ban of 92(i think)and just after the assault weapons ban, so I'm sure the prices had already gone up considerably for both of those reasons.
Take this with a grain of salt, but IIRC, people were buying sks rifles with 1000rds of chinese ammo for 80-100 or so bucks at the prime of chinese imports.
